1: A Day in the Life of 225 2010-2011 School Year By Ms. Garcia's 4th Grade Class South Loop School Made for the SLS Spring Benefit
2: The school day begins at 9 on the dot. We line up, we're ready, We know that it's time. Straight as rulers, We form two parallel lines. Collect the homework, do the bellwork. Take attendance, hear announcements. "Have a roaring good day," they say, “"The South Loop Way."
4: Language Arts begins. Book adventures within. As we read, The words jump off the page. The book speaks to us With a defining voice. The words flow through our ears. Information soars to our brains. We learn. Figurative language, Paragraphs of persuasion, Narrative writing, Essays and reflections Our pens share our thoughts, Share our expressions.
6: For forty minutes a day We have special classes. Brushes share our words Through pictures in art. Screeching whistles Put us to a halt in gym. BOOM! BAM! Goes the drum in band. Voices are singing Through the sound of music. It's the battle of "Los ninos" and "las ninas" En la clase de Espanol. Rustling through the pages, We solve Ms. Martin'’s \Magnificent mysteries.
8: By 11:30 our stomachs are Roaring with hunger Glop, slop, "move down the line,"!” The lunch lady calls.. Smack, smack, munch munch. The sounds we make when we're at lunch The park plays with All the children at recess. Together as one, we run fast like cheetahs. Up, down, left, right All these games are out of sight. Click, clack, mancala pieces drop Tic, tock, do we have to stop? Back to work, play time is over Get a move on it, get in order!
10: Addition, subtraction, Multiplication, division All the problems come together Like one big collision. So many notes, so many words, Science vocabulary jumbles in our brains. Boom! Bang! Goes the liquid In the test tube. Boom! Pow! Science explodes in our heads! Researching 50 states In the 5 regions of the USA. We try to take notes with no noise. We share what we learned Like tour guides on Route 66.
12: It’s 2:45 It's time for dismissal. Kids are like rhinos Stampeding over each other! Stomp! Stomp! Rumble! Rumble! Kids go out the door... Tap, tap, parents shoes wait for Anxious children. The school day is over, Time to go home, Do homework and play Then get a good night's rest, So we're ready for another day!
