FC: Our Little Angel
1: A Grandmother's Prayer Oh Lord, we do not ask for much, Eternal beauty, or youth, or such. Just give us a little hand to hold, And we will forget that we are growing old. We do not ask for cloudless skies, A life that's free from tears and sighs. Just give us a little face to kiss, And anxious moments will turn to bliss. For what is there, really, that means so much As little hands that reach and touch, As little eyes that search and see Only the best in fragile grannies? So let us grow more loving and wise By looking at life through their wide eyes. For through these little ones, you have given These grateful grandmothers a glimpse of Heaven. | PSALMS 139:13-16 God made all the delicate inner parts of your body and knit you together in your mother's womb. You are wonderfully complex! His workmanship is marvelous He watched you as you were being formed in utter seclusion, as you were woven together in the dark of the womb. He saw you before you were born. He recorded every day of your life in His book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. | This book was made for you precious Ethan with all my love and prayer Nana

46: FIRST HOSPITAL VISIT This was my first hospital visit. It was Wednesday, February 10th, 2009 when I fell against the glass on the fireplace. The fireplace had been on about four hours so it was very HOT! My right hand got the worst burn and some of the fingers on my left hand. I cried so hard. Daddy and Mommy took me to the Evergreen Hospital emergency room, and Nana met us there. They wrapped my hands in bandages and told us how to take care of the burns. In a few days I started to get infection so we had to go to Harborview Hospital in Seattle to the burn unit. We waited in the emergency room from 2:00 pm until 8:30 pm when I finally got a room. They gave me a sedative to help the pain but that only made me hyper. There were lots of toys to keep me busy. Later they gave me another sedative that made me even more hyper. Finally at 10:30 two nurses said they had to clean my burns and there was nothing they could do to prevent this from hurting. One nurse soaked my hand, the other nurse assisted. Nana held me and Mama was trying to entertain me. The nurse said we would have to all keep me restrained. Nope, I sat so still and watched the nurse as she cleaned my wounds and cut away all the blistered skin. I was so brave and did not even cry. My hand was bandaged and I was put to bed. Many friends came to visit me as I had a three days stay in the "jail" crib. I got a new nickname: "MITTENS" because I kept trying to take the bandages off, they had to put a sock on my hand.

Cell phones don't work here. This is truly camping. Deer visit our camp. There are millions of stars at night. This place is serene and peaceful!

86: THE MAXE (Later MAXIE) FAMILY Your great, great grandfather Gustave Maxie was born December 15,1878 in Oslo, Norway. He immigrated to Chicago, Illinois. Your great, great grandmother Tomana Langstrom was born September 19th, 1882 in Lillesand, Norway. She immigrated to Quincy, MA and later moved to Chicago and worked for Marshall Fields as a seamstress and model. She and Gustave were married August of 1903. They had six children Evelyn, Harry, Dorothy, Fred, Clifford, and James (your great grandfather). Jim as he liked to be called was born in a small town in Jenner, Alberta and served in the Navy. As the war broke out he moved to Halifax to prepare for deployment. Jim had been dating Mary Tuskey in Calgary before he left (great "Can"gram). They had a small wedding on November 14th, 1941. Six years later they bought a house in Calgary and began a family. Linda was born July 4h, 1948 and Craig, October 24th, 1954. Jim died March 18, 2002. THE TUTECKI ( Later TUSKEY) FAMILY Your great, great grandfather Roman (Roy), born in 1885, immigrated to Canada & eventually ended up in Winnipeg, then Calgary. He got a job with the CPR Railway. Elena (Helen) immigrated to Winnipeg then took the train to Calgary. She was to meet Roy at the train station but he was late. Helen was only 18 years of age, did not know anyone and could not speak or understand English. She started to cry and must have been so scared. Roy finally showed up with an ice-cream cone. They were married in 1912 and lived in a boarding house. Helen had to help the landlady to make meals, bake home-made bread, lunches for the men, clean house, wash clothes and bedding on a scrub board; what hard work. Over the years many of their friends from the Ukraine came to Calgary, so they had a network of friends to gather with at the Ukrainian Hall. They danced, sang, and celebrated their heritage. Roy and Helen had a daughter Anne, then a son John, later a daughter Mary born Calgary, Alberta, July 12, 1923. Roy died in Calgary in 1968 and Helen died in 1976.

94: SELLS BROTHERS CIRCUS In the late 1700s, Ludwig Sells, a German immigrant, sent his two sons to Ohio to look for land to settle. Located near Columbus, Ohio, 1,000 acres was the unincorporated area called Sellsville. Peter, the grandson of Ludwig had five sons. The four, Ephraim, Allen, Lewis and Peter began to work together to make this circus the biggest and best ever. One of the really big features of the Sells Brothers Enormous United Shows were their elephants. At the time, most circuses transported their elephants by wagon, but the Sells Brothers wanted their star attractions to only go first class, so they constructed a number of specially designed railroad cars that could transport their giant beasts from one town to another. In 1880 Annie Oakley and her husband Frank Butler joined the Sells Brothers Circus as a shooting act. They met the great Sioux Indian chief Sitting Bull in St. Paul, Minn. By 1890, the Sells Brothers Circus was the second largest circus in America. The brothers divided the duties as follows: Allen Sells was the manager; Lewis was assistant manager and superintendent, with Ephraim as treasurer & superintendent of tickets. Over the years the troupe of performers grew and expanded. At its peak the show included a 328' big top, 6 other large tents, 322 workers, 64 performers, 50 cages of wild animals, 13 elephants, and 7 camels. Sells Brothers circus merged with the circus operated by Adam Forepaugh to form the Forepaugh-Sells Brothers' Circus in 1900. It later merged with the Floto Dog & Pony Show into Sells Floto Circus. The Sells brothers ran their circus for 35 years and later was merged with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey. | Sells-Floto Circus Band 1915 | Sells Brothers Circus Big Top Tent | Sells-Floto Buffalo Bill Circus 1914
