12: Dear, Mom and Dad Today was our first day in the Dominican Republic. We had just landed at the San Juan airport where we saw probably one of the greatest view s that I have ever seen, beautiful white sand and the bluest sky mom I’m telling you you would have loved it. We really didn’t have a lot of time to actually enjoy the scene because we had to get to Bonao a city which is located right smack in the middle of the Dominican Republic. I didn’t argue because my Spanish wasn’t as good as I thought it was, as I could barley understand what they were saying. It was a quick ride mom like it was about a four hour drive but it did not seem that long. I guess it was because of all the animals that I have seen like our guide must have pointed out six endangered animals there were at least three birds I forget what the guide called them but I knew the other three animals they were the Jaragua Sphaero, the Hispainolan Hutia, and last the American Crocodile. Mom It was pretty interesting to actually see the animals in their natural habitat. I asked the driver once we got to Bonao why there were so many endangered animals, and he said that there’s a great deal of water pollution from the local mines, industries, and agriculture sources. Mom this isn’t right not just animals are suffering but people are to. We unpacked and then went out and about in search of food there wasn’t that many choices but we managed to find something close by. You do not know how much trouble this little country is in, they are having trouble with soil erosion from farmers farming too much and now the eroding soil is entering the sea and onto the coral reefs which is disrupting the life cycle, of the sea turtles and other fish. I hope everything is going ok back at home but I miss you guys but I’ll send another letter next week. Sincerely, Bobby

13: Dear, Mom and Dad Hey it’s me again I just wanted to let u know that I ran into some trouble the other day, me and the other missioners went to go help out a local village and we were walking back and we made a wrong turn and instead of making a right we made a left. It wasn’t a good thing; being lost in the Dominican Republic is not a good. I really had no idea what to do, but Ryan said that if we cut through the jungle we would eventually return to camp. I should have never followed but I did and we wounded up lost in the jungle of Santiago it was pretty neat with all the different vegetation; it reminded me of Discovery Cove in Florida, but anyway the good thing about getting lost was the fact that we saw most of the endangered animals close and personal. Walking through the jungle through the wet thickets and seeing the thousands of birds in the canopies was just an amazing experience. Ryan was wrong we didn’t get back to camp luckily though we arrived at a local town where we could sleep but it wasn’t that homey as we slept on the ground with the chickens. I didn’t expect them to give us any food, but they did we didn’t except the food it was just the point that they would offer food to strangers when they barley have enough food to survive. Sincerely, Bobby

14: Dear, Mom and Dad This will be the last letter mom and dad, I’m coming home. I don’t think I told you but after the towns people offered us their food we thought it was time to leave once we left it was a matter of seconds until we arrived at another town. This town was the exact opposite of the one that was maybe three hundred yards away something seemed really fishy. As we approached threw the thicket we saw the huge towers and gardens behind the massive houses that were flourished with vegetables and fruits. Something was up how is it that a town that is three hundred yards away is flourishing and not struggling at all with food and money. I started walking towards the town when we heard shots coming from one of the nearest houses, and soon after three guys carried a body out. I didn’t know what to do mom so I quick went into the jungle as they took him out others followed with pounds and pounds of cocaine and marijuana. This wasn’t a normal town this was a town for drug traffickers, or a pit stop for their journey to the states. I didn’t think I would have found this in the Dominican Republic but evidently it’s a pretty big problem , but we soon left and started searching for our lost campsite. Sincerely, Bobby
