24: Living links paper | Living Links by Claude Pearson For my Living Links paper, I have selected to interview my dad Claude Pearson II, about the civil rights movement. I chose to interview my dad because he lived through the movement so it gives me a child's eye perspective of the civil rights movement. I decided to interview my dad about the civil rights movement due to him living through it. I will explain my ten great questions. Lets begin with the first question. I asked my father, “Was there any change before the movement?“ He responded with,“Yes , the space and people with money protesting against the Vietnam War.““ Now for my second question: “What was your school like when the movement happened?” My father responded with,“The schools were becoming desegregated, before it was just white students together. For my third question I asked, “Did you experience and /or notice racism?” He responded with , “No, not really much of anything other than one boy calling another boy by a name so mainly just name calling.Let us continue on towards the next of many questions. Now we setting towards the forth question. I asked my dad another simple question, “Did you have any black friends before the movement?” He responded with a yes and said it was a old black man , who's daughter married one of his childhood friends, Joey Parsons, who came from a former segregated school into my dad’s school. Time to reach the fifth question. of this paper. I asked my dad, “Did you enjoy the change?” My father responded straightforwardly, “The change was pure excitement. The white and black students were told to interact with each other in my county school.” Continuing on with the interview paper my sixth question was one about feelings and the heart. It was, “How did you feel about the change?” He responded with, “I felt it was an exciting time full of change and intrigue. Now we are near the halfway point of this paper. Time after time after time history may bend and change. I asked my dad a simple question ,“ How old were you when you first experienced change?” He said, “I was about eight or nine years old.” Now my eighth question leads into the soil of Wilkes County. I asked my father how was your life different before the movement. My father told me in the country where he lived people were working together and it did not matter what any one's race was ; it was a community of poor people. Time to speed up to the next question of our journey.I asked my dad my ninth question, “How did you experience change personally with the civil rights movement?” My father responded, “When I was in fourth grade my school became desegregated.” My father also told me he befriended the African American kid who came to his school. Now I shall lead into my eighth. My tenth question I asked my father was a brain thumper. The question was: “What was it the 1960s like?” My father responded with, “In the sixties things were coming out more and things were becoming more socially open and equal. As a child I saw the movement very exciting and dynamic. Some of it was due to the space race and the schools becoming integrated.” Now you have read the final question of this journey. As you know for my Living Links paper I chose to interview my dad ,Claude Pearson II, about the Civil Rights Movement because he grew up during the movement and lived through it.Now for my final thoughts I think it was wise to interview my father about the Civil Rights Movement due to him seeing it with his own eyes as a child.
