FC: Cuba

1: Geography | Cuba is the largest island in the west Indies. It is mountainous in the south, and south east. it is located only 90 miles from Key West Florida.

2: The main agricultural product of Cuba is sugarcane. Also tobacco is the 2nd largest agricultural product of Cuba

3: The official language of Cuba is Spanish. Also Cuba is 42,426 sq miles. The largest city is Havana. Cuba is a Catholic country. Some Cubans believe in Santeria. | A cathedral in Havana

4: History | Cuba has a lot of history. Cuba is most known for "The Cuban Missile crisis" The Soviet Union secretly built bases on Cuba. The United States discovered this when a plane flew over and discovered missiles being built. It took 2 weeks for the Soviets to remove the missiles from Cuba.

6: There is a Cuban custom of passing down recipes to generations of Cubans.. On the 24th of December, Cubans have a large meal on that day, instead of on Christmas. Roast pork is the main dish, along with black beans and rice.

7: Black beans: 1 bag of black beans 1medium onion 1/4 green pepper 1 whole bay leaf 1 tbsp garlic powder 1/4 tsp. cumin 1/4 tsp oregano olive oil salt Separate the beans. wash 3 times. put beans in pressure pot 3/4 filled with water. soak for 2 hours. add all ingredients. put in flame. must whistle put on high. let whistle. turn low- slow whistle 1/2 hour. take off. olive oil and salt to taste. let cook on open flame until all liquid is absorbed. serve over rice. | Cuban Chicken: Remove skin-wash-grease-cut breast in half salt, garlic powder- little pepper- let sit 1 egg, 1/2 t. backing powder beat together- 2 T of vinegar add last. beat again Flour in plastic bag- chicken in egg mixture then flour make sure all covered Cover half of frying pan with oil, cook on medium for till golden brown and cooked through.

8: Arroz Con Pollo 1 union chopped 1/2 green pepper- cut in strips 1/4 tsp Cumin 1/2 tsp. oregano 2 tsp garlic powder 1 pay leaf 1/2 tsp bijol 1/2 cup veg oil 5 cups water 4 cups rice on high heat add all ingredients add one can of tomato sauce, and add chicken. cook chicken and add 4 chicken bullion cubes. | Ropas Viejas 1 1/2 flank steak, cut in to 2 inch widths. salt and garlic powder to taste. 2 Tbs lemon juice 1 medium onion, chopped fine 1/4 green pepper, cut in long strips 1/2 c. vegetable oil, 1 tomato can 1/2 c. white cooking wine. Put meat into a pressure cooker. cover meat with water. bring pressure cooker to high until pressure builds, then to medium. Cook 1/2 hour. release pressure. place meat in bowl. add salt, garlic powder and lemon. in frying pan, place oil, onion and green pepper. add tomato sauce. let cook. add meat, mix well. add wine. cook on low until sauce thickens. serve over rice.

9: Flan 1 cup milk 6 egg yolks and one whole egg mix in blender on a slow speed. add 1can of condensed milk. 1 small cream cheese (cut up) 1 tsp vanila, pinch of salt- run blender on high speed for 1 minute. 1 cup sugar in pan on stove, and melt. when melted pour and coat 6 inch round 3 inch deep baking bowl. pour on bottom and all sides. then add mixture in a roasting pan, put dish in, and fill the roasting pan up half way with water, set 375 degress, for 1 hour. test with tooth pick.

10: An example of exotic Cuban food, is pig feet. Also ox tail

11: Bay leaves. Bay leaves add a distinct flavor in food, and fragrance | Cumin This adds a very flavor to the food. it is a very distinct flavor.

12: Salt Salt is used in just about every Cuban meal. | Garlic powder Garlic powder gives Cuban food its distinct taste, and smell.

13: Oregano It gives Cuban food an aromatic taste.
