FC: My Election Scrapbook
Home of the free...Because of the Brave | Obama vs. Romney
Barack Obama | Barack Obama is the democratic candidate for the 2012 presidential election. He was born on August 4th, 1969 in Hawaii. His father was from Kenya and his mom was from Kansas, although his grandparents helped raise him. He attended Occidental College, but then he was transferred to Columbia University. He moved to Chicago after graduation to help organize and rebuild communities. He went to law school and became the first African American president at his school. He was elected to the Illinois Senate in 1996, and the American Senate in 2004. In 2008 he ran for president of America and won becoming the first African American president. As president he established Obama-care witch cost us a bunch of money and raised taxes. People have insulted him and made fun of him for the actions he has done. But, he has some good things too. Because of him, the evil terrorist and leader of al-Qaeda, Osama Bin Laden (the man responsible for the attacks on 9/11) was killed. It was a great day for America. Barack Obama is married to Michele Obama and they have 2 kids, Sasha and Malia.
Mitt Romney is the Republican candidate for the 2012 presidential election. He was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1947. He was raised in Bloomfield Hills and his dad was the Governor of Michigan. This caused him to become interested in politics. He went to Brigham Young University. After that he became a businessman and helped establish a lot of companies. In the1999 Olympic games, he became the CEO of the games that year. In 2004 he became the governor of Massachusetts. He helped out the state’s health care, and the state of Massachutes became really wealthy with health care because everyone was protected. In 2008 he tried running for the Republican candidate for President, but lost against John McCain. He is running again this year and this time he is the republican candidate. He is married to Ann Romney, and they have 5 sons, Tagg, Ben, Craig, Josh and Matt. He has a bunch of grandkids. He is winning in Texas. | Mitt Romney
The Second Presidential debate happened on October 16th. Candy Crowley moderated it. The debate was mainly about helping out the citizens of America and middle class citizens getting the money they deserve. They talked about oil and fossil fuels and getting oil from a safer place. They talked about how Obama was different from past presidents like George W. Bush and Bill Clinton. They talked about the fights happening between Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya. I could tell that Mitt Romney was focusing on helping out families so they can get more money to the middle class, while Obama’s words were big and confusing. In my opinion Romney won, because he made sense and was more helpful with keeping our country safe and wealthy.
The Big Issues | The Economy | One main issue is the economy. This means jobs, careers, and what we get paid to do. The Democrats think that the government should spend more money to help the people who are struggling. The Republicans think that the government should stop spending so much money , and that will help make more jobs.
Education | Education is another important issue. School is for most Americans Ages 5 to 21. Education helps people know what to do with their life. Both parties think education is important. The Democrats want to help out kids who can't afford college. This may be helpful one day. The Republicans want parents to have more options to educate their kids, so they can get a better education.
The Big Issues continued | Taxes | One main issue is the economy. This means jobs, careers, and what we get paid to do. The Democrats think that the government should spend more money to help the people who are struggling. The Republicans think that the government should stop spending so much money , and that will help make more jobs. | Taxes is another major issue. Taxes means our money and what we have to pay to the government. The Democrats think that rich people should pay more money for taxes. That’s one bad thing about being rich. Romney wants lower taxes, because he wants people to focus on the economy and jobs.
Health Care | Healthcare is another important issue. Healthcare is about hospitals, doctors, insurance, and other things that make our lives healthy. Obama Created Obama Care, which helps out people without a bunch of money. Romney and the Republicas think that health care should be cheaper and the government shouldn't be so involved . That would help out all 50 states.
The Big Issues | Defense | One main issue is the economy. This means jobs, careers, and what we get paid to do. The Democrats think that the government should spend more money to help the people who are struggling. The Republicans think that the government should stop spending so much money , and that will help make more jobs. | National defense is the last main issue. This is all about keeping our country safe, and about WAR! This involves soldiers fighting and protecting us from groups like AL Qaeda. Both parties want to keep our country safe. Obama has been successful in doing this, because Bin Laden is dead. The Republicans want to spend more government money on protecting us and buying weapons.

Do you know that even though Alaska is the biggest state, it has one of the least amounts of electorial votes? It dosent matter how big the state is. It’s about how many people live in the state. California has the most electoral votes. Texas is second. We use the Electoral college to vote who should be President of the United States of America. The founding fathers established this in the constitution in 1787. Each state has 2 senators and then some representatives based on how many people live there. The number of senators and representatives is the amount of votes each state gets. We are lucky since Texas gets the second most number of votes. Way back in the 1700s , some people thought that only senators should be able to vote. But some people thought that normal people could vote too. The compromise is what we use today. People vote and electors give the government the real vote of the state. To become President you need to have 270 votes. 48 states have a winner take all system, but Maine and Nebraska work differently. There are a total of 538 votes, but like I said before you only need 270 to win. The Electoral College gets together and they chose the president on January 6. On January 20th, the winner becomes president. They serve for 4 years then there is a new election. The 2 guys running this year are current president Barack Obama and Former Governor Mitt Rodney. Who will you vote for?

What makes a good President? | Not everyone is cut out to be the President of the United States. The President is very important and needs to have certain qualities. First, a President needs to care about children. Children will create the world of tomorrow, so a President needs to make a good impression on the children. Presidents often help out in wars, so it would be good if the President had experience in the military. Many of the former Presidents had military experience, like Washington, Jackson, Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Roosevelt. Their knowledge of the military helped them defend America. A President also needs to be patriotic and represent our country well. Having experience in politics helps them make good decisions for our country. It helps if a President is healthy as well. This will help make sure they are healthy and don’t die in office. Finally, a President must be honest! If a President is not honest, he can be impeached like Johnson and Clinton. Those are the most important qualities of being a good President.
I would like to talk to you today about Autism. I think kids with Autism are the best people in the world, especially the ones named Aaron! If you remember, Thomas Jefferson was rumored to have a kind of Autism. I believe some new Autism programs should be created so those kids can have fun with the other kids. Normal kids could be paid for helping out kids their own age with Autism. I also believe we should research and develop new medicines that could help people with Autism. | Presidential Speech
