Matthew, you decided to come a little early, well, a LOT early. I went to the hospital to check on what I thought was a sore muscle...
After we were seen by Dr Clague, he remarked... "Oh Crap... You're 7.5 cm... You're having this baby tonight..." What a Surprise!!!
Through out the whole evening there was so much Praying, Glory Given to God, Jesus Name declaring, Spirit filled JOY that I think I was carried through the 'un-delivery' and the delivery. I can't explain how evident the Lord was in the room. Matthew was so protected. I know that this will sound so wonky to anyone who hasn't experienced the personal side of God... but MAN it was Amazing!!!
There were so many people there... Natasha and Daddy were with me in the labor room (along with Dr Clague, Dr Locke, the EMTs, the LifeFlight nurses, the regular nurses) and in the waiting room were Pastor Lynn, Pastor Micah and Pastor Cory... What a crowd! We were rejoicing and praising God - it was a Glory filled Labor!
Dr Clague said, "it's 1am and I'd like to be home in 20min" We all laughed and then it happened. Un-medicated, natural, God filled Labor. And then there was Matthew. He came out screaming! not blue, and not in distress... Dr Clague did some great steps to make sure Matthew was protected. It was a little 'uncomfortable' for me, but I'll heal. the important thing is that he came out amazing, absolutely amazing... The Life Fight team took him, after David cut the cord (I'm so glad that he could do that!) and took Matthew to stabilize him and what not. It was kinda weird - I knew he'd be OK - I saw him leave me... and then I was just there in the room waiting and waiting to get to see him again. Diana brought him to me, after David got to hold him. It was so amazing. Looking at Matthew... sigh I have no words.
Matthew was taken to the nursery and stabilized. Matthew didn't need a respirator, or steroids to open your lungs, to be intubated, or put on straight oxygen. Matthew was breathing on his own. To help out a little the nurses started Matthew on Forced air. That was it; and IV for antibiotics and lipids and a feeding tube.... It was still an emergency a lot could have gone wrong - but it didn't. My baby was taken care of, before he was born, while I carried him, during birth, while at the hospital and I'm sure God will continue to care for him!!
We spent the first three weeks at the IWK. The nurses were so wonderful. Momma stayed in Halifax, and Daddy drove back and forth. God was working so 'big' in that little body. Matthew, was growing so big and so fast!! We held him, bathed him, feed him, and loved him. We prayed for him,and played with him. Matthew amazed everybody!
 Matthew, you are LOVED
Matthew's last day at the hospital! it was a surprise, we thought we'd have to stay for the full 10 weeks, 8 at best - but it was just 3 weeks. GOd was working on you lil' Mister! Not a month later, we were off on our first trip anywhere - EastLink Sales Executive Club. Nannie McG came along to babysit.
Matthew's first Sunday in Church - it was so good to be HOME.!!
Nannie McGuire Came to stay for the first week home. Matthew, she loved to rock you, sing to you, pray over you. The best part of having Nannie McG over, was I got to sleep!!
We are so blessed, I can't even express it most days. Matty is here, he's right here. There are days I just sit & cry with joy over our little boy. He wasn't supposed to exists, to be carried but he was... he was supposed to be weak and fragile, and look at him, he's strong, growing and was taking off the 'preemie; list at 2months old. He is amazing all of us. God is Good!!
Matty slept a lot, and sometimes with Daddy
 He also Napped with Grampie
Watching Matthew grow is the best thing ever, but it reminds us that these moments are passing by so quickly.
On Matthew's "Sposta" Birthday Omi and Opi Skafte stopped by... we Celebrated with Cake.
At Matthew's 2 month checkup, he was taken off of 'preemie status' Something that Surprised both us and the Doctor... but we know that God is in control and Matthew just keeps letting God show off. We are so thankful for our Miracle. God is Good!
Matthew is one of the happiest babies on the planet (and as family, I'm sure you would agree one of the cutest.) But the book wouldn't completely reflect Matty's life if we didn't have at least one grumpy face in the pages.
