4: BBQ Franks | 6 T. vegetable oil 3 T. Worcestershire sauce 1/2 cup chopped onions 9 T. ketchup dash paprika 6 T. vinegar dash pepper 1 package of hot dogs 6 t. sugar Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all ingredients, except hot dogs. Simmer over stove in small pot for 5-10 over medium heat. Slit hot dogs and put in 8x8 pan. Pour sauce over hot dogs and bake for 20 minutes. | 350

6: Steak Casserole | 1.5-2 lbs. round steak 1/2 c. onion 1/2 c. celery dash salt & pepper 1 can mushroom soup 1 can chicken rice soup Cut steak in narrow strips or cubes and brown in small amount of fat. Push meat to side of pan and sauté onion and celery in browned juices. Add 1 can mushroom soup & 1 can chicken rice soup. Simmer 10-15 minutes and serve.

8: Hot Chicken Salad | 2 c. cubed chicken 2 c. diced celery 1 10z. package of frozen peas (cook then chill) 1/2 c. toasted slivered almonds 2 T. lemon juice 2 t. grated onion 1 t. salt 1/2 c. shredded cheddar cheese 1 c. toasted bread cubes Combine all ingredients except shredded cheese and bread cubes. Pour into greased 9x13 pan. Top with shredded cheese and bread cubes. Bake at 400 for 20 minutes.

When cooking, go by your own taste." ~Laiko Bahrs | Fried Chicken & Gravy | chicken oil salt paprika milk flour Cut up the chicken and remove skin (she always cut the breast down into two pieces as well). Salt and place in fridge for a few hours. Make flour mixture: 1 Cup flour, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon paprika. Dip chicken pieces in milk and then in flour mixture. Heat up 1/2 inch or so of oil in large fry pan to 350 degrees. Fry the chicken until golden brown and thoroughly cooked, about 5-10 minutes on each side. Drain on paper towels. Remove extra oil from pan. Make chicken gravy by scrapping up all the bits stuck to the pan, adding flour, cooking it and then stirring in milk. Cook until thick. Add salt and pepper as needed. Gravy ratio: 2 Tbsp pan drippings, 2 Tbsp flour, 2 -3 Cups milk.

12: Peanut & Pea Salad 1 lb. frozen peas 1lb. peanuts 1 c. mayonnaise 1 c. sour cream Cook peas until nearly done. Take off heat and cover with cold water until cooled. Add rest of ingredients and mix well. Chill.

15: "There is no love sincerer than the love of food." ~George Bernard Shaw | Turkey Stuffing | Whole Turkey 1 1/2 cup celery 12 c. bread 2 t. salt 1 c. margarine/butter 1 t. pepper 3/4 c. onion 1 T. sage Optional: water/chicken broth Cut break into cubes and put in a large bowl. Melt margarine over medium heat in large fry pan. Add onions and celery, saute. Then add salt, pepper & sage. Pour mixture over bread cubes. Mix until just moisten. If needed, add a little bit of water or chicken broth to moisten stuffing. Refrigerate overnight. Stuff into turkey. Bake turkey in oven for 3.5-4 hours at 325 degrees. If there is extra stuffing, roll it in aluminum foil and bake outside of turkey for about 20 minutes.

16: Macaroni Salad | 2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni 1 t. celery salt 1 small can tuna 1 t. sugar 1 cup diced onions dash paprika 1 cup diced celery 1/2 cup mayonnaise Optional: 1/2 c. chopped green pepper, 1/2 c. shredded cheddar cheese Cook elbow macaroni according to package instructions. Pour into bowl. Add tuna, celery, and onions. Mix well. In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, celery salt, and sugar. Then pour mixture into large bowl with macaroni and mix. Add green peppers and shredded cheddar cheese if desired. Chill.

18: Potato Salad | 2 lbs. potatoes (7-8 potatoes) 1 t. mustard 4 hard boiled eggs 1 1/2 t. celery salt 1/2 c. onions dash paprika 1/2 c. celery dash pepper 1 bunch radish 1 t. sugar 3/4 c. mayonnaise Wash, peel, chunk, and boil potatoes in water until fork tender. Mix cooked potatoes, celery, and onion. In separate small bowl, mix mayonnaise, mustard, celery, salt and sugar. Chop 3 of the hard boiled eggs and mix in. Slice one egg on top, sprinkle with pepper and paprika.

21: Pineapple Punch | 4 c. sugar 1 c. lemon juice 4 c. water 2 quarts soda water 8 c. pineapple juice Boil water and sugar in large pot until sugar dissolves. Add in rest of ingredients. Makes 2 punch bowls full. Each batch: 3 c. sugar water, 4 c. pineapple juice, 1/c. lemon juice, 1 quart soda.

23: Picnic Cake | 1 chocolate cake mix 1 small box of vanilla pudding mix chocolate chips & chopped walnuts to top Make pudding as directed on box. Add in cake mix powder. Spread in grease 9x13 or larger pan. Top with chocolate chips and chopped walnuts. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes or until edges pull away from pan. | Louise, Emil, Katie & Kevin

25: Peanut Butter Star Cookies | 1 3/4 cup flour 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 t salt 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 t baking soda 1 egg 1/2 cup margarine 1 t vanilla 1/2 peanut butter Combine all ingredients and bake at 375 for 12 minutes. Press chocolate star into center of each cookie while still warm. | Louise & Katie

27: Name | Brownies | 1/2 cup oil 3/4 cup flour 1 cup sugar 1/2 t. baking powder 1/4 cup cocoa 1/2 t. salt 2 eggs 1/2 cup nuts Heat oil, sugar and cocoa in medium pan over medium heat. Add rest of ingredients when cool. Pour in 9x13 pan and bake at 350 for 25 minutes.

28: Pudding Cake | 1 c. flour 1/2 c. milk 3/4 c. sugar 2 T. vegetable oil 2 T. cocoa (& 1/4 c.) 1 t. vanilla 2 t. baking powder 1/2 c. chopped walnuts 1/2 t. salt 3/4 c. brown sugar 1 3/4 c. hot water Mix together flour, sugar, 2 T. cocoa, baking powder and salt. Add milk, oil, and vanilla and mix until smooth. Stir in nuts. Pour into greased 8x8 baking pan. Combine rest of ingredients, power over batter. Bake at 350 degrees for about 40 minutes. | Grandma Garrison, Janice, Louise, & Katie

31: No Bakes | 1 stick margarine 1/2 t. vanilla dash salt 1/2 c. cocoa 1/2 c. milk 2 c. sugar 3 c. oatmeal 1/2 c. peanut butter Stir together margarine, salt, vanilla, cocoa, sugar, and milk in small pot over medium heat. Increase heat and boil 1-3 minutes. Add peanut butter and oatmeal. Drop onto waxed paper and let cool.

32: Fudge 2 chocolate squares 2 T butter 2/3 c. milk 1 t. vanilla 2 c. sugar 1/4 c. nuts 1 T Karo syrup dash of salt Melt chocolate squares with milk over medium heat. Add in sugar, syrup and salt. Cook without stirring until soft ball on candy thermometer. Remove from heat and add rest of ingredients. Pour into greased 9x9 pan.

35: Tartie Blitz | 1/2 cup butter 3 t milk 1/2 sugar 1 cup flour 4 egg yolks 1 t baking powder 1 t vanilla Mix the above ingredients and divide into two greased and floured 8" round pans. 4 egg whites 1 cup sugar 1/4 cup nuts (to sprinkle on top) Put the above ingredients on top of cake and bake at 350 for 25 minutes. Topping: Whipped cream and strawberries Note: You can also serve individually, so the cake part does not get soggy from topping.
