S: Ayanna's Journey To America

FC: My Journey To America ! | By:Ayanna K. Jones | From Germany To America

1: In May of 1902 I had a chance to leave Germany and possibly never come back. Leaving my home, I felt extremely sad, yet happy because I was going with my mother, 2 brothers, sister, and nieces to meet my father who got a job offer out in America, 4 years ago. I had 1 suitcase to board on the ship with me. In the suitcase I packed 3 dresses, 4 shirts, 5 skirts, and 2 pairs of shoes and my passport of course. On the ship I got to go up on the deck sometimes, but mostly I was with my new best friend Jenny/Jennifer. I was only 14 and you had to be an adult and have money to go up on the deck. When I arrived I saw the Statue of Liberty ! I was scared because I didn't know if I was going to be able to walk up the Great Hall steps or pass the exams. The exam I was afraid that I wasn't going to pass was mostly the medical exam because earlier that day, I was feeling queasy After we were done with the exams we went tot the registry room. I met the most interesting people on this voyage. There were some homeless people, children, teenagers, and adults. There was this one girl that I met, her name was Jennifer. She approached me first. I will never forget our time that we had together. When I was finished with the exams, my family and I went to the kissing post and met my father there.
