Learning about My 5 Senses Kindergarten Jasmyn Denton LIS 120

My five senses tell me about the world I live in. They can help me know if something is sweet or bitter, soft or hard, loud or quiet. They give me clues about what I experience. My five senses are smell, taste, touch, sight, and hearing.

I CAN SMELL with my NOSE

Sometimes we smell things that make us cover our noses. We don't want to smell it at all | Sometimes we smell things that smell nice. We want to smell these things over and over again.

What do you like to smell? What do you NOT like to smell?

Some things taste sweet. | Some things taste salty. | Some things taste sour. | Some things taste bitter.

How do these things taste? Sweet? Salty? Sour? Bitter?

I CAN TOUCH with my HANDS

Some things feel hard. | Some things feel soft. | Some things feel smooth. | Some things feel rough. | Some things feel hot. | Some things feel cold.

How do these things feel to you? Can they feel more than one way?

I can SEE with my EYES.

Our sense of sight helps us all the time. Can you imagine walking around wearing blindfold for a day? Our sight helps us to walk, keep our balance, stay in safe areas. and see our beautiful world.

We use our eyes to see many things. What do you see in the pictures? How would a person who cannot see use their other senses to do things like read or cross a busy street?

A seeing eye dog helps people who are blind walk across busy streets. | We use our sight to read our books, computers, and phones. | Braille is the way people who are blind read. Braille is read with a person's fingers. | We use our sight to see colors. What colors do you see?

I can HEAR with my EARS.

Sometimes, we like listening to things so that others won't be disturbed. We can use headphones to keep sound to ourselves. | If a person has difficultly hearing, he or she might wear a hearing aid. Do you know anyone who wears a hearing aid?

What kinds of sounds do these things make? Do you like these sounds? Where can you hear these sounds?

Use your five senses to describe these things.
