 Where I'm From
I am from devotionals, from Hershey's kisses and Yankee candles. I am from the smell of grass, earthy, natural, prickly. I am from sleeping in the den on the weekends and olive green eyes, from Enoch and Collins and Snyder. I am from the athletes and Jesus freaks. From patience and determination. I am from a Southern Baptist Church, getting involved every chance I get. I'm from South Carolina, casseroles, and sweet potatoes. From the cookie I shoved into my daddy's eye, the motions my mom and I learn every year for VBS, and the sermons I hear every Sunday morning and night. I am from scrapbooking with my mom and taking photos every day. From the frames lining our den and the albums on every book shelf. That is where I am from.
She stands there The oven warming And the broccoli steaming Readying them for the road to come Timer running Bubbles boiling Smells soaring through the air Waiting ‘till the temperature's right Among all the commotion Of the pots and pans The mixing of the ingredients And the pounding of the meats She starts to create a work of art And as my mother is in her kitchen Doing what she loves All she thinks of is the products And how they will please her family
 My Mother's Kitchen
You're growing up so fast Mature beyond your years Yet everyday God reminds me Of why he gave me you You are like me in so many ways Face, mind, and determination But what amazes me the most Is how God gave me you From the first moment I held you I knew you were something special And now look at how much joy You've brought me and your dad From basketball to softball From engineering to language arts You've brought us noting but happiness But the one thing that makes us most happy Is that you love the Lord Every day you look for ways for him to be known Whether it's reminding me of his grace Or showing his love to your friends The fact that you have such a deep passion Fills my heart with the feeling of delight
 Mother to Daughter
O GSMST, how amazing are the classes you offer From the sciences to the arts You overwhelm us with your challenge O GSMST, the hours of homework each night is just a token of love for you Not to mention the studying put forth O GSMST, the lockers the neither open nor shut Never bother me Because it's worth the extra effort O GSMST, the dreaded passoffs each week Never slow me down For I know I have another week to change my luck around O GSMST, my love for you is overflowing Even though it's tough to face each day Somehow I still come crawling back
 Ode to GSMST
 LA Limerick
With every essay that's been assigned There is always something wrong with the lines Those Greek roots Made me turn alley-oops But of course I will never be so divined
The stars lean down to kiss you And I lie awake and miss you Pour me a heavy dose of atmosphere Cause I'll doze off safe and soundly But I'll miss your arms around me I'd send a postcard to you, dear Cause I wish you were here I'll watch the night turn light blue But it's not the same without you Because it takes two to whisper quietly The silence isn't so bad Till I look at my hands and feel sad Cause the spaces between my fingers Are right where yours fit perfectly I'll find repose in new ways Though I haven't slept in two days Cause cold nostalgia chills me to the bone But drenched in vanilla twilight I'll sit on the front porch all night Waist deep in thought because when I think of you I don't feel so alone | I don't feel so alone I don't feel so alone As many times as I blink I'll think of you tonight (Tonight, tonight, tonight...) I'll think of you tonight When violet eyes get brighter And heavy wings grow lighter I'll taste the sky and feel alive again And I'll forget the world that I knew But I swear I won't forget you Oh if my voice could reach back through the past I'd whisper in your ear: "Oh darling I wish you were here"

There Will Come Soft Rains By: Sara Teasdale
There will come soft rains and the smell of the ground, And swallows circling with their shimmering sound; And frogs in the pool singing at night, And wild plum trees in tremulous white; Robins will wear their feathery fire, Whistling their whims on a low fence-wire; And not one will know of the war, not one Will care at last when it is done. Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree, If mankind perished utterly; And Spring herself when she woke at dawn Would scarcely know that we were gone.
