1: INDEX | might | must | can | could | shall | should | have to | ought to | will | would | may
2: CAN | indicates a possibility or capacity | is used in questions to require permission or to ask about a possibility | Wild animals can be dangerous. | Who can answer the next question?
3: COULD | indicates a possibility or capacity in the past | When I was young, I could run very fast. | it is used for speculating in future possibilities | It could rain tonight.
4: MAY | SYNONIMS | It is possible replacing may or can in the questions of ye or no | I may / might go to the park, or I may / might stay home. | May / Can we have some more water, please?
5: MIGHT | It is possible to replace may with can when giving instructions or a requirement | They indicate an action that could happen in the future | You may / can now board the airplane.
6: SHALL | These modals plus the principal verb forms the future time and indicate an intention or action that will happen in the future | There is no difference in using these modals in affirmations | I shall close the door for you.
7: WILL | In informative question s these are used to no data or options | it is used to request information and favors | Will you be finished soon?
8: SHOULD | Both indicate an obligation, which are not true | Should he call her? | in questions should is used to know if an obligation exists
9: SYNONIMS | OUGHT TO | You should / ought to call your mother | I should / ought to go home now.
10: MUST | Indicates an obligation, probabilities or assumptions | It can be used for rhetorical questions | You must see this movie.
11: WOULD | Would plus like indicates a preference and requests a decision | It introduces usual actions of the past | Would you like soup or salad with your meal?
