2: Your Birth Story You arrived on your actual due date, October 20th, 2011, however your birth story really started the day before. Daddy and I went to the hospital, for me to be induced at 7 a.m. on Oct. 19th, due to the very itchy pregnancy rash I had gotten a couple weeks before. It was driving me crazy, so my doctor gave me the option at my appointment the Monday before, to either give me steroids or go ahead and induce. Since I was so close to my due date and so anxious to meet you, I chose to be induced. So Daddy and I headed to the hospital the morning of the 19th, fully expecting to meet you sometime later that day. Never did I dream it would be 20 hours later and end in a c-section. We arrived at the hospital at 7 a.m. and the doctor came in at around 8:30a.m. or so to break my water. It wasn't too long after that, they started me on Pitocin. Once I got the Pitocin, it wasn't very long before I was having pretty regular contractions. So at around noon, I got an epidural. The contractions weren't terrible at the time, but I was at about 4 cm and the doctor said I could have it anytime I wanted it. So I figured I'd go ahead and get it before the contractions got any stronger. I was under the impression that the epidural wouldn't hurt that bad... well that was a misconception. It HURT!! And unfortunately, it didn't work very well on me. I was still feeling contractions on one side and after several hours, they decided to try giving me a new epidural. This was not at all good news. Thankfully, the second epidural didn't hurt quite as bad as the first one, as I was still a little numb. After getting the second epidural at around 3 p.m., I was around 5 cm dilated and feeling pretty good. This lasted for about 5 hours or so and then I started feeling contractions again! I had progressed very little and was starting to worry as to why this was taking so long and why the epidural wasn't working again. After a couple more hours, I was only at 8 to 9 cm dilated and still not fully effaced. The epidural had worn off and I was feeling contractions but wasn't progressing any further. At around midnight, the nurse realized that you were face up, which makes delivery much more difficult and usually results in a lot more pushing or a c-section. The doctor came in and tried to turn you, but she was unsuccessful. They had me lay on either side to try and get you to turn over, but that didn't work either.
3: At this point, I actually started digressing instead of progressing and your heart rate started to go down. So the doctor thought it would be best for me to have a c-section. Of course I was scared to death and there were a few tears shed. This was not at all the way I had hoped labor and delivery would go.Thankfully, you have some wonderful family that were there for Daddy and I. Your Maw Maw comforted us and calmed some of our fears. So they wheeled me back to the operating room, and gave me a stronger drug through the epidural so that I wouldn't feel a thing during surgery. I was pretty nervous about feeling the pain because the epidural earlier in the day hadn't worked very well. But the drugs they gave me worked well and I didn't feel a thing. The stronger drugs did, however, make me sick to my stomach, which wasn't fun at all. But I was just thankful not to feel any of the pain. Once they let Daddy come back into the operating room, I felt a lot better and at 2:59 a.m. we heard the most wonderful sound in the world, your sweet voice crying. I've never been so happy in all of my life. At that moment I cried tears of joy, and none of what I had been through that day even mattered. I was so thankful that we had a healthy baby. At that point Daddy went over to see you as they stitched me back up. I remember him saying that you looked like him and that you had some blond hair. I asked how much you weighed and to my surprise, you weighed a whopping 8 pounds, 12 ounces and were 21 inches long. You were a much bigger baby than I thought you would be. Daddy took some pictures and showed them to me. Then I finally got to see you for the first time. Daddy brought you over to show me and I was instantly in love. After I was all stitched up, they wheeled me to a recovery room where I basically slept for the next two hours. They gave me morphine for the pain, which made me sick, but then made me sleepy. While I slept, you got your first bath and got all cleaned up. Daddy and Maw Maw kept me company in the recovery room and then they brought you in for us to hold you. I was a little too groggy to hold you then , but once they got me into a regular room, I was finally able to hold and feed you. We stayed in the hospital until Sunday October 23rd. Once home, we took it easy and just snuggled and loved on you as much as possible. You slept well and were a very good baby. We are so grateful to God for the blessing He gave us, when He gave us you, Jackson. You bring such joy to our lives. We love you so much and can't thank God enough for you!
