Hi I'm Jem. I like to go on adventures with my sister Scout and my friend Dill. We always find something fun to do during the long summer days. Everything we do is outside. I'm the leader in the group cuz I'm the oldest, and the two of 'em need someone to look up to.
One time we tried to get a look at Boo Radley and my pants ended up gettin torn off by his fence when his dad heard us. He fired off a few rounds, but we got outta there. When Atticus asked me where my pants went, I told him we was playin strip poker. I doubt he believed me though.
Scout is my little sister who tags along for everything. I can't go no where without her taggin' along. She speaks her mind even if nobody wanna hear it. No one is gonna stop Scout from speakin' her mind cuz she got a lot to say about everything.
Atticus is my well known daddy. He defended Tom Robinson in a case my daddy should have won, but our town just didn't know what they was talkin' 'bout. Everybody loves my dad except for Mr. Ewell; who is a man that shouldn't have spitted on my daddy. My dad is a good man and a smart man too.
I was hurt real bad, so bad I never got to meet Boo. I still wonder how he could have saved us. | One night Scout and I was walkin' home when Mr. Ewell came up and attacked us. I was beaten down, but some strange man to me at the time came up and saved me and Scout's lives. I found out that is was the one man I have never seen, Boo Radley.
My daddy, Atticus defended Tom Robinson. I knew what my daddy was saying was right and that all the other men were just stupid and stubborn. I can't believe my daddy lost that case. I was so mad that I yelled the whole way home, but after my daddy talked to me about how people see things differently than our family does.
When the summer started we saw that things were being placed in Boo Radley's tree outside of his house. One of the things we found in the tree was two wax figures of both me and Scout. We had found other things but these two things were the last things found, but made it clear he was leavin' things in there for us
One of the first things found was a stick of gum. Scout had found it in Boo's tree and started chewin' it. Once I got home I asked her where she had gotten it. Scout said it was from the tree out there in front of the Radley's. I yelled at her and made her spit it out! I thought Boo had done something to the stick. Turns out he was just bein' nice to us.
"If there's just one kind of folks, why can't they get along with each other? If they're all alike, why do they go out of their way to despise each other? Scout, I think I'm beginning to understand something. I think I'm beginning to understand why Boo Radley's stayed shut up in the house all this time. It's because he wants to stay inside" (Lee 304). This quote makes me think that Jem finally relaizes that not all people are going to be nice to one another like in Tom Robinson's case.
