The World in Spatial Terms There was a little bear that was really hungry and he wanted to eat some honey. The rest of his family was already at the dinner table in their cave. The little bear was walking outside while his mom was fixing the honey and he got lost. While he was walking around trying to find his way back, he ran into his friend the raccoon. Raccoon knew how to get back to the little bears house. He gave him the directions to get back. They were to go on the trail across the creek and over the hill and his cave was at the bottom of the hill. So the little bear got to go home and eat. When the raccoon gave the little bear directions to get him back home, that was an example of using spatial terms.

Places and Regions One day the little bear went to go see his grandma and grandpa. They lived in a different state. They were in a different region or place than the little bear was in. So it took a long time to get to his grandma and grandpa's house. He even had to get directions a few times to get there. When he got there he realized that his grandma and grandpa spoke a little different and did some things different than he did back at home. So did the other people where his grandma and grandpa lived. This is because they lived in different regions and places. People from different regions do things different. This is good because you can learn from others.
 People from around the world
Physical Systems Little Bear always checks the weather before he goes out and plays. This is because he doesn't want to get caught in a bad storm. He wants to go out and play in good weather. What the weather is like in different places, such as wearing away parts of the earth like rocks, and earthquakes, shape the pattern of the earth. This means that it makes all of the different things that the earth has. Like little bear's cave is part of one of the patterns of the earth.
This would be the bad weather that little bear does not want to go out and play in. | This is the good weather that little bear likes to go out and play in.
Human Systems Father bear has a work cell phone that he uses. Father bear and his work talking to each other about how to make the world we live in better make up a small part of the people trying to help make the world a better place. All kinds of people work together for doing their part in helping the world. You are learning to help the world by learning in school just like little bear does too.
These are all examples of things that help the world
Environment and Society Little bear and all the other students at his school are having a recycling bin in each classroom. They are doing it because little bear and the others do not want all the places outside polluted. This means little bear does not want the places like the woods were he lives full of trash. If you recycle you can help not pollute the environment. When you recycle, they reuse your trash or things you don't want instead of putting it in places called land fills. We need to recycle more because we don't want the earth to be full of trash outside.

The Uses of Geography Little bear learns geography every day in class. He is glad that he learns it too because he uses it every day in life already. Also, he knows he will need it later on in life when he gets older. He knows he will need to know it for his job so he can make a better future for people and know how to take care of the earth.
