FC: A Knight's Letters
Dear father, Today I got to uncle's palace, it was extraordinary. He described what a page boy was. He said "you will learn manners, singing, dancing and how to play chess. Also, you would learn to hold a sword and shield correctly. Although you are my nephew there is no sweet life, there are other boys here and you are just another page here." I think that being a page is pretty interesting.
Dear Mother, Today we learned the first rules of chess and how to properly hold a sword and shield. Also today, I was caught in the area where the knights keep their armor, the armor is very heavy. I was told it weights up to 70 pounds. I had a hard time lifting it on myself.
Dear father Today is my 14th birthday and I become a squire. I was told that I would go into battle with my master. He said we would be a assigned to a knight to serve him. I had to clean his armor and care for his horse called Stallion. I would be taught fighting skills in return for the help I gave him. I got to meet him today and he is a nice person. He had shown me the stables where they kept the horses and traveling horses for the trips they take on them. | He also told me that he would teach me to keep a certain amount of land in order and to keep the serfs in line. Also he told me if I was a descendant of lord which I am I will be able to own a castle and own my own land inherited from the lord. That will be the day.
Dear father today I train to go to battle because the viking are coming and we must prepare. I was told that I must go into battle and fight for my lord to protect the villagers from the barbaric vikings. I was told while training that the viking have small round shields and are very hard so you have to hit somewhere around the shield. I was given a different type of armor that has silver spurs to distinguish me from the other | knights.
Dear farther Today was the day that the king comes to castle to tell us what we are going to do against the viking attacks. bye the way I learned the code of chivalry I forgot to tell you that in my last letter. I was also told that soon it will be my turn to become a knight. My master had said that he would be taking me to some land he own given to him by the lord. When I got there I never seen people work so hard for a living he called them serfs. they were funny looking covered in dirt and muck. | Then he showed me the wheat and grain that they harvest for him and the lord. then he said how the chain of command works that the king is at the top then the lord then the knights and finally the serfs and peasants.
Dear Mother, Today we learned to clean armor properly because one of my friends had made a big scratch on the chest plate of the armor. Also today we got to see a pair of knights jousting then we had a chance to try it. It hurt a lot. Uncle told me that I soon will become a knight. Also that I almost was complete with training | Also today we were told that the vikings were going to attack the castle. So we got our armor it was hard to walk in it. Also I got to get a stallion from uncle it is a very powerful horse.
Dear Father, today the rest of the lords and their army showed up for the battle because the vikings we were told were here to take the crown from the king. this would be the biggest battle of this time. We must be the best we could. Today is the day before my 18th birth day which means I will be a knight tomorrow.
Dear father Today is the day I become a knight. I can not believe you and mom cannot make it to my ceremony, any way the king comes today to knight me. It is a very big ceremony and I am a little nerves about it. Luckily I have only a few things to say. Also I get my own sword, armor, and horse because tomorrow we battle the vikings. I can't wait. We have people setting up camp now. I get a mace and war hammer to ride my horse and a sword for foot.
Dear Mother and Father This may be the last time I speak to you. So I must tell you that I love you and please pray for me while I am in battle so far we are just able to get by. I only have this time to talk to you_____________________________________________________
