FC: Lateran One
1: The Council of Lateran One took place in 1123 A.D in the Lateran Palace in Rome.
2: Pope Callistus II, Bishops, Abbots, and religious (numbering to at least 300) were all present during this council.
3: They discussed issues between the church and the government. The council also proclaimed canons relating to the reform of church and the control of ecclesiastical abuses.
4: There were 22 canons stated at this council. These canons focused on church discipline and made plans to recover the Holy Lands from the Muslims.
5: Canon 3: Forbids priests, deacons, Sub-deacons, and monks to marry. Canon 5: Marriages between blood-relatives are forbidden. Canon 9: Those excommunicated by one bishop, may not be restored by others. Canon 14: Laymen are absolutely forbidden to remove offerings from the altars of Roman Churches. | Canons
