4: Biological Risks | Family history You have a greater chance of developing breast cancer if someone in your family has had breast cancer. Studies show that about 5-10% of breast cancer cases are hereditary. Hormones and Menstrual History Beginning to menstruate (have periods) before age 12. Having a first baby after age 30, or never having a baby. Having a greater number of children Breastfeeding, decreasing risk the longer you breastfeed. High breast density The amount of fat in your breast tissue. Previous breast condition Having had a previous breast biopsy (a sample of tissue) showing non-cancerous, but abnormal cells.
5: Lifestyle Risks | Body weight Weight gain during adult life increases breast cancer risk. Exercise you may reduce your risk of developing breast cancer by becoming active now. Diet A poor diet may be linked to an increased risk in breast cancer. Alcohol consumption In a review of almost 100 research studies, it was concluded that women who drink alcohol are at over a 20% higher risk for breast cancer than those who do not drink. Smoking There is a link between breast cancer and tobacco smoking and breathing second-hand smoke. Environment Chemicals in our environment are increasing the risks of breast cancer for women.
6: CIGARETTE SMOKE | Cigarette smoke has high levels of cadmium & PHAs which are sources of estrogenic pollutants linked to increased risk for breast cancer. Don't Smoke. Don't be near it! | Excessive exposure to sun can cause skin cancer but sunscreens contain small amounts of chemicals that mimic estrogen as well. 7: ANTI BACTERIAL | Antibacterial products contain Triclosan, an agent that alters hormones. There is no evidence that these products clean better than soap & water... stay away from CHEMICAL products! (Bedding, Cleaners, Bandaids, Cutting Boards etc.) | Tetrachloroethylene is a chemical used in Dry Cleaning. Don't buy clothing that is Dry Clean Only or hand wash items that are instead of breathing in the fumes! | DRY CLEANING | We Live In

9: Alternatives | Some products have carcinogens & hormone disrupting chemicals that increase breast cancer risk. Use Natural Remedies instead of chemicals! | FACE MASK | 1 Tbs Heavy Cream 1 Tbs Honey 1 Tsp Baking Soda Mix Ingredients Use as face mask to leave your skin smooth and chemical FREE. | CONDITION | 1/4 cup Olive Oil 1/4 cup Mayonnaise 1 Egg Yolk Mix Ingredients Use on hair to smooth split ends, add shine & strength. | 1/2 cup Baking Soda 1/2 cup cornstarch 3 drop Lavender Oil Mix Ingredients Take a damp cloth & pat onto underarms. | DEODORANT | NEVER PUT SOMETHING ON YOUR BODY THAT YOU WOULD NOT EAT!
10: .............................................. | CHLORINE | Make Your Home | These have plenty of toxins in them that can leech through your skin or be breathed in. Use NATURAL cleaners. | CLEANERS | CLEANING RECIPES | ALL PURPOSE CLEANER 1/2 cup vinegar 1/4 cup baking soda 1/2 gallon water. AIR FRESHENER Simmer water & spices on the stove. Add lemon or orange peels for fresh scent. | Use bleach alternative products to avoid Chlorine. Look for unbleached coffee filters and organic, unbleached tampons as well.
11: Avoid plastics that contain PVC and BPA which are both toxic and can disturb hormones. Do not microwave plastics as chemicals can leak into foods. | Non-stick pans contain toxic polyfluorinated chemicals. Switching to stainless steel or cast iron cooking utensils can help prevent the chemical from being passed to foods. | NON-STICK COOKING | Risk FREE | PLASTIC
12: Don't Wear a Bra | In a study by Singer & Grismaijer in 1995, 3 out of 4 women studied who wore a bra for 24 hours a day developed breast cancer compared to 1 out of 168 who wore a bra rarely or never. Bras do NOT cause cancer but they restrict the flow of lymph within breast tissue, thereby hindering the normal cleansing process of the breast tissue. Many environmental toxins and pesticides that cause and promote cancer are "fat-loving" and so tend to reside in the breast tissue. Lymph fluid carries away waste products, dead cells, and toxins. Let the lymph fluid FLOW! | WEAR A BRA AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE
13: Pills & Supplements | Pharmaceutical residue ends up in our waterways and municipal water supplies. One thing you can do to help is take expired medications back to the pharmacy for proper disposal. If your pharmacy doesn’t have a take-back program, request that they create one. Otherwise, throw them in the garbage- do not FLUSH them! | These are 2 are PROVEN supplements in lowering the risk of Breast Cancer. VITAMIN D Cases of Breast Cancer are higher in urban and northern communities than in their sunnier counter parts. Get SUN or get a supplement. 15: Found in cigarette smoke and car exhaust, PAHs are found in the char of grilled foods. 17: Foods That Can Reduce Your Risk | A healthy diet isn't a magic bullet against cancer, but new research suggests it may help. Two studies just released by the University of California, San Diego, and the Genesis Prevention Center at University Hospital in South Manchester, England, show that a meal plan rich in fruits and veggies and low in starchy carbohydrates may help prevent breast cancer and breast cancer recurrence. | Broccoli Garlic Apples Coconut Fish Lemon | Walnuts Organic Carrots Grapefruit Green Tea Oranges
18: Exercise | Nearly 30 studies have shown that women who exercise at moderate to vigorous levels for 3 or more hours per week reduce their risk of getting breast cancer by 30% to 40%. | Exercising for 4 or more hours per week decreases hormone levels which decreases the risk. Join: Running Club Pilates, Yoga, Zumba, Spinning or simply take Fido for a vigorous walk!
19: Self Exam | The breast self-exam is a way that you can check your breasts for changes (such as lumps or thickenings). It includes looking at and feeling your breast. Any unusual changes should be reported to your doctor. When breast cancer is detected in its early stages, your chances for surviving the disease are greatly improved. | Mammogram | Women 40 years and older should get a mammogram every year. Women who have a family history of breast cancer might need to start getting mammograms before age 40. Talk to your doctor about how to perform a self-exam and when you should begin getting mammograms.
