3: Words from your Great Grandma Oliver... Dear Jackson, I was born in 1918 in Ninety Six, South Carolina in our home. When I was about 18 years old I got saved in a revival. The sermon was from Genesis about when God said, “Adam, where art thou?” The evangelist asked where we were with God. God has always been with me even in difficult times. I grew up on a farm. During the Depression we had better times than a lot of others because we grew our own food. I married Papa in 1943. During WWII, Papa left to go serve in the Air Force as a navigator. When his plane was shot down, I received a message from the war department saying he was wounded in action. During that time we didn't communicate like now, so our only means of hearing from those in the war was through the war department. Three weeks went by before I knew he had been rescued. My sisters were very comforting to me during this time. My sister Lucille said maybe he was only wounded slightly. Papa told me later that when he was in the ocean for a few hours before he was rescued, he prayed that if the Lord could see in his future that he could be of service to others, to please save him. Jackson, I want you to always faithfully serve the Lord. Serving the Lord will not always be easy. There will be difficult times. Trust the Lord and keep ”moving on”. The Lord has promised not to leave us. I have experienced this. I love you, Jackson. Love, Mama Oliver
