Essential Questions | Why are Computer Networks are so important to for current society? | Because they help us connect with other parts of the world easily, exchange information and research.. We can get things instantly.
The computer network starts working at the moment that the client clicks in a link. It all occurs really fast. The client, in this case the student is using the node and wants to print his edline report. | The Client
When the student requests the data, it gets out of the computer through the Network Interface Card (NIC) | Network Interface Card
The information goes through the UTP cable. This cable gives the signal to the computer. The UTP cable goes to the Switch, which is the next place in the tour. | UTP Cable
Computer Network Switch | There is a big switch in the library in which all the UTP cables from the computers arrive. The information is sent through the switch to go to another cable.
The Optic Cable is the one that connects buildings. In this situation the Optic Cable connects the Library building to the building in which The Site is found. Lets go and take a watch. | Optic Cable
The Site | The Site is the place in which all the information that the optic cables bring arrives. The Site is usually found in the center of the building or the mid-point of them. Here we can find things such as the fire wall and the proxy server. The Proxy Server is our next stop in the tour.
The Proxy Server | The Proxy lessens the load of the Internet connection and is used for security reasons as well. It accepts which addresses can pass in order for them to go to the Internet. The address that the client request is acceptable and goes to the Web Server.
From the site, the info passes to the router. This one reads the address and if necessary leaves it into another network. It sorts of controls the "Highway" of the information that is passing. From the router, the address is launched into the LAN and to the WAN. | The Router
The most popular type of Wide Area Network (WAN) is know as www. This means WORLD WIDE WEB. The requested information of the student comes in here and then goes to the Web Server. | WAN
The Web Server is the one that returns the requested information to the client, in this case edline web server. The Student can now see his report in his computer and he can now print it. | Web Server
Since the student is on the library, all of the computers are connected to a Printer Server. The printer server is the school's copy server. He prints his edline report and heads to the copy center to pick it up. | Printer Server
 We now finalize our tour.
