2: A-ACL-Festival- Variety | The Austin City Limits Music Festival (ACL Festival) is an annual three-day American music festival. It takes place in Austin, Texas at the city's central public park, Zilker Park. Each year, ACL Festival brings together more than 130 acts from all over the world to play rock, indie, country and more on eight stages. Over 70,000 fans attend the festival each day. Named after the legendary PBS concert series, the Festival is produced by Austin-based C3 Presents.

3: B-Beyonce Knowles-Solo Artist- R&B, soul | Beyoncé Knowles is an American recording artist, actress and fashion designer. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, she enrolled in various performing arts schools and was first exposed to singing and dancing competitions as a child. Knowles rose to fame in the late 1990s as the lead singer of the R&B girl group Destiny's Child. She is currently married to Jay-Z.

4: C- Cactus Cafe & Bar-Music venue-Blues | The Texas Union was built in 1933. It was built to serve as a college independent community center or "living room" on campus. It is one of the buildings designed by Paul Cret. He designed the Tower and Main Building, Goldsmith Hall and Texas Memorial Museum on campus. Money to build the Union was raised by the Texas Exes in a campaign led by Thomas Watt Gregory.

5: D- Deep in the heart of texas-song- traditional | “Deep in the Heart of Texas” is an American popular song elaborating on the merits of the state of Texas. The song has become one of many de facto Texas state songs. The 1941 song features lyrics by June Hershey and music by Don Swander. The song was first recorded by Perry Como with Ted Weems and His Orchestra. They recorded on December 9 of that year for Decca Records in Los Angeles, California. It was a single release on the flip side of the song “Ollie Ollie Out’s In Free.” “Deep in the Heart of Texas” spent five weeks at the top of Your Hit Parade in 1942.

6: E- Emo's- Music venue-Rock | Emo’s isn’t the cleanest or the fanciest, but it is the spot in Austin for catching the best band acts around. Emo’s Austin features two performance stages, indoor and outdoor, a fully stocked bar and a beer garden. It is an intimate live music venue packed with tons of character and spunk. Emo’s Austin got its start in the nightclub industry as a punk club. Since then Emo’s has grown to cater a multitude of music genres including hip hop, alternative and indie. Johnny Cash, Modest Mouse, De La Soul and Kings of Leon are just some of the hit entertainers that have appeared on the Emo’s schedule.

7: F- Kerrville folk festival-festival- variety | The Kerrville Folk Festival is held annually at the Quiet Valley Ranch, 9 miles south of Kerrville on Texas Hwy 16. Starting on the Thursday before Memorial Day at the end of May, the music continues for 18 days. More than 100 singer songwriters and their bands perform here. The annual Kerrville New Folk songwriting competition is held on the first weekend and draws 32 of the best of America's emerging songwriters. Award winners are recognized at a special concert on the second weekend.

8: G- GOD BLESSED TEXAS- SONG- COUNTRY | "God Blessed Texas" is the title of a song by country music group Little Texas and the second single from their second album, Big Time. It was co-written by the band's lead guitarist Porter Howell, and keyboardist and vocalist Brady Seals. The song reached #4 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. It also peaked at #55 on the Billboard Hot 100, their most successful song on that chart. The song was used by the Ford Motor Company TV advertisements in several Texas cities where 'Ford is the Best in Texas' is substituted for the 'God Blessed Texas' line.

9: H- Hilary Duff- solo artist- pop | Hilary Erhard Duff was born September 28, 1987 in Houston, Texas. She is an American actress, singer song-writer and book author. She also worked in local theater plays and television commercials in her childhood. Duff gained fame playing the title role in the Disney Channel television series Lizzie McGuire. She subsequently ventured into motion pictures and has appeared in many successful films, A Cinderella Story and more. She most recently appeared in According to Greta and Stay Cool. Her upcoming films include Bloodworth, The Story of Bonnie and Clyde, and She Wants Me.

10: I- Round top international guitar festival- festival- variety | The festival is held each February at the International Festival-Institute in Round Top. The International Guitar Festival features a variety of a musicians as well as the Round Top Philharmonic. The festival is first held in 2004, the International Guitar Festival has grown into one of Texas' most recognized music festival. Each installment of the International Guitar Festival features a number of renown guitarists, as well as a dinner, reception and performance by the Round Top Philharmonic. The International Guitar Festival is held at the International Festival-Institute, 248 Jaster Road, Round Top.

11: J- Jj henson band- band- country | With the release of their debut album “On A Night Like This” last year with the help of John Armstrong and Earl Thomas Conley, the band has taken a leap of faith in the Texas Music Scene and has been widely accepted. JJ Henson started off singing Bluegrass Festivals when he was 11 years old. JJ followed his grandfather Dub Grissom, also a musician, from festival to festival. JJ started off by competing in the Colgate Country Music Showdown where he qualified in the Semi-Finals. During the process of playing the venues around Texas, JJ headed back up to Nashville after being nominated to represent Texas in the Grand Ole Oprys Sing Against The Stars. JJ placed 14 out of 58 contestants in the nationwide contest. They are currently in San Antonio, Texas.

12: K- 88 Keys- music venue- classical | 88 KEYS, THE Piano Bar, is another endeavor of owner, Beau Theriot. Located in the previous Brownstone Restaurant, Houston, Texas, 88 KEYS has already earned a reputation for a perfect venue for quiet conversation and musical enjoyment. Nestled among antiques, fabulous art work and eclectic touches, 88 KEYS offers a quiet getaway among the Upper Kirby and River Oaks districts. In addition to being a great nightlife venue, with professional pianists and entertainers, 88 KEYS promises to be a fabulous space for private events. Upstairs is the wildly popular Red Room with Sips & Sounds to please any discerning patron.

13: L- Luckenbach, texas-song- traditional | "Luckenbach, Texas (Back to the Basics of Love)" is a popular song sung by Waylon Jennings released in April 1977, at the height of outlaw country on the hit album Ol' Waylon. It was written by Chips Moman and Bobby Emmons about leaving "high society" for the small town of Luckenbach, Texas. The final refrain of the song features a guest vocal by Willie Nelson. The song debuted on April 16, 1977 reaching #1 on the country charts on May 21, 1977 and staying there until June 25, 1977. It also reached #25 on the pop charts while causing Ol' Waylon to reach the top of the country album charts and #15 on Billboard Top LPs and Tapes chart. It is included in "A Texas Medley", composed by Jim Clancy and sung by The Vocal Majority.

14: M- Momo's- music venues-variety | Momo’s is a live music venue located in Austin, Texas featuring live music seven nights a week. Momo’s showcases a diversity of musical styles blending established local acts, national touring acts and developing young acts. Momo’s is run by Paul Oveisi. You can see the entire Austin skyline when you go out the deck. The stage is easily visible and audible from both inside and outside. Cover charge usually ranges from $5 to $15 depending on the night and covers the entire night of music.

15: N- Nu Groove Band- band- R&B | The Nu Groove is a high energy band in Dallas, Texas established in 2007. They play a variety of music including, but are mostly rock based. But they also do pop, country, jazz, R&B, Disco and oldies. They specialize in weddings, and private events. Part of their specialty is catering to your needs, which includes learning special songs for an event.

16: O- Old Settlers Festival-Festival-Variety | The Old Settler’s Music Festival includes music such as bluegrass, Americana, and jazz. The people who attend plant themselves in fields of wildflowers and watch the most spirited and fun-loving music. This year, the 35-act, 4-stage, 4-day festival taking place at the Salt Lick Pavilion. It will include bands like the BoDeans, The Gourds, the Travelin McCoury’s, The Greencards, Fred Eaglesmith, Hayes Carll, Dave Alvin And The Guilty Women, BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet, New Monsoon, and Ray Wylie Hubbar. There are also be plenty of other activities, such as music workshops, youth talent competitions, arts & crafts and camping.

17: P-Pecan Street Festival-Festival-Variety | Since the late 1970’s, the Pecan Street Festival has been bringing in tens of thousands of attendees to Austin. During the festival, 6th Street, formally known as Pecan Street, is closed off and filled with many blocks of arts, food, and music. Patrons then fill the streets to have fun and buy some things, too. You’ll spend time having fun and relaxing at downtown. There are always unique pieces of art that you won’t find anywhere else in the world!

18: Q-Texas Modern Jazz Quartet- Jazz / classical, band | Scott Joplin was ragtime's greatest composer. Joplin lived in St. Louis during 1885-93, playing in local clubs. He led a band in 1894 at the Chicago World's Fair and formed the Texas Medley Quartet. Their song, "Maple Leaf Rag", became ragtime's most popular song, selling over 75,000 copies of sheet music during its first year. TMQ soon had many other songs published, but the tragedy of Joplin’s life was that his goals were beyond ragtime. He staged a ballet and two ragtime operas, but none were successful.

19: R- William "red" Garland Solo; Jazz | William “red” Garland was a jazz pianist, and was born in Dallas on May 13, 1923. He began his musical career on the clarinet as a child and then played the saxophone in High School, though he never graduated because he joined the army during World War II. After leaving the army in 1944, he joined a band led by Buster Smith, and a year later the band was touring the southwestern and eastern United States. After the tour ended in 1946, Red Garland began playing in night clubs. He was part of one of the most exciting periods of jazz evolution. Until 1956 he continued playing in New York and Philadelphia with famous musicians. The music that the group produced in the mid-1950s began a new era of jazz.

20: S- Selena Gomez- solo; pop | Selena Gomez was an only child who grew up in Grand Prairie, Texas. She was born on July 22, 1992 and her big break as when she became an actress at seven years old, in the cast of Barney & Friends, where she met her best friend, Demi Lovato. Selena played Gianna on Barney & Friends for two seasons. Selena was discovered by Disney in a worldwide casting search in 2004. She played guest roles in popular Disney shows, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and Hannah Montana. She then was placed in her own series, Wizards of Waverly Place, in October, 2007. She was placed as the lead roll as Alex Russo. She then began to get into the music career. She performed the theme song for Wizards of Waverly Place.

21: T- "Texas our Texas"- song; folk | “Texas Our Texas” was chosen on May 23, 1929. The song was written by William J. Marsh and Gladys Yoakum Wright. It took 4 years for the State legislature to make the decision on making the song the state song. "Texas, our Texas" has been performed at State Functions, Football Games and sung by many school children. The only change that has been made to the original lyrics was to one word: Texas State song - largest - was changed to boldest when Alaska got it's statehood because it became the largest state.

22: U- Ut orchestra- band; classical | The UT Symphony Orchestra is becoming recognized as one of the top college orchestras in the U.S. They have been featured as part of The International Festival-Institute at Round Top's yearly "August to April Series." In 2009 they performed to wide audience at the Texas Music Educator's Association convention in San Antonio, Texas. Students in UTSO have the opportunity to work with professional musicians and will attend featured appearances with UT's world-renowned faculty of soloists and composers.

23: V- Vegan Carnavores Band; rock | The band Vegan Carnivores formed in Austin Texas. They consist of 3 people. Kaylin Strain as lead singer, Peyton Button on drums and Bailey Smith on guitar/bass. “Bloody Sparkles” is their first and only song so far. They have been a band since May 2011.

24: W- Willie Nelson- solo; country | Willie Nelson was born on April 30th, 1933 in Abbot, Texas. His parents divorced when he was young. He and his sister were raised in a tiny farm town with their grandparents. He gave his first public performance at four, and had his first gig at a local dance when he was ten. By high school he was playing in a band. He then joined the Air Force and attended collage afterwards. He recorded his first single in 1956, "No Place For Me", and he sold the records during his radio show in Vancouver, Washington.

25: X- King's x- venue; blues | Ted Aikman is the owner and founder of King’s X in El Paso. He founded this for the thousands of lawyers, doctors, college professors, bikers, sports fans and college students. King’s X is now celebrating its 40th anniversary with Party on the Pavement 6 on June 7th.There will be 11 bands including the Hitmen, Lowdog, the Happiness and Thieves of Always. People will also be there to sell jewelry, art, and handmade soap.It's clientele is as random as any club in El Paso. "People come in and everybody gets a good drink at a fair price. Everybody gets along. You have doctors sitting with bikers, and you have lawyers sitting with plumbers." - Aikman

26: Y- Yellow Rose of Texas song; folk | The first recorded copy of the "Yellow Rose of Texas" was written on a piece of plain paper in about 1836. The copy was probably written either shortly before or after General Sam Houston lead his brigade against the army of Santa Anna at the Battle of San Jacinto on April 21, 1836. The original writing had many spelling errors. This would indicate that the writer was not uneducated. The song's lyrics tell of an African American soldier who left his sweetheart (yellow rose") and wants to return to her side. "Yellow" was a term given to African Americans and "Rose" was a popular name for a girl at that time.

27: Z- Zilker park music festival- festival; variety | The Zilker Park Music Festival was a modest, two-day event. Now it has become an amazing musical event for everyone who lives in Austin. It has become legendary within the 9 years it has existed. It now lasts 3 days because of the many bands that perform there. It has grown to 8 stages that are for the amazing number of 130 bands that perform each time Zilker Park Music Festival comes around.
