Dedicated to the writers and artists who have shared their writing with their teacher and their classmates this year. May you continue to create and express yourself long after we have parted. Thank you for sharing your life with me for this short while.

Yellow By: David Becker Yellow is graceful, happy, warm, and bright, Yellow is often the color you see in light, Yellow is a color that can help your sight, Yellow is very bright, you wouldn't see it in the Darknight. Why is yellow so yellow, it's also very mello like jello. My mom always said that i'm a good fellow, because I liked yellow. Sometimes I walk up to a random person and say hello. When I get hurt I bellow, then go in and eat yellow jello. I like Yellow. | Flash Fiction By: David Becker One day there was an old evil-stepmother. She went to the hair salon every Tuesday. Today is Tuesday. The people that worked at the hair salon hated her. They heard stories of her torturing beanie babies, and forcing kids to listen to 70's and below music. So they then got a poisinous apple from the Wicked Witch of the West and gave it to the evil-stepmother, the stepmother ate the apple and died on the hair salon floor. Then they threw her body into the trash can behind the salon, and acted as if nothing ever happened.

Where We Are From by Karen Long We are from an old brick farm house where laundry dried as it danced in the wind on the line while we spun on our roller skates in the garage or sailed off on our bikes through the grass. We are from driveway rocks that sparkle when we smashed them in half (diamonds glistening in the hot afternoon sun). From a locked screen door and the dew that still wet the grass in the early morning light. We are from mulberries that squished onto the bottoms of our tennis shoes and the grass stains that covered their tips. From marigolds and geraniums planted prinear every summer by Mom and pickles made by Dad in the hot kitchen one summer, with mustard seeds from the field beside our house. We are from homemade Christmas fudge squares placed carefully in tins and Spring lilac bouquets wrapped in wet paper towels and shiny silver foil. From dancing and singing On the Good Ship Lollipop as we waited at the end of the driveway for the school bus to come. From Raggedy Ann and Holly Hobby and Winnie the Pooh and From Dumler and Urban. We are from hand-be-downs from cousins and presents under the tree left by Santa while we were gone. We are from save your money and vote right. From do as I say and not as I do and stay away from each other. From scotch and water kisses and shooting the breeze with a beer from the fridge. We are from a red flame and a cross and it only takes a spark to get a fire going right across the street, to a fire that continued to spread to the shores of Lake Erie and then to the shores of Africa. We are from Middlebranch, grassy fields, the woods, and Norwood Hills From small sips snuck from a cold glass of coke sitting beside the kitchen sink. From canoes and campfires, Reach Out and Altersgate From the depression that took our grandpa And the stroke that changed our father. Stored deep in the back of a dark closet, an old round hat box sat zipped up tight, holding piles of old pictures, a puzzle of stern faces, that held the dreams of our own lives in their strong soiled hands. We are from those memories, lived long before we shared the womb of our mother, surprising them all as two instead of one.

Halloween By Trace Walker Thump Thump is what Jim heard last night. It was Halloween night and Jim was very excited to go Trick Or Treating. He was going to be a hobo. Well when Jim got back from Trick Or Treating, something was eery. Like when in a horror film when you know the girl is going to be stabbed. It was real scary like. So Jim went and watched the Price Is Right. It was Jim's bedtime so he went up stairs to brush his hair. Then he brushed his teeth, the tooth paste tasted salty and looked reddish. Then Jim saw a shadow on the stairs. He thought it was his parents. But we all know its not. So then he went and climbed into his bed, but could not fall asleep. Then Jim heard a drip drip like a liquid dropping. Then it happened Thump Thump, it was coming from the attic. Like all boys Jim went and investigated. As he crept up the stairs, he could hear a swishing noise. Like a golf club swinging, but Jim's parents did not play golf. What Jim saw was Bob Barker with a golf club. Well we all know what happens next. Or well maybe we don't. Jim woke up, Maybe he had had a little too much candy.

I sit up to the sound of my alarm clock going off. Not wanting to get up, I reach up and turn my lamp on, knowing I won’t happen any other way. I lay there for a few more seconds before forcing myself to my feet. February 22, 2010, like any other Monday before, or so I thought. | Once up, I get dressed and brush my hair, almost out of it, forcing myself with every step. Why did I stay up so late last night, I now wonder, not the best start for the first day of the week? After all this, I walk up stairs, and sit down to eat. Once I was full I got up put my dishes in the sink and went back downstairs to brush my teeth before the bus came. Heading back up stairs I hear the bus go by as usual. I knew that as every other day it would return five minutes later on its way back. So I grabbed my book bag and stood in the foyer waiting. I then hear a cat meowing so I step outside. Mitro is stuck on the roof again, “There’s a surprise,” I think to myself. Walking across the porch I grab the stepping stool and place it on the steps. I step up grabbing my little kitten, rushing to set him down before he claws me while trying to regain his balance. As we hear the bus coming back, Leighton, Drezden, and I turn and walk down the sidewalk. As we turn onto the blacktop, I freeze. There is my favorite cat, Pumfy, laying there facing the road, still, silent, dead and soggy from the morning dew. Mckinis Beam

My Friend by Ashley Barnes Your friendship has helped me grow. Your encouragement has helped me gain confidence in myself. Knowing someone as caring as you has made me more sensitive to the needs of others. Your understanding has helped me to become more open about my feelings, and listening to your observations has made me think a lot about what really matters. Your friendship has made me see life as something to be enjoyed. . . especially with someone like you.

summer time summer time has it's up's and down's, not seeing your friends is a down having party's and going to the pool is an advantage. the summer has lots of fun and main events like playing outside, grilling out,and of course going to the pool and camping. people have alot of fun and we all have memories of the summer having fun i hope you all have a great summer. Melanie Harris MIDDLE SCHOOL EXPERIENCES I have experienced many new and old things in the 2 years I have been in the middle school. I have met new teachers and new friends. Also I have learned a lot of new things. I learned how to make new friends. I have learned how to move around the school with other students, older and younger than me. The thing that helped me a lot is my grandpa in a coach and a referee. Therefore most teachers know him and me because I would go with him to his practices and to game that he refereed. Also since he refereed almost all the sports a lot of people knew me to and they were happy to help his little granddaughter. Now that I’m in the middle school I can help my grandpa coach his track team. It is very fun to help him after school and to help him yell at the boys. Also since I came to the middle school I have made new friends while helping him coach. But since I have been at the middle school I have gotten smarter. However the work has gotten harder, to finish and harder to think about. However I have nothing else to say.

Where I'm From By Katie Davis I'm from daydreaming of Maine until that one golden week of summer, when it finally comes true. The smell of salt air, filling my nose as we finally begin the ending of our long journey to what we think of as home. Pulling into the gravel road just outside of Bar Harbor, where our cabin awaits, welcoming us home after a long snowy winter. Tumbling out of an over packed car and exploring around our cabin, on the soft wet ground covered in pine needles, to see what's changed and what hasn't. Then unloading the car and heaping everything in front of the lobster crate, turned upside down to be used as a coffee table. But the heap of car food, blankets, suitcases, and everything else we packed can wait, because we're here now and that's all we care about. I'm from waffles on the weekends, and reading books on Friday nights. I'm from doing homework in the art room, and watching The Office every evening. I've memorized every bump and tree and curve on the way to Hillsboro. When I see the sparkling lights of town, I know that I'm halfway there, halfway home. One last curve and finally we've arrived at Belfast. Passing the old school, I start to gather my things. Over Brush Creek and the day is almost over. Then, finally, the moment I've been waiting for. We pull into Storer Lane, the gravel of the road crunching and popping under our tires, and I'm finally there. And so the day begins again the next morning, waking at 5 am. Except this trip is different, it will go much faster than the one home, because I'll be comatose by Hillsboro, the sound of big band music lulling me to sleep. School interrupts my dreams though, as I am abruptly awakened. I am from observing everything that goes on around me. I don't miss a detail, even though my mind wanders sometimes.

josiah weyand Joyful Outgoing Satisfied inrolled alive happy | Buried by Morgan Collner My living room is buried;buried in boxes. The hours in my days consist of school, painting, and packing. I long for the organized space that was displayed before we started to move. Now, its " Move a box off the table so we can do our homework , or "Set that box on the couch". Moving is a stressful thing that aften causes arguments between the people you love most. It has its way of making you want to bite that persons head off and hug them at the same time. You want to tell them " Hey! Watch out you got white paint on the blue wall." But, at the same time your glad that the walls are being painted at all; that there is no longer any procrastinating. Moving, is a rollercoaster of emotions.

Tears. By McKinis Beam They build up in your eyes just getting ready to let go. Let go and fall, like memories. Memories sliding down, away. As they hit the edge coming to an end. Gone forever. Those little teardrops. Each one representing a time in the past. The past that use to be. They use to be your life and they use to be you. I honestly miss my past. I wish so much that I could have a chance to go back. Not to redo things, but just to embrace all that I had going for me, every little part of my life. I miss the things that have changed and everything that I have lost. But then again, I love my life now. I love my friends and family. The new people I have met and my new pets. As life goes on, you lose your past, but you create your future. But it makes me wonder. Is it worth really worth it? | Summer By Ben Constant A hot sunny day Playing outside in the sun Splashing in the pool An Important Place to Me By Katie Davis An important place to me would be our deck. Located behind our house, our deck is, in my opinion, the house's best feature. We recently had a roof put on it, so now it's like a second big family room. From our deck, you have a great view of the rolling countryside, the far-off Appalachian foothills and the woods bursting with color now that Fall has arrived. Our deck is like a huge theatre that has a never-ending play of the wildlife and nature right in our backyard. We have a movie night every Friday, where I lug down the small but heavy TV from my room, and we watch a DVD that my mom brings home from work (which is the library). Every blanket in the house is thrown onto the glider and chairs, while I have my own spot on the hammock. It's places like this that form the memories that last a lifetime. And it's a place like this that is very important to me.

Gems of a Heart By Emma Heys A sapphire as blue as the ocean. A rube as red as the summer apples on the apple tree. An emerald as green as the cool summer grass. A pearl as white as the clouds in the sky. An amber as brown as the dirt in the Earth. An amethyst as purple as the morning sky. A tigers eye as orange as the setting sun. An opal as black as the night sky. A dimond that sparkles as bright as the stars in the sky. These gems are worth more than one can afford, but it dose not mesure up to how much I feel about the one I love. drake bell uses a dell Chatting with josh peck Who is a pain in the neck by Sam Marshall

The Night We Will Never Forget Keith and his three friends Tina, Elijah, and Stephanie lost a bet and now have to spend the at a house which is believed to be haunted. Everyone was all spooked out except for Keith. Keith says that there is no such thing as ghosts. They viewed the house a little bit. Keith viewed the living room. Tina viewed the bathroom. Elijah viewed the bedrooms. Lastly Stephanie viewed that backyard. At first it didn't seem as spooky. But as soon as Elijah went to the bedroom, the doors completely slammed shut. He couldn't get out at all. Stephanie went and noticed a soccer. She said, "Oh now I can have some fun.". But as soon as she touched the ball, she saw a ghost. She screamed so loud that her mom from the other side of town can hear her. She came to Keith and said, "I AM OUT!". Keith replyed, "Oh come on. I bet it is just some prank.". After a while he managed to convine her to stay. Elijah came about three minutes which a scared look on his face. He then said, "Can we go home now?". Stephanie then yelled out, Oh my God! Where's Tina?". Tina popped up all wet. The three of them said, "What happened to you?". "The shower gave me a shower!" replyed Tina. Keith broked the silence and said, "Oh come on guys. You three are just getting spooked because we saw Paranormal Activity before we got here.". Stephanie said in anger, "If you knew what we went through, you would probably ask to leave like crazy.". Keith then said, "Why don't we go to the basement. It is the scariest room in those kind of movies.". So all four of them went to the basement. It was really calm. Well until the stairs tilted to the left. Which caused all four of them to fall to the ground. Keith began to worry. But lied when he said, "Well this house is old.". Elijah said then, "Forget the bet I vote we leave.". Tina then said, "I second that.". Stephanie then said,"Then let's leave!". Keith blocked the door. Then Stephanie punched him in the face. "Ow! What was that for?". Stephanie replyed, "That's for blocking the door!". Keith said "Well what do you expect me to do. We made a deal.". Then all of a sudden the lights went out. When the lights came back on, Keith disappeared. "Now what do we do?" said Elijah. "We got to find Keith.'' said Tina "Then get out of this house.". They searched everywhere in the house. But there was no sign of Keith.

An event that is impacting my life One event that has impacted my life and that is still impacting my life a lot is when my dad abandoned me. He stopped calling, texting, talking and picking me up. Therefore I live full time with my mom. Since I don't go over to my dads anymore I have more free time to myself. When I was over at my dads I had to watch my 3 siblings Hallie, Ethan, and Anika, which made it harder to get my homework done. Therefore had not bad but not good grades, a c average most of they time. That was actually bad grade for me. I usually had strait A's or 1 or 2 B's maybe. However before i get into too much more details let me tell my story. One sunny afternoon me and my dad were playing a game. Well it kinda got out of control and he pinched me and twisted my skin and bruised me. Well I was supposed to go on vacation with him the next day. I happened to have a softball game the day his bruised me. So I went to my mom and told her I didn't want to go with my dad. She told me I had no choice. Until I showed her what my dad had done to me. When the game was over I told my dad I wasn't going with him. Then from that point on we got into a fight. Finally I ran to my dads van and grabbed my stuff out of his van and took it to my moms jeep. Then I didn't go with him on vacation. Therefore he was made at me. At this time my step mom was pregnant. But, when she had her baby my dad was still made at me so he didn't call and tel me. 2 days after the baby was born my grandma called me and told me she was born 2 days ago. I never got a phone call from my dad. Finally 6 months after our fight my sister had called me and told my dad she was talking to me. Then, he talked to me. However, I didn't really want to talk to him or see him at that point. It wasn't until the weekend before Christmas that I went and saw them. But, my dad didn't change. He still went and went hunting with his friend which is my cousin and left me with my step mom. I was very depressed. I still went to his house the next weekend. But, after Christmas he never called me again. The last time I talked to him is May 4Th, 2010. I called him because my mom was wanting to get me into an orthodontist so I could get started with my braces. However without my dads insurance information we could not get them for me. My dad promised me he would give me that information the next day but, he changed his mind i guess and hasn't gave it to me or my mom yet. Therefore we are going to go to court or we are going to attempt to call him again and get it. This event has impacted my life because I now see how my dad felt when he was an young boy. When my dad was young my Pappa David left my dad and my Grandma Vickie. My Pappa David always promised my dad that he would come and get him and take him to see his grandparents on the holiday. But, he always broke his promise. However my dad went to see his grandparents anyway because my grandma would take him. I've thought about that situation and my situation and they both seem very similar. That is why I believe that my dad is doing the same thing to me as his dad did to him. My mom had told me I can make my own decisions now that I am mature enough and I have made my decision. I have decided to not go and see my dad any more. However I have chosen to go see my Pappa David even though my dad said that my Pappa David said he didn't want to see me. But, after talking to my Pappa David he said no he couldn't because my dad never gave him our address after we moved and now we love each other again and he help me get through a lot in this situation. That is the story of the event that impacted and is still impacting my life.

Cat in the Air Duct One day I went to Pet-Smart and bought a cat. She was a small female tabby cat. We took her home and let her out in my room to get used to our house. The only problem was that all the other cats "marked their territory" all over our house. After a week of that my mother gave the cat to my grandma, because she had no other animals, and I agreed that as long as I could still see her it would be fine. The next week she was taken to the vetranarian and we were all shocked to find out she was really a he. Her decided name was then Graysir, like Gracie. Graysir was then fine at my grandmas for the next few weeks. In the winter of 2008 my grandma went to visit my aunt in Zurich, Switzerland. She didn't want to leave Graysir at home so he took care of him at our house. We let him out at our house, but it just so happened that at the time my dad was cleaning the covers for the vents, and it also just so happened that Graysir was very frieghtened so he ran in the air duct. We had to cut open the air duct in the crawl space and attempt to get him out, but we had no luck. He was stuck in the air duct all night until we could try again in the morning. The next morning we cut off the other linking pipe and finally got him out by putting a measuring tape in one end and grabbing him from the other end. He hasn't been over to our house since that day. But there was no sign of Keith. They viewed all of the rooms except for the creepy dark room that none of them bothered to check. So Tina grabbed onto the door. When it opened, they noticed a dark figure. Elijah turned on the lights. It weird Keith! Who was screaming like there was no tomorrow. "So do you believe us now?" said Tina. Keith replyed "Okay you were right! Get me down so we can get out of this house.". But as soon as they got near the door, it completely slammed shut. Elijah and Tina pulled the door as hard as they can but they couldn't. Tina pulled an axe she found on the wall. Stephanie said, "Go for it Tina. We might be able to break free.". But when Tina kept hitting the door with that battle looking axe, not even a scratch was shown. Stpehanie then said in a freaked out accent, "WE HAVE TO GET OUT OF HERE!". "Well let's think.". As soon as Keith finished that sentence, all four of them saw the backyard disappear. Elijah then had a idea. "Let's try climbing to the roof.". Keith then said, "How? There are no stairs that lead to the roof.". "We can try climbing through the window." said Tina. But without knowing ghosts started flying towards them. They ran towards the window and began climbing. They climbed on the roof. But the weirdest thing happened. There was no houses, grasses, anything. Elijah then said, "I can't take it anymore!". Elijah jumped off the roof. Tina said, "No! Why Elijah?". Tina then passed out and slided off the roof. "Wait!" said Stephanie "What if we jump off the roof and everything becomes normal?". You know what she did? Stephanie jumped off the roof. Keith said to himself, "Serves me right for not beleving in ghosts. I might as well jump!" While screaming, Keith jumped off the roof also. Later on all four of them woke up. They all felt a little sore. They noticed that they ain't in the house. It was also morning. They completed their goal. They ran all the way to their home. The End

One summer on a sunny day, at a big white and brown building. My mom and I were outside with nobody around empty and silent. I had asked her something, but I don’t remember what I had asked which made it a big argument about either going to friends or wanting something and not getting it. Finally I just got sick of it got out the car and went into the house. She had came in and started yelling at me and saying that I am grounded. I said no I’m not so. We were still yelling then we thought we heard something it was the door. I went to answer it; it had been my friends Ashley and Kate wanting me to come out. I had told my mom we will talk about it later. I had gone out the door and down the street. My mom came out and said come back now, I just kept walking. She gave up got in the car and just sat there with no one around and the car not on. Three or four hours later I came back and she was still in the car, but this time she was on the phone. She had got off the phone and came up to me and hit me. After she hit me we were both shocked of what happened. My mom hurried to say I’m sorry but I ignored her and kept walking. Then something shocking happened I had hollered I hate you I want to go to a foster care. I went back to Ashley and Katies. When I got home she was still crying about what happened. I started crying with her and whimpering I’m sorry please forgive me. We started talking about it and expressing our feelings to work thing out. After we got done talking, I started thinking to myself it. And now thinking about it everything isn’t about me and I can’t always get my way. By telling people about it now it’s like I would never say that to somebody. And to this day it still makes my heart drop and me sad. This is the day I will always regret telling my mom I hate her and to take me to a place what I had said. And I thought that I had learned a lesson. My lesson was that I should watch what I say. Also to be careful with my words and how I say them. My values then were when I want something I have to get that and ask with respect or you cant do what you want to do.also the more respect you give they will give it back.one more thing dont say you wnat to go to falster care cause there are some people around here that are. so think about what you say. 19: Degu Degus are small gerbil like animals, but a bit larger. They originate in deserts of Africa, and live in packs. In their habitat they make tunnels and canals for living. Another interesting fact about gerbils is that they take dust baths to stay clean, not normal baths. To pick up a degu , never grab it by the tail because as a part of their self defense, they can shed it.The tail won't ever grow back. Also, never pick up a degu from above due to the fact that they are hunted by birds, so they will become frantic. Degus are natural born diabetics, so they cannot eat fruits or any kind of food with sugar. Their stomachs cannot digest even the smallest amount of sugar so be careful. They can eat lots of gerbil food and Timothy Hay as a main part of their diet. Degus should usually bought in a pair of the same gender, while they are still babies. If they don't have another one, they might become aggressive through depression. They need a large cage to explorer due to their natural born curiosity. Another thing to keep in mind is that you should give them a wheel, shew toys, social time, and don't overfeed them. Also, make sure they have plenty of water, cgange the bedding in their cage every two weeks, and supply chinchilla dust so they can keep their fur clean. Degus really do make wonderful pets, just make sure that they are treated properly so they are as happy as you are about having them. Isaac Allemang

I called him because my mom was wanting to get me into an orthodontist so I could get started with my braces. However without my dads insurance information we could not get them for me. My dad promised me he would give me that information the next day but, he changed his mind i guess and hasn't gave it to me or my mom yet. Therefore we are going to go to court or we are going to attempt to call him again and get it. his event has impacted my life because I now see how my dad felt when he was an young boy.

Kalan Collins One day there was an evil demon walking along the road. He had the power to stay invisible. So, no one could see him. As he was walking through the neighborhood he saw a spooky house and decied he wanted to live there. The demon slowly creeped up to the scary looking building and decied that he would live here for the rest of his life. He woke up one day and heard some spooky noices coming from the attic. He waled up there and saw a way bigger demon than he was. They fought over who should keep the house and finally a rat that lived in the same house screamed stop fighting you to why don't you just both live here.

Most Improved For the past couple of summers I've been on the Clinton County Barracuda Swim Team. At the end of every season there is an awards night. Some of the best swimmers are recognized here but also the most improved. For the past two years in a row I've been awarded the most improved swimmer in my age group. ( 11 years old and up.) When you get most improved for your age group that means that from the beginning of the season to the very end your times have dropped the most. The sport that helped me this summer was cross country condoning. Swimming uses strength in your arms and in your legs, but cross country really only works your leg strength. So if I work my legs a little harder than my arms then my times will drop. That's how I defiantly got most improved this summer. By Emma Hayes

THIS I BELIEVE Josiah I was twelve and I went to tryout for a baseball team. I went to a party and got a call from the baseball team. WE left for the field. When we got there the fields sucked. It was in the middle of nowhere in Batavia. I tossed with a kid my age named Joey. We were the youngest there. When we got on the field the dirt and sand. The grass was wet. We did grounders and pop flees. I did well on grounders. My pop fly’s was not the best I was always staring in the sun. Up next was bating. I had a good feeling. I was the best of my age grope that had to try out. I was using a minuses eight bat. I swing hard crack it was gone. We moved on to the field. This tryout was for any age group. An eighth grader was up I was in center field. He ripped the ball towed the fence in right the fielder didn’t try so I sprinted to it and dived and came up with it. The tryout ended. On Sunday I had to try out again it a hot summer day doing its job it was time to hit. A guy named rob was pitching I said lets rock. I had only one good ball to hit the rest was wild or I hit grounders. That good ball turned into a home run. My fielding was ok. My pop flies were bad they were left or right. I was told not good enough. I left embarrassed and sad. I went to Springboro and got a team. That is why I hold on to never give up.

He knew it was another gang's car and that's why I think he learned a lesson when he got jumped so mabe next time he won't walk by himself. In the future I think that he will be more careful and he will watch his back. He will carry a knife I think, because of protection. He will try to stay away from that gang.

Adam Ferguson I drove when I was little. When I was three years old I accedentaly drove an old monsterous Chevy van into my house. When I was six years old I drove my grandfathers' VolksWagon Rabbit[ at least I didn't wreck that car]. Also when I was six I started to drive the lawnmower. When winter comes around it is my job to get all the cars unstuck and out of the snow. Two is the most challenging cars to get out of the snow were a Scion tC sports car and a Ford Econoline-150 Cargo van. The sports car has racing tires on it. The Ford van weighs 7,000 pounds when it is empty, it was not empty, it was fully loaded. I enjoy every thing about cars. I drove when I was little.

This I believe Patrick Stamper When I met Josh we were in kindergarten at east end elementary. It was at recess when we were playing kickball on the same team. When josh went up to kick “I told him good luck”. Then he kicked the ball all the way to the fence. We went back to inside “I said hi” and introduced myself. “I believe we will be friends for life”. Andy Ealy I had just got out of school and John and I were walking to one of our friends cars in the highschool parking lot. We were going to the highschool football game in Walnut Hills. As we were driving around the bad neighborhood in Walnut Hills, when all of the sudden we saw a guy about 17 years of age, and take a guess what he was doing. The dude was walking his cat on a leash. All of us in the car just started busting out laughing. Well that was a little story about our visit to Walnut Hills.

SPORTS BY: HARLEY MCPHERSON Last year I was playing baseball during the summer. Every time my dad would tell me to see the ball I would always hit it no matter where it was if it is at my hands, right down the middle, or the opposite side you bat on. Every single game I would sit on the bench and close my eyes. Say to myself I will always hit the ball because I am a hitter not a person who thinks he is going to hit a home run. My dad would always say that when I have a perfect batting percentage he would let us do some work on our driveway. So we can build upper body muscle. My uncle was to put some concrete on the ground for us. My neighbor forgot to roll the driveway out so it will be nice so we can drive on. We did that for like THREE weeks and we were so sore I could not even pick up a bat. A week later I was feeling a lot better. I had a game in Kentucky and I hit the ball ever time but I got out every time. That’s how you build upper body muscles.

By Josh Swearingen An event that has impact my life would. Be one day keith and I were in the woods across the field behind my house. We were walking through the trees and we found a passage. That leads a hill with lots of trees around it and a crick behind the hill. So we decided to clear out some of the trees and make into a place to hang out at. There was a steep spot on the hill and I was beside it. So I was pulling a small tree out of the ground and. I slipped and started to go down the steep part of the hill and before I went down. I grabbed keith’s leg and he went down with me and .I got cot in a vine’s that were sticking out of the ground then I pulled myself up while keith was laying in the mud and water.

“A Night in the Grave Yard” By Chris Gunkle On a spooky Halloween night just after trick or treat was over, my friends Josh, Rigel, Seth and I decided to wonder off into the creepy, dark cemetery. When we got to the front gate of the cemetery, Seth wanted to turn back and go home because he was to scared. I was able to talk Seth into keep going with the rest of us. We continued down the dark path..... As we were walking down the trail of headstones, we heard a shuffle of leaves and felt a cold and fast presence go by us. My friend Rigel asked the rest of us “ Did you feel that?” Josh and I answered “yes, we felt that.” Seth was awful quite so we asked again if he felt that. Again, no answer. We turned around to see what was wrong with Seth just to notice he was gone! Josh, Rigel, and I decided to hurry up and look for Seth so we could get out of the cemetery. After two hours of searching, still no sign of Seth. We decided that it was time to go tell our parents that Seth was missing. As we were leaving the cemetery, we saw a bright green light appear from a headstone in the distance. We then saw a white shadow that appeared to be a ghost. I screamed GHOST!!! Josh, Rigel, and I ran as fast as we could run until we were out of the cemetery and back at the house. As we walked in the house, there sat Seth sitting by the fireplace drinking his hot chocolate. We all sat around the fireplace thankful to be safe and plotting what we were going to do next year on Halloween.

Miami University By Taylor Hodge Saturday at 4am, my mom woke me up I wondered what time it was. Then looked at the clock and was shocked. I got up and ate. I was excited to go to Miami University; it is where I want to go to when I grow up. My parents and i were in the car heading to Hamilton, Ohio. We were in the car and I was thinking and saying to myself "I AM READY" when really I wasn't. I had a peanut butter power bar and chocolate milk (a swimmers power meal). I am a swimmer, the reason I was going to Miami was because I got a Double A which is a very good time in a swimmers races. Finally after an hour of riding in the car we were there I didn’t know how to react or where to go so I tried to find another YMCA FINS parent to leave my stuff with while I warmed up in the pool with my team mates. We found them and I went to the pool and I found that there was a window in the bottom of the pool. To warm up individually we had to warm up in Miami's diving pool where the pool was 20 feet deep and the water was dark blue. When the races began the girls were in one pool and the boys were in the other pool. I got fourth place in the 50 freestyle; I hope that next I get another chance to go to Miami University.

Friendship By Lacie Bryant If I could catch a rainbow I would do it just for you. I would share it with you .I would share its beauty on the day you’re feeling blue. If I could build a mountain for you. You could call it your very own. It would be a place where you could find serenity and a place to be alone. If I could take your troubles I would toss them in the sea. But all these things I’m finding are impossible for me. I cannot build a mountain or catch a rainbow fair. But let me bewhat I know best, A friend that will always be there for you. | Where I’m From By Dazay I’m from the basketball team that is funny. I’m from a family that is always working. My favorite place to go is Lazer Kraze. The thing I’m thankful most for is when they bought me my dog, Chloe, she is a really good dog. That is why my parents are what I’m most thankful for. My parents love me and want me to do well in life.

Skiing VS Snowboarding By Brent Hoggatt Most people think that skiing and snowboarding are very similar but they are in fact two very different activities. Snowboarding is a sport that involves riding on a single board that is strapped to your feet. In skiing however, you’re strapped into two boards to ride down the mountain. Although some people may insist that one is better than the other, it is all based on preference. Skiing is different from snowboarding in many ways. One way is that because skiers have two boards to ride on this makes skiing easier to learn for beginners. One of the reasons it is easier is because unlike snowboarders, skiers can use a technique called the snow plow to slow themselves down. If you are learning how to ski you will find yourself using this method almost constantly. Snowboarders, however, have no effective way of slowing down. They can go or they can stop. A good rule of thumb to go by is: skiing is easy to learn but hard to master. Snowboarding is hard to learn but easy to master. Just like skiing, snowboarding has advantages as well. The main advantage of snowboarding is if you fall, you can just pop back up again. In skiing if you fall you have a mess of poles, skis, and legs and it takes some time to get back on your feet. Some would say that snowboarding is smoother than skiing and it is easier on the knees. If you have never tried your luck on the slippery downhill slopes, give skiing or snowboarding a try. Wear lots of layers of clothing to break the inevitable falls. Take lots of breaks for warm hot chocolate and always go with a buddy. Before long, you will be making the trek from the bunny hills to the real slopes. Be careful, be courageous, and most of all, have fun.

This I Believe I believe in team work. I believe that you can accomplish a lot more as a team. Team work is the key to winning. Our football team, (Wilmington Hurricanes) has succeeded over the years. Every year we lose a key player but we work through it to be champions. Our coach Jody is a great part of our accomplishments. Our third grade year we lost to Hillsboro by seven in the playoffs to stop our season. Our football coach told us to look at the scoreboard, and said that it is never going to happen again. He told us that we are one of the best teams and when you show up no one can touch you. Every year since this we have worked harder and tried harder than we have ever done before. He prints everyone a piece of paper for goals and at the top it has always says “the one who stays will be champion”, also he wrote that we have to score at least 128 points and only let up 28 points. Over the years we have never reached all our goals until this year. The work that we have done has paid off over the years. Jody has never been my favorite coach but now I realize he yells at me and pushes me to my limits to make me a better player, I would like to thank him for keeping us as a team and pushing us as hard as he does. Team work is the key to success and winning games. Since we have united as a team, we have made some great accomplishments. We have won the championship but never have we been undefeated until this year. After winning a championship, the feeling is indescribable. It makes you feel like you’re on top of the world. Every year since, he has pushed us so we succeed and reach our goals. Because of this, our accomplishments are shown over 5 years and our record is 38-4. When the season is over you feel lost. After school you don’t know what to do. By the next year you are pumped and ready to play again, and win yet another championship. This has been a great run for our team. Coach told us that we will go down as one of the greatest teams in Wilmington Hurricane football. I appreciate our enthusiasm and that our team works together even though we don’t all get along. Our coach has been a great part of our accomplishments. Without him, I believe we wouldn’t be where we are today. I believe in teamwork. Working as a team lets us reach the heights of greatness. 49: The Fear of Speaking Theresa Schwartz The Fear of Speaking Is there anything scarier than a haunted house? Yes there is. Speaking in public. It’s true. Imagine it. You write a paper, then you’re told to read it in public. That’s when it happens. You walk to the center stage. Everyone has their eyes glued to your face. You think that’s the worst part, then they turn a single spotlight on you. ‘Oh my gosh!’ you think to yourself, ‘I can’t do this.’ You then clear your throat to begin, but something’s on your arm. You dare to look down. There they are, the one thing all people like you have nightmares of. Goose bumps. You jerk your head upright. ’Shake it off!’ you tell yourself. You clear your throat again. This time you can’t get a word out of your mouth. Another bad sign. You’re already doomed. Then you suddenly remember something! All of those eyes are on you. Finally it happens. You clear you’re throat for the third time. This time you get a sound out. Unfortunately it’s an awful high-pitched squeak. You can’t take it anymore! The eyes, the goose bumps, no voice. You have a nervous breakdown and need water immediately. They usually have water for guest speakers, right? Wrong. The closest water is at the restroom. You’ve failed this time. You run off the stage terrified. What could be worse? Nothing, right? This presentation can’t get any worse. Wrong. Everything has to get worse before it can get better. As you run toward the restroom, you hear everyone laughing at you. You debate whether or not to leave the restroom and return. Finally you decide to go straight home. Wait. The paper, you don’t have it. You walk outside and hear it. You left the paper on the podium and somebody was reading it. The audience is laughing so hard they’re crying, some of them fall out of their chairs. ‘Note to self. Never do public speaking.’ You remind yourself this over and over, but don’t listen. The next week you’re at the same podium So I ask again. Is there anything scarier than a haunted house?

Emily’s Tooth If you look at my seven year old sister’s mouth you would notice that a tooth is missing from her top row of teeth. You might think this is normal, for a seven year old to loose some teeth, but she lost that tooth when she was one. And that is not normal. All of this happened when Emily was around one year of age. Our family was hanging out or watching a movie in our living room. It was Just a normal night at our house. It must have been around fall of just at the beginning of the winter. I was around five or six years old. My mom had told me to go upstairs and put on a pair of socks. Apparently Emily had followed me upstairs when I went to get the socks. While I was putting on the socks Emily must have climbed up on the bed and started to jump up and down. All of a sudden, she fell and hit the metal part of the bed. She started screaming and crying. I ran over to her and asked her what was hurt. She opened her mouth and showed me her teeth. I looked and saw that one of her tooth was horizontally facing towards me. She was still screaming as I raced her down stairs to my parents. They met halfway up the stairs and took her. I told them what happened and they immediately got us all packed up and swept us out the door. My parents took my other sister and I to our grandmothers and we stayed there for a while. Later we got the story from my parents. They took Emily to the dentist, and he tried to remove the tooth but only half of it came out. So for a couple weeks she had half a tooth in her mouth. But one day when my mom was wiping her face off the other half of the tooth came out. So that was the story of how my one year old sister lost her first tooth. 52: WHAT I AM GRATEFUL FOR I am grateful for family that has helped me in life. Friends that have helped me with school work that I did not understand, or any other things. Teachers that have helped me make good choices in life. Or just helping me do whatever needed to be done, such as corrections on papers, test and school work. I am grateful for having food on the holidays. Also for receiving gifts on my birthdays, Easter, and Christmas. I am happy to have clothes that I need. I am grateful to have freedom just to go outside and enjoy life without worries. I look forward to all the holidays and just be grateful that I have a family to spend it with. Dallas Smith | SPACEBUDDIES One day my friends and I were taking a walk down a trail. Everything was fine until we walked upon a spaceship. Before we knew it we were snatched up instantly and thought we were history. The one eyed green monsters had in mind that we were going to be their supper. All we could think about was not ever seeing our friends and family again. I passed out and realized somebody was yelling my name. Come to find out it was all just a dream. My mom was yelling for me to come to breakfast. Dallas Smith | Summer A hot sunny day Playing outside in the sun Splashing in the pool By: Ben Constant

So one day they set out to look for it. They packed their traveling bags and went off in search of this delicious mountain. Fred stopped and sniffed the air. He smelled gum drops that told them they were almost there. Bob climb a tree to look around for Candy Mountain. Bob exclaimed “I see the mountain!” Bob climbed down and they both ran to the mountain. They both knew they were close because they saw lollipop trees. They finally arrived at the mountain. As they climbed they saw icing so they licked it as they climbed. When they got to the top they saw a field of brussel sprouts and a forest of broccoli. They were so disappointed since they travelled so far and found only yucky brussel sprouts and broccoli. They climbed down the mountain and ate all the lollipop trees and gum drops. A dragon came and was mad that they ate all his gum drops and lollipop trees so he ate them. By: Ben Constant

An event that impacted my life When I was 5 years old I woke up in the middle of the night and was talking to my mom. I told her that the side of my neck was hurting really bad and so she took me to the hospital. I was scared because when I got there they put me on this thing that moved in, I think they could see the x-ray of my neck. I didn't like one bit of it. They took me out and found out I had a lymph node in my neck. They took me to the emergency room because it got bigger and bigger. When i got there they put me to sleep and did surgery on me. When they were doing surgery i didn't wake up, but I moved a little bit and felt a tickle which was weird. It took me awhile to wake up but when I did I was on a bed which the nurse was pushing and while mom was walking next to me. I told my mom that I fell asleep and then woke up. After that mom and dad got some me macaroni and cheese to eat and it was delicious. My mom got me stuffed animal cat and my dad got me a stuffed animal horse. I was in the hospital for six days and I didn't go to school so Alyssa brought me my homework. The one part I didn't like was me being in the hospital on my birthday. My grandma and grandpa Butler came down to visit me and brought balloons and cards. My cousin, Emily Escobedo, came with them and was happy to see me. I didn't like being in the hospital. Then I finally was out of the hospital. I was back to my house and was glad. This has impacted my life because I now have a scar on the right side of my neck. This has also impacted my life because I wouldn't be here today. I wouldn't see the people I care about. I'm lucky I survived this awful infection called lymphadenitis. It's usually called a lymph node. This is a tragedy.

Shining Silver Swords By Ashley Barnes A young woman about twenty was in a room with candles on the top of the walls made of stone. The only thing in the room was a rusty metal box Stan with a velvet box on top. It looked like two swords would fit but they were missing. The woman had long black curly hair scraped back in a high pony, A gaunt face with bright violet eyes and full lips, White porcelain skin and a really toned skin. She was wearing a tight black tank top, leather skin tight trousers and long knee high boots. She had two swords in her hand, Sterling silver and had rubies encrusted in the handle. She had her back twisted a bit and was doing a series of three hundred and sixty point turns while spinning the swords as if they were batons. Just as she was going to do her fifth consecutive turn there was a loud knock on the door. The woman stopped and ran quicker than normal to the velvet box and put the two swords back carefully and ran back to the door and pulled a rusty old key from her boot to unlock the door. When she finally got the door to open after the third turn she slowly opened the door. There at the door was a person in a black cloak and the hood covered their face. "So is there something wrong or are we here for a chat." Said the young woman she had an English accent, She sounded from London. "Nothing is wrong per say just the fact we have about two hundred people around the mountain looking for a pair of swords." She was a woman her voice was sharp and cold. "I will attend to them." Said the first woman "You better or else their boss will know and we don't want that do we?" The cloaked woman then disappeared into thin air although the other did not seem phased by it. The woman ran back to the velvet box took the swords out carefully and then closed the box and walked slowly to the door and opened it slowly. She ran through the cave like candlelight corridors until she ran into another cloaked person "Sorry are you okay?" said the woman a little agitated. " No, no I am alright although those people outside what if they get in? What do I do?" Said the man in the cloak "They will not get in." She said confidently and forcefully. She then skinned the man and ran out of the huge hole. The snow was falling very heavily. She stated climbing down the slope with ice covering the top she then back flipped her claws digging into the ground for balance then her leg went over and she was in the splits in mid air and started spinning in the splits. When she got down she ran to the right only to walk into an avalanche it toppled on her and she kept falling and falling. She whacked her head three times and heard her leg snap. She slowly got up and looked around about fifty tents in total and camp fires in different places. She put her hands on her head and the cut slowly healed and then she cracked her leg back in place and then healed her leg. Then she got the swords ready, licked her lips hungrily and started doing kicks and amazing slashes then she ran and done a fifty foot leap in the air. Ready for battle.

Try harder In 6th grade I started feeling good about my school year until things started to get messy. I would wake up in the mourning feeling hateful to the world. I would keep forgetting about my homework. Until one day I got home and noticed my grades I got 5 D’s and 2 C’s. I got yelled at a lot until I got my grades up so I spent almost the rest of the year getting my grades up and hearing my mom and dad keep saying try harder, try harder. And on the last day of school I had 5 A’s and 2 B’s I was so proud of myself and I was glad I listened to my mom and dad say try harder. 57: My First Day In East End Elementary- Finished Justin Moore I first came to East End during 3rd Grade. I was nervous of course but what else could I do? My teacher then was Mrs. Hodson. We went over simple government stuff due to the fact that we were having a field trip. What made me very nervous was that Mrs. Hodson made everyone come up and introduce themselves. They were all very nice of course. Some people go to this school today. Such as Autumn Huston, Samantha Gross, Josh Swearingan, and Sam Brown. We went to lunch later on and it was pretty good. We also got two recess which made it more fun for me back then. The library was also very cool. I checked out a cook book. We also had like a special helper teacher named Mrs.Bradshaw. She was pretty nice to. It was surprisingly a good day. I thought it was going to be like a trainwrech. You know since I am the new kid. When it did come to our second recess, Alex Hebb (Friend) asked to play tag. I said sure thing. We played that for about ten minutes. Then I got very tired and fell to the ground. No I didn't faint. But people thought I did. After a while we went over a hour of work. Their was another helper, Ms. Harden. She was so so so nice. When it came time to go I had to go to bus 8. To make thing very fun, Alex Hebb was on the bus. We talked like crazy. When it came time for me to go, I said bye and see ya tomorrow to Alex. When I got home my Mom hugged me. She said "How was your first day?". I replyed "It was so fun!". In the end I thought I had a pretty good day. There was a lesson to be learned. Don't judge a book by it's cover. Well school I mean. I lived a happily good day. Well until I got sick the very next day. The End

An Unforgettable Life Experience A Narrative By:Samantha Gross Many times we as people experience new things that impact us in an unforgettable way. At different periods, we may take it for granted of the safety, and the prevention of peril. At one time, I acquired of several values, and definetly learned to be appreciative that I hadn't suffered as a relative of mine did. For what seemed like an eternity, my uncle battled and fought with the viciously-spreading cancer. Until his time to pass on from this life, he was a strong person who was respected by everyone. As the disease did its work on my uncle, the affects were shown by him getting weak. At that point, everything turned to the negative side. That night, all hope seemed to vanish from sight. My uncle was holding on to his last string of life, and even it began dwindle away. No one could do anything with the exception of praying. The night carried on; seeming to get darker and darker. Just as the sun rose the next morning, my uncle let go of his life, and passed away. The feeling was frightening; one moment he was alive, but the next he was gone. I knew that I'd taken my life for granted. From that point of my uncle's death, I've learned to be appreciative for the life I have within me. I only have one shot at my goal, and it could easily be taken away. I also acquired that life it not only a matter to run through, but to take one step at a time. Otherwise, you don't learn anything, just as I had with my unforgettable life experience. Makayla Campbell Flash Fiction Goldilocks went to a ball on a pretty island. She had to take a boat to get there. She wore a very expensive pretty dress and glass slipers. her dress was an ocean blue. While she was danceing the night away she triped on something that was very slimy. Well when she slipped she fell into the water. She wasn't a very good swimmer! Plus it wasn't that easy to swim with a dress on. Well anyways she was in the water for a long time until someone saw her. He went to help her out of the water when a giant shark ate her!

I show a lot of appreciation to my dad he works in DHL in Kentucky. He drives about 4 hours every day. He tries his best to fix up the house but he can’t because he doesn’t have the energy. Me and my dad both like to watch football on Sunday and Monday. He would love to stay up and play or do homework with us but he doesn’t have the energy. My dad has a good job that brings home money but he hates it. He usually comes home grouchy but sometimes not. He loves to be at home and play stuff like golf or baseball at the house. My dad loves to be around my family. He likes to go back to the creek every once in a while. He built us a baseball field and re-did our rooms. He tries his best to be a great dad he does things like cooks, he teaches us some things and he likes to play sports with us. My dad is a good cook he makes real good chicken wings and ribs they are my favorite. I love to be around my dad and he likes to be around me that’s why I love him. He is the hardest working person I know. He would just like to love his job and have a job he’s good at. He wishes he can be at home 24/7 but he can’t he has to go to work. So he can bring home money. I love my dad so very much and he loves me. tyler swanson One cold crisp fall day, I wanted to ride the four wheeler. I asked my mom “mom, can I go riding.” She answered “yes.” My family has 17 acres so I had a lot of room to ride. I was riding and I found a ramp I wondered “am I scared.” So I went for it but I hit a bump and it threw me off balance, I tried again and I moved away from the bump. I went back to the old muddy creek in my yard. I went into the water and it was freezing. Then I headed toward the trail and I went to the other part of the creek. The water was deeper and muddier. I went through and mumbled “wow, that’s cold.” Then I went to the hills. The hills were damp and muddy. I rode the hills for a while and I saw something and I wondered “what in the world.” I got closer and the thing I saw was a ramp that crossed the creek if you hit it correctly. I went over to the water to see how deep it was and it was only 3 inches deep then I checked to see if the ground was sturdy and it was. I went back 100 feet I revved the engine and I hit the ramp and I went flying then is aw the trees and I screamed “THE TREES” next I hit the trees and flew into the water and I thought to myself “wow that was crazy” I rode home parked the four wheeler and I walk in side my mom sarcastically said “your wet.” I joked back saying “no duh.” The lesson I learned was always check twice.

DIVERSITY OF THE WORLD My Uncle Neal has a disease that makes his speech hard to understand, his balance off, and unable to live on his own. He is my mom’s brother and lives with my grandparents. I’ve been around him since I was born. My grandma tells me I am his favorite person. As I am around Neal, I have learned the meaning of being different. When I was younger, I would spend a lot of time with him. I knew he was different physically, but inside he was the same as you and me. We can sit down and have a conversation that goes on and on. Chinese checkers are a blast when we play together. It was and still is our favorite game. As my grandma, Neal, and I gather in the living room, we spend hours laughing and having fun together. Although Neal can’t play basketball or ride bikes with me, there are so many different ways we can spend time together. I believe that people can be different and we should accept that. I have to admit when I was younger I would get scared when Neal had seizures. It was and still is a normal thing. But when he was there talking to me or playing a game, he made me feel happy. He had those nicknames for me like “lil Jill” and “shell” that he still calls me today. He brings that spark of joy to my life. A new kind of happiness to feel each and every day. Now as I have been around Neal my whole life, it has changed my thinking of children like him. I don’t look at what’s on the outside, but what’s on the inside. Really, all these people need is one smile to lighten up their day. Someone to acknowledge them, and say a warm hello. I pass kids like this in the hallway everyday at school and just have to smile. They are unique in their own way and teach everyone to live life the fullest. Today, I feel as if Neal was brought upon this Earth like this for a reason. To teach my family and me the meaning of being different. He brings smiles to our faces, and joy to our lives. This I believe is the meaning of being different. A new way of life that may be better than my own. This is to my grandma ad grandpa who has helped take care of Neal for so long. You have done well and I knew you would like to have this. This I believe is the meaning of being different. I hope you feel the same as I do. Rachel Hartley

By: Cory slaven Shawnte Morgan- Flash Fiction One day, Mr. Groundhog went to the mall. What you don't know is that Mr.Groundhog is actually an undercover princess. (yes it's really a girl) He saw a man frog and kissed it. Instantly, he died because the man frog had rabies. | Shawnte Morgan- Moment that impacted my life. In 2001, my mom Heather Ann Russell died in a car wreck. Enough said, I don't like talking about it. Her and her friends were heading home when they crashed into a telephone pole. I didn't really know my mom because she died when i was only 4 years old. It was like a big family crisis. Right now when I talk about it I go into depression mode. My mom had me when she was 16 years old in 1997, she died when she was 20. Her and my dad were already married so I completed everything. My parents loved me so much. My dad would carry me around everywhere, Wherever he went I was there. It was real tough for my family still now. Everyone loved my mom to death.( By the way that's not a joke) When my parents married, my moms name became Heather Morgan. She was one of us Morgans now. What was cool was my parents always took me to their jobs. They worked mostly at restaurant's. At one point my mom was the manager of Arby's in Milford.(Free Curly Fries anyone...LOL) All I have of her is a few pictures and fading memories or somewhat I would call flashbacks. I don't have much because relatives took what they could which was everything. I have her hair, skin tone, and eyes. But one thing is for sure, she will always be in my heart forever.

We were going to be timed in the 400 meter dash. Coach had explained what to do it before but all that had left my mind. My heart was racing as coach yelled "GO!" We were off like a couple of race horses trying to gallup to the finish line. 300 meters left and I was already striving for air. My mussels started to clench up and m legs felt like they were going to fall off. I didn't know if I was going to make it. My eyes started to water and I felt like I was going to pass out. I made it!! I was so excited but could show it for the simple reason that I couldn't breath let alone show emotions. Often track is very fun for me but doesn't always feel that way. Also it taught me how to be an athlete and to work hard at everything I do.

A Poem By: Samantha Gross Friends A friend is someone to call on, They’ll be there by your side, And when it seems all hope is gone, They’re ready to be your guide. A friend is someone sincere, They’re ready to stand up for you, And when experience comes unclear, They’re prepared to face it too. A friend is someone humble, They’ll always be honest and true, And when your world has crumbled, They’re compassionately comforting you. So in the midst of despair, When life seems unfair, Don’t give up; press towards the end, And always know that you have a friend. | Snow day when we were out on snow days. me and me and my sisters went out to play. There was many thaings we did.
