1: Information about Nut Allergy Nutrition Nuts in general are very nutritious, providing protein and many essential vitamins, such as A and E, minerals, such as phosphorous and potassium, and fibre. Nuts are also high in carbohydrate and oils, so shouldn't be eaten in excess. There are different kinds of nuts, which are as follow: Almonds Brazils Cashews Chestnuts Coconuts Hazels Macadamia Nuts Peanuts Pecans Pine Nuts Pistachios Walnuts

2: How to treat Nut reaction/attack Here are the steps you need to take if you or someone you know has a nut allergy reaction. Get to an emergency room for treatment as soon as it becomes apparent that an allergic reaction to nuts is developing. A doctor will immediately give an injection of adrenaline which most often quickly eliminates the signs and symptoms of even a severe nut allergy. Talk to your doctor about injectable epinephrine if you suffer from a severe nut allergy. Injectable epinephrine can be carried with you at all times,

3: Tips & Warnings Remember that prevention is the best medicine, as a severe nut allergy is potentially fatal, particularly if it triggers anaphylactic shock. When ordering food at restaurants, be sure to inform your waiter of your allergy so that you food can be prepared apart from other items which may contain nuts. Check the ingredients list first. After checking the ingredients list, look on the label for phrases like these: * "may contain nuts" * "produced on shared equipment with nuts or peanuts" * produced in a facility that also processes nuts"

4: Allergic reactions are often caused by eating unlabeled foods, by not checking food labels properly for presence of nuts, or from foods which contain hidden unlabeled nuts. Nuts may be used in many of the foods that people like to eat. The most common types of foods causing allergic reaction due to nuts are chocolates, cookies, candies, granola bars,ice cream, cereal, muesli, popcorn and specialty cheese spreads - gianduja (chocolate and chopped toasted nuts) - specialty, coffees, liqueurs -small

5: These are some of the products that may contain nuts in the ingredients: - Suntan lotion, shampoo, nut shells, bath oils -Animal food e.g., hamster, gerbil after 1 or 2 years * Peanuts and Tree Nuts have varied age recommendations for introduction. Typical ages for introduction are: After One (1) Year for the Non Food Sensitive/Non-Allergic Child; Peanut Butter After 1 or 2 After Tow years Tree (Also may cause a choking hazard) Some Medical Authorities suggest holding off Peanuts and Tree Nuts until after Seven (7) Years old. You should introduce these items with the consultation and recommendation of your baby's Pediatrician.

8: Information about Nut allergy/ reaction Allergic reactions are severe adverse reactions that occur when the body’s immune system overreacts to a particular allergen. Reactions to foods, like peanuts and tree nuts, can be different. It all depends on the person and sometimes the same person can react differently at different times. Some reactions can be very mild and involve only one system of the body, like hives on the skin. Other reactions can be more severe and involve more than one part of the body. Most reactions last less than a day and affect any of these four body systems:

9: Skin: Skin reactions are the most common type of food allergy reactions. They can take the form of itchy, red, bumpy rashes (hives), eczema, or redness and swelling around the mouth or face. Gastrointestinal system: Symptoms can take the form of belly cramps, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. Respiratory system: Symptoms can range from a runny or stuffy nose, itchy, watery eyes, and sneezing to the triggering of asthma with coughing and wheezing. Cardiovascular system: A person may feel lightheaded or faint.
