3: John Steinbeck was born in Salinas, California, in 1902. He changed his job style many times, and some of his jobs include, filmmaker, author, experimenter, and a student of marine biology. He married three times throughout his life. John wrote a total of 27 books. He won a Nobel Prize in 1962, but later he died in 1968.
4: Setting | This story takes place in La Paz, Mexico during the 1800s. La Paz is very tropical and warm with mild winters.
5: Kino lived in a wooden hut, and had hardly any protection. The doctor, however, lived in a lavished house with servants and a gate.
6: Juana, the wife of Kino, and their baby, Coyotito. The baby was stung by a scorpion and Juanna healed him | Kino, father of Coyotito, and husband of Juana.
7: The beggars of La Paz. The 'know-it-alls" of the city. They talked more gossip about other people than anything.
8: The baby, Coyotito, was stung by a scorpion. Kino and Juana traveled to the city for help. They took the baby to see the doctor, but the racist man refused to help them. They went back home with rage and anger. | Chapter 1
9: Kino and Juana planned to go out in search of a pearl. Juana made a poultice for Coyotito's wound while Kino was setting up the canoe for the little trip. Kino found the largest pearl he had ever seen. The baby's heal had miraculously healed. | Chapter 2
10: Chapter 5 | Juana tried to steal the pearl from kino, and he caught her trying to throw the pearl in the sea. He beat her very harshly. Then Kino was attacked for the second time, and he killed the man. Then Kino and Juana ran away from La Paz before anyone found out about the dead man. They thought they must sell the pearl to get rid of the evil.
11: Chapter 6 | Kino and Juana hide from three men that are after them. The baby is mistaken as an animal and is killed from one of the watchmen. Kino finally throws the pearl back into the sea, and his family is free from the evil of the pearl. They go black to La Paz and try to live the rest of their lives without wanting more than is given.
12: The news of Kino finding the Pearl of The World was spread throughout the town. Kino pictured his family with their new life thanks to the pearl. The priest visited the family only because of his greed for money. Then the doctor came and made the baby sick so that he could revisit and "heal" the baby. Someone tried to steal the pearl, but Kino ran the person away. Juana begged Kino to throw the pearl away, but he would not. | Chapter 3
13: Kino and his family traveled to town to potentially sell his pearl for great wealth. When he tried to sell the pearl, the pearl buyers cheated him on the price. Kino left the town without selling his pearl. | Chapter 4
