Chris Nelson's Interview Question 1: Of the four parenting styles which include authoritarian, democratic, permissive, and uninvolved which parenting style did your parents use growing up; and what is one personal example of this parenting style you remember? (3.3) Answer: My parents used the democratic parenting method. We always had family meetings about issues that involved the whole family. Whenever something good or bad happened, my parents would always ask my sister and me what we thought about it and what we thought should be done in handling it. Question 2: When you were in high school what kinds of peer pressure did you experience? What do you think has changed since then for kids in high school now? Answer In high school, there is a lot of peer pressure. Sex, drugs, alcohol, and the need to look perfect are just a few things teens these days deal with. I think now days the pressure is much more intense and it starts at a much younger age. It seems to affect high school kids much more than it used to because they go to great lengths to fit in. Question 3: About 90% of adults in the United States will marry at sometime in their lives. Are you married, divorced, or remarried? 40 % to 60% of new marriages end in divorce. Why do you think that is? Answer I am not married. It is shocking to know that many new marriages end in divorce. I think it is because you couples get pregnant and end up getting married for all the wrong reasons. Another possibility is because people are selfish by nature. Since marriage has set certain boundaries, selflessness being one of them, it goes against a natural human characteristic. Question 4: Some changes we see associated with growing older are the results of the natural processes of aging. Good health reflects a life of making choices which involve exercising, avoid smoking, drugs and alcohol. Do you exercise and make healthy choices? Why have you made the choices you have? Answer I go to the gym regularly and make healthy eating choices because I think it is important to be healthy on the inside and out. I have avoided smoking and drinking because that can lead to various health problems that I do not wish to deal with.

Question 5: Motivation is an internal state that activates behavior and directs it toward a goal. How do you motivate yourself to achieve certain goals? Answer I motivate myself to achieve certain goals by talking to my family. They always support me so it helps to know that they will always be there no matter what. Another thing that helps motivate me is knowing that how good my life will be once I achieve that goal. Question 6: All emotions help us to make decisions in life. The emotion indicates our ability to make that decision. How do you feel when you have to make a decision you are uncomfortable with? (12.3) Answer When I am forced to make a decision that I am uncomfortable with I get anxious and stressed out. It sometimes can affect my ability to make the right choice because I get so worried. Most of the time, after making an uncomfortable decision I feel like a stronger person because of what I have overcame. Question 7: Stress affects all humans, our lives revolve around stress. Stress also has positive affects to spur us on and to achieve our goals or negative stress which impacts the body and causes illness. How do you cope with stress? Do you evaluate the situation calmly and rationalize the situation or are you reactive and impulsive reacting without thinking things through? (15-1) Answer When I experience stress, I usually try to calm down and tell myself, "Why are you stressing? It's not worth it." It usually calms me down because stress can cause problems mentally and sometimes even physically and I do not need to deal with that. I used to react without thinking but now I try to think things through before overreacting. Question 8: Coping With Stress is the key to a healthy life free from illness. If we can learn to cope effectively with stress we find that our lives are more manageable and less anxious. Everyone copes differently with stress. There are many factors involved in coping with stress, emotions, personality, upbringing, temperament. How do you cope with stress? Do you take time to put the stressful situation in perspective; do you blow it out of proportion so you worry needlessly? Do you take the time to do activities to de-stress? (15.3) Answer Whenever I am feeling overly stressed, I take a break from the situation to do something like hang out with friends or go to the beach and then revisit the issue. By doing this, it helps me be level headed and be able to think clearly. De-stressing is important because it keeps you happy and healthy. Question 9: Conformity and obedience are terms we are all used to. We are conditioned from infancy to obey our parents, teachers and eventually our employers and leaders, including World leaders. How do you feel about conforming to something you do not feel comfortable with? Answer I usually don't conform to something I am uncomfortable with because I feel strongly that you know right from wrong. If an authoritative figure wants me to do something I know is wrong I won't do it. Question 10: Environmental Pyschology/Ecoliteracy: How much time did you spend out doors in your youth? Provide examples of your interactions with the natural world around you growing up? Answer As I was growing up I actually loved to play outside with my friends. Climbing the hill behind our houses and exploring and just being a kid.

Jasleen's Interview Question 1: Of the four parenting styles which include authoritarian, democratic, permissive, and uninvolved which parenting style did your parents use growing up; and what is one personal example of this parenting style you remember? (3.3) Answer When growing up I remember my parents used the uninvolved parenting style with me. An example that would fit the situation is not going to school nights and being involved in my education. There was no guidance given to me, I just grew up and had to figure things out on my own. Question 2: When you were in high school what kinds of peer pressure did you experience? What do you think has changed since then for kids in high school now? Answer When I was growing up I experienced peer pressure concerning the use of drugs. Luckily for me I had enough sense not to get involved in drugs. I think kids experience this today so as far as changes in today’s kids there is more pressure on kids than ever before to fitting in. They seem to think if they take drugs they will be more accepted. Question 3: About 90% of adults in the United States will marry at sometime in their lives. Are you married, divorced, or remarried? 40 % to 60% of new marriages end in divorce. Why do you think that is? Answer I am remarried, my first marriage in the typical first 5 years. I married at age 22 and of course in my opinion that is too young. Another reason is people do not marry for the right reasons. Being in love is not the only ingredient to a successful marriage. Look at all the Indian families that have arranged marriages such as my aunts, uncles and cousins. Most of them had help in having a mate chosen for them and most all are happily married. Question 4: Some changes we see associated with growing older are the results of the natural processes of aging. Good health reflects a life of making choices which involve exercising, avoid smoking, drugs and alcohol. Do you exercise and make healthy choices? Why have you made the choices you have? Answer I am nearly 50 years old and have been told I look at least 10 years younger. I attribute this to my combination of my habit of Yoga and gym work outs. I have never smoked or drank and get plenty of sleep. I am sure this has a lot to do with my excellent health. Question 5: Motivation is an internal state that activates behavior and directs it toward a goal. How do you motivate yourself to achieve certain goals? Answer Trust me I am motivated now being nearly 50 with retirement on the Horizon. I think age is motivating me more than ever. Every day has to be productive towards my retirement goal.

Question 6: All emotions help us to make decisions in life. The emotion indicates our ability to make that decision. How do you feel when you have to make a decision you are uncomfortable with? (12.3) Answer I think emotions are our gut feelings. If you listen to that emotion it is helping you make a decision. That is best for you. Of course you must also make a logical list since emotions are not always accurate. (15-1) Answer I used to react to the stress factor in making decisions. I no longer do this any more since I have realized the stress level is not worth it. I rationally make decisions now, if I find it stresses me out I find an alternative route. (15.3) Answer I used to blow everything out of proportion now I do not. I also feel my Hatha Yoga has kept me calm and I listen to my body’s reaction to something uncomfortable and realize if I cope with the situation in a stressful manner and do extra activities to calm myself I have no issues with stress. We can not escape stress all the time so I have felt the need and asked my Doctor for something to help me along. At a certain point in ones life hormones do take over and need to be corrected so you can make logical decisions. Question 9: Conformity and obedience are terms we are all used to. We are conditioned from infancy to obey our parents, teachers and eventually our employers and leaders, including World leaders. How do you feel about conforming to something you do not feel comfortable with? Answer I personally do not feel comfortable with the decisions being made in Congress that imp-act peoples lives on a daily basis. I feel helpless and uncomfortable with some of the decisions being made by leaders. I also understand it is not a perfect world and that we have it better than some people do. Question 10: Environmental Pyschology/Ecoliteracy: How much time did you spend out doors in your youth? Provide examples of your interactions with the natural world around you growing up? Answer When I was young we always were out doors doing activities and playing. I used to spend hours in the park almost everyday. Back then kids could be out unsupervised but I feel now as long as the parents are close by keeping an eye on things youths need to be out using up that extra energy. I feel we would not have so much obesity if kids were out playing. I am glad we cut off our cable TV. We have not watched TV in our home for 3 years. It was the best thing we ever did for our family. All TV does is brain wash you!

Grandpa's Interview Question 1: Of the four parenting styles which include authoritarian, democratic, permissive, and uninvolved which parenting style did your parents use growing up; and what is one personal example of this parenting style you remember? (3.3) Answer My parents were very authoritarian, coming from an Indian family. I had to be a straight A student and had to study for hours. They did this to help me in the future, I thank them for raising me this way. It helped me get a well paying job and a great family. Question 2: When you were in high school what kinds of peer pressure did you experience? What do you think has changed since then for kids in high school now? Answer When I was in high school their wasn't too much peer pressure going on, now days so many children seemed to be pressured into drug use to fit in and get along with the other kids. It's sad really. Question 3: About 90% of adults in the United States will marry at sometime in their lives. Are you married, divorced, or remarried? 40 % to 60% of new marriages end in divorce. Why do you think that is? I am married. My parents arranged me a wife and it was a great idea, we get along, love each other and most important of all we are a great team. I think new marriages are not as strong because people seem to marry to soon or for the wrong reasons. Question 4: Some changes we see associated with growing older are the results of the natural processes of aging. Good health reflects a life of making choices which involve exercising, avoid smoking, drugs and alcohol. Do you exercise and make healthy choices? Why have you made the choices you have? I am 79 years old and still running around. I do my best to eat healthy and I walk around everywhere for good cardio excersize. I make the choice I do to live the longest life possible! Question 5: Motivation is an internal state that activates behavior and directs it toward a goal. How do you motivate yourself to achieve certain goals? Answer I motivate myself to do something by seeing why it will benefit me. This usually has a great affect. Question 6: All emotions help us to make decisions in life. The emotion indicates our ability to make that decision. How do you feel when you have to make a decision you are uncomfortable with? (12.3) Well I stress if its a great deal of a decision, I possibly sleep over it, or Ill discuss it with someone to help me get through the decision.

(15-1) Answer When I stress I cope with it by doing something I like or relaxing. I usually am lax when I am in a stressful situation because after years of experience, I have realized that stress only harms you and is not worth it. (15.3) Answer Yes, as I stated earlier I do activities to de-stress such as work on my classic cars or grab a coffee at the beach with my wife. This two things really help me with coping with my stress. I always make time to but stressful situations into perspective, I almost never worry endlessly. Question 9: Conformity and obedience are terms we are all used to. We are conditioned from infancy to obey our parents, teachers and eventually our employers and leaders, including World leaders. How do you feel about conforming to something you do not feel comfortable with? Answer I would feel very uncomfortable since it seems I would have no choice, but to conform. Hopefully nothing will ever come to that. Question 10: Environmental Pyschology/Ecoliteracy: How much time did you spend out doors in your youth? Provide examples of your interactions with the natural world around you growing up? Answer I grew up in India so every activity I did was out door. I had a lot of friends and we would play in the market area and play with the animals that were in the streets. Their was barely any technology and almost no cars anywhere so it was a pretty safe environment.
