1: jamestown | Jamestown was the first permanent settlement in America. It was Established in Virginia as “James Fort” on May 14,1607. Established by English settlers who were helped by Native Americans
2: French & Indian war Washington was a large part of this war and was hoping to make a good impression on the British who he fought along with against the Indians. This war was part of a long lasting struggle between Great Britain and France. After this war, Great Britain controlled a vastly expanded American empire. After the war, the British taxed the colonies heavily due to the costs of this war.

4: declaration of independence | The Declaration of Independence declared that the colonies were now free from British rule and had a list of reasons why they needed to be independent. The main writer of this document was our very own Thomas Jefferson and this document led to a war between America and Great Britain. A lot of important people signed it like John Handcock, Benjamin Franklin, and John Adams
5: american revolution | This war was fought for the colonists to be free and be able to govern themselves instead of being controlled by the British. The Americans were not as well armed as the British, but they still ended up winning with help from France and Spain. The Americans used guerilla warfare to beat their enemies and it had good results.
6: articles of confederation | The Articles of Confederation was the first American government. It was not very strong because of their inability to tax people. They were eventually due for revision and just gotten rid of due to Shay’s Rebellion. This was our nation’s First constitution.
7: shay's rebellion | Shay’s Rebellion was a farmer’s rebellion due to the taking of their farms. They did a lot of damage because the government did not have an army. Shay’s Rebellion showed how weak the central government was.
8: constitution | The Constitution is the law of the land. It is our form of government and was mostly written by James Madison. Under the Constitution, we had a stronger central government. Changes in the Constitution are called amendments.
9: civil war | The Civil War was fought between the Confederates and the Union. It was the bloodiest war in our nation’s history. The Civil War decided if the nation would be united and if slavery would exist in the U.S.
10: industrial revolution | The Industrial Revolution began monopolies and sometimes hurt free enterprise. The Industrial Revolution began because our technology became advanced. This revolution started interchangeable parts and assembly lines.
