 Xavier | pre- | August 30, 2010

We decided to send you to pre-school when you | turned 2 so that you could socialise with kids your age. That morning you insisted on | carrying your back | & lunch bag. Even | when you got into the | car, you had to have them | with you. Daddy & I carried you to school & you cried a little when we left you. | I shed a few tears too as I could hardly believe you are growing up so fast.

I've heard the saying "having children is like letting your heart walk around outside your body". This was never more real to us than when you became extremely ill. It all began with the change of temperature, your sinus acting up, you catching a cold & ultimately having bouts of fever. The cold was persistent and we took you to the doctor every week for 3 weeks. They prescribed so much medication; alas, none of it worked. Then one day (Oct. 7) your school called and said you had a fever; I took you back to the doctor and he sent you to do a chest xray to check for pneumonia. The results of the xray stated that everything was fine. But that weekend (Oct. 10) you looked so weak and were not your usual self that we decided to take you to Children's Hospital (you seemed to be getting worse in our eyes). They did a chest xray on you and when the doctor told us you had severe pneumonia and had to be admitted, I felt faint. It was the most terrifying moment of our lives (even your dad cried). The story didn't end there however.....

It was so difficult for your dad and I to see you suffering & hear your laboured breaths - your eyes said so much about how you felt inside. We wished we could take it all away.

Once admitted, you had to have oxygen as you could hardly breathe on your own as well as an IV as you were not eating. Then our world was shaken again when they ran a test for meningitis & it came back positive. | It didn't end there as eight days later you were worsening and your dad asked the doctors to do something. They had you do a chest xray which showed that your right lung had collapsed. They had to perform an emergency mini surgery where a small incision with a tube was placed in your chest so that the air could escape. | Xavier | Male | 10/10

You spent 3 weeks in the hospital and lost so much weight. You were prodded and poked and took it like a champ most of the time. You had no end of visitors from family to the aunties from school to our friends. and many prayers went up for you. We were relieved when they told us on October 29, that you would be released from the hospital. There are no words to explain how happy and grateful we were that you were happy, healthy and going home.

You love | to be | Let me do it mommy! | I told you I could do it

From you were much younger, you've always wanted to help with everything...whether it be sweeping, hanging clothes on the line, putting clothes in the washing machine...you want to do it all. This particular day, I placed a shirt on the ironing board and went inside for a minute. I returned to find you as busy a bee "ironing" away. | Once you finished, you expertly placed my shirt on the hanger and carried it to my room to hang it in the closet. I thought this was too cute. | I wonder if you'll still be this helpful once you hit puberty!

17/12/'10 | St. Ann's | Bay | and traveled to the parish of St. Ann. This was your third long road trip and you were very excited. We stayed at the Riu Hotel & you had a great time. | We decided to take | a family vacation

I can say without doubt that you enjoyed yourself - you played in the pool, put on a dance show and to our surprise had a lot | to eat. We love seeing you happy and can | hardly wait for the next trip.

i've been a | very good boy this year (well most of | the time) | This year you were a little more cognizant of Christmas... singing "Jingle Bells" & "We wish you a Merry Christmas" as well as pointing out Christmas trees wherever you saw them. | As usual, you had a great time unwrapping your presents. You were delighted when you saw that you received so many cars to play with.

Who you are: playful, helpful stubborn, full of life, loving, mischievous, smart, talkative, persistent, noisy, energetic, neat, demanding, independent, fiesty, dramatic | What you like to say: I wanna do it, come on nuh, see that?, oh my goodness, wait on me nuh, look here, wait a minute, let me show you something, I did it | Time is moving so fast! You've changed into a little boy in what seems to be overnight. Make no bones about it, you are a handful but we sure do love you!

THUMP! | THWACK! | BOOM! | BANG! | SLURP! | SQUEAL! | WHOOSH! | CHATTER! | ZOOM! | THUD! | CLUNK! | OUCH! | GIGGLE! | Most people call it the "terrible" 2's - but I think turbulent is a far more accurate description of your 2nd year of life - the word turbulent makes me think of violent, swift motion - moving from happy & calm to angry & agitated - motion that starts suddenly and just as suddenly dissipates - LOUD - that's you my boisterous, generally happy lil man - it never ceases to amaze me how quickly you can go from bouncing around with joy to screaming, bawling and stomping around when you can't get your way - you are my thunderstorm - quick to arrive, loud & rumbling, exploding with lightening & then suddenly gone again - you're always in motion - from the tip of your toes as you race around the house to the tip of your tongue as words spill out of your mouth - I admit sometimes I get weary not knowing how to handle you - but I wouldn't trade you for any other kid in this world - I like my unpredictable, thunderous little man & all the booms, bangs & hoops that go with him - | I love you! 17: Oh joy - the meltdowns have begun. I tell you, it's been a quite challenging phase and nothing prepared us for these little episodes. You don't like hearing the word no and sometimes fly into tantrums when you can't get your way. This particular episode occurred because you were climbing all over the living room chairs and I told you to stop. I sure do hope & pray that the turbulent 2's phase passes quickly!

This was your first sports day and the days leading up to this you practiced running with everyone. You had us use our fingers to blow the "whistle" & off you would go. But the day of the race you were not feeling too well and started crying when you were to run your race. Nonetheless, you ran and came second; we were quite proud of you. | A | PR | 4 | 2 | 011

 April | 28, 2011

You are our Mr. Doityourself little man. No matter what it is, from putting on your clothes to making your tea, you always chant "I wanna do it" | You want to be so independent that if you want to do something and we already did it, you promptly do it over. And you always have a big grin when you accomplish tasks.

I love you with all my heart | ''

Always in my heart | May 8, 2011

It takes a special kind of person to face a room full of preschoolers - day after day - to coach them their their first attempts at socialisation with a smile, hug & encouraging word. Fortunately, you had such teachers in Aunties Carol and Andrea. We are grateful to them for making this year at preschool a great experience.

Your first report card was excellent considering the fact that you missed 6 weeks of school due to your illness. You missed out on a lot but that didn't stop you from mastering all that was left to learn. We are quite proud of you and what you have achieved thus far.

I can't even begin to describe how | great it is watching you grow and learn. You're like a sponge soaking up everything and we're amazed at how much you've learnt this past year. | June 21, 2011

You may not know how to read yet, but you sure are keen to learn.. By the | This particular "reading" session was quite funny. I saw you on | could recognise each letter of the alphabet. You are always asking | time you were two and a half, you already knew the ABC song and | us to read something or the other, as long as it has letters. One thing | you love to do when we are reading to you is recite whatever we | read....so we know without a doubt that you'll be learning to read | soon and that you'll enjoy doing so. | the verandah with the book in hand, turning the pages and mumbling | to yourself as if you were actually reading. And upon coming closer | to find out what you were saying, to my surprise you were telling the basic | story of the book. We had read it to you a few times and from that you knew | the storyline and could recite it.......I tell you, you never cease to amaze us!

You're such a great big brother who absolutely adores his new baby sister. You are constantly kissing, touching and wanting to hold her. You love telling me "mommy, the baby wants breast" whenever she cries, singing "hush baby" to her, touching her feet and just being protective. | You also go into fits of laughter whenever | she looks at you and love telling everyone to be quiet because "the baby is sleeping". Everyone thought you would be super jealous but I'm happy to report that you love her tremendously.

To say you are addicted to playing the games on nickjr.com is an understatement. As you awaken in the mornings you ask for the computer; if we allowed it, you would spend the entire day on the computer, only taking a break to use the bathroom. We have to literally force you to give it up for even a few minutes if we want to use it. We need to get you your own! | Addiction - the state of being enslaved to a habit. | To say you are addicted to playing the games on nickjr.com is an understatement. 33: Xavier, | The day you were first placed into my arms, I felt like two was a million miles away. But here we are. Before I had kids, I felt like a two-year old was a kid. But today I very much feel that you are still my baby. This past year I cannot believe how much you have grown and how much you have learned. Your little personality is changing everyday. Your personality is a perfectly Xavier blend of sweet, bossy, timid and smart, with plenty of ornery in there too. You are a little boss who loves to run the show. If you could, you would tell everyone what to do at all times. You have learned so much this year. You are talking in full sentences and picking up new things every hour. Sometimes you can be a little bully who loves to take toys from your cousins. We are working on that! But at the end of the day, all the parts of you are perfect in our eyes, because they are you..and you are ours. On the day you were born, I was head over heels. Two years later, my love for you multiplies every day. Watching you struggle with something, or seeing you sick tugs at my heart strings. Hearing you say "Mommy" ten million times a day makes me smile (most of the times). We are so proud to be your parents. The last year has been trying as we struggled with your health concerns. We were given a new-found sense of appreciation for each day we spend with you, and our goal as parents is to live in the moment and enjoy every second with you...the fun moments, the scary moments and even the challenging ones. We love you more than you can know and it grows every day. We are so blessed that you are ours. Love you to the moon...and back!

August 17, 2011 | I can hardly believe that my first | is already 3. My wish for you is | continued love and happiness | for the rset of your precious | life.

So we thought you'd be | disappointed had you not have a party; thus, we | splashing in the pool.

Always wanting to do things by yourself and insisting "I can do it"

Yippeee...You are now fully potty trained and no one is more happier than I am! What a trying road it has been. You've been using the toilet to pee since you were two years & four months. However, it's been quite a task to get you to poo in the toilet. We've cajoled you, praised you, threatened to take away the things you like and nothing worked. Then one day (August 26), I tried something new...I warned you that you would not come with me on the road again if you pooed in your brief. You didn't heed my warning and went in your brief anyway. The next day, I had to go on the road and you wanted to tag along but I told you no because you had not pooed in the toilet. You begged, pleaded, ranted & raved but I left you at home. The lesson hit home, because the next time (August 27) you ran to the toilet & pooed and have been doing so ever since!

One of the many things that we are most grateful for is your never ending enthusiasm to learn. You are such an acute observer; you watch and you imitate. " "Writing" has always been something that you love to do. You'd grab a pen or pencil and just start scribbling lines. So imagine our surprise when we saw that in this writing episode, you were actually forming letters and forming them legibly. You haven't been taught this at school or home, so it was both a shocking & proud moment to witness! | Oct 31, 2011

Xavier: A bit closer mommy, | (mommy reversing car) | Mommy: Thanks Xavier | Xavier: That's it, perfect | mommy | a bit closer | Xavier: Mommy, I want to buy red juice Mommy: I don't have any money, do you have any money? Xavier: Interesting things Mommy: Interesting things? Xavier: Yeah, interesting & important things like science

 December | 25, 2011

We had a traditional Christmas morning with you and your sister opening your gifts. You were quite excited and wasted no time in opening both yours and Zoya's. The next day (Boxing Day) we went by Uncle Les & Aunt Julett to the block party they were hosting. You had a blast jumping in the bounce-about | with your cousins and that was surely | the highlight of your evening.

March 2, 2012 | ...let the games begin

This was your 2nd sports day, but the 1st one where you laughed, played and had a grand ole time. This time around you were all gung-ho to run and in between playing with your friends, you kept asking me when they were gonna call your name for you to run. When they did call you to run, you had this intense look on your face at the staring line. Then when they blew the whistle you were off. You ran two races - the shape race and the relay. You came 4th in the shape race and 2nd in the relay for which you received a medal. It was so great to see you running and having fun with it and while you didn't win your races, I'm still quite proud of you!

This was your third time at the dentist and you were absolutely terrified. As soon as you sat in the chair you started crying. No matter what we did we couldn't calm you down. Your dad and the dentist assistants had to hold you down so the dentist could examine & clean your teeth. Once done though, you proudly showed off those pearly whites.

We took a family trip to grandma's first home in New Eden, Portland. Unfortunately, We didn't get to go splashing in the river as it rained all day....nevertheless, we always have fun when the bunch of us gets together.

Even as you grow older, you continue to be a backyard adventurer. You have plenty of hi-tech toys to play with but you just love the outdoors (especially without shoes). You can go hours on end just being outside, having fun all the while using your very active imagination.

You love to help in the kitchen! As soon | as you hear pots banging you run and | ask, "can I help?" We want to make | sure you | know how | to cook, so | you are never | discouraged | from helping | out. On this | occasion, you | were helping | your dad with | breakfast by | making the | dumplings. | Dumplings | Bananas | Calaloo

I was dropping you off at school when she asked me, "Mommy, do you know you have a very bright boy?" I could not stop grinning from ear to ear. Then she says, "He catches on quickly, loves to do his work and if I don't give him his work on time, is pure vex face and head on desk I get. So I always have to have something for him to do". Apparently, you and your cousin Alex had a little disagreement and you were none too pleased about it!
