FC: Pearl Harbor vs. 9/11 By Marc Cangé
I would like to dedicate this book to all of the people who died in 9/11 and Pearl Harbor. May their souls rest in peace. | Marc Cangé Elmwood Franklin April 26, 2010
This book will compare and contrast Pearl Harbor and the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Thesis: Pearl Harbor and the attacks on September 11th, 2001 were two very important incidents that helped to shape American history.
Why Pearl Harbor happened: The Japanese took over a lot of land in late 1930’s. The US did not like it but they would not stop. We cut off trade with them because they needed petroleum and goods. Japanese Gen. Hideki Tojo realized only American forces could stop the expansion. Japanese wanted to cripple the naval fleet at Pearl Harbor. Targeted eight battleships and 180 vessels anchored in the harbor. The attack destroyed or damaged 21 American ships and 300 planes. Attack killed 2,388 and wounded over 2,000. Japanese forces lost 29 aircrafts.
Why 9/11 happened? Bin Laden had previously issued a fatwa(religious edict) calling for Muslims to kill Americans and al-Qa`ida had targeted U.S. interests on many occasions. They wanted to take control and spread their religious beliefs on as many people as possible. They were not afraid to use force against people.
What happened as a result? Global Influence Pearl Harbor As a result of Pearl Harbor, President Roosevelt brought the US into World War 2. Since Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, the U.S. got into the war sooner because before they attacked, the U.S. didn't really have a reason to fight. Because of this, World War 2 ended much sooner then it would have if had gotten into the war later.
What happened as a result? Global Influence 9/11 As a result of 9/11, President Bush declared a global war on terrorism. Because this happened, a lot of countries have agreed with Bush and have also started preaching anti-terrorism.
Who did it to the U.S. and why: Pearl Harbor The Japanese fleet are to blame for Pearl Harbor. In the early morning of December 7, 1941 350 Japanese aircrafts were launched at the U.S. fleet. The U.S. stopped exporting to Japan because they kept advancing, but they didn't so we cut them off. Japan knew that only the American fleet could stop them so they wanted to make sure that the U.S. fleet could not stop them.
Who did it to the U.S. and why: 9/11 al-Qa`ida members did this to the U.S., because their leader Osama Bin Laden sent out an edict that called for Muslims to kill Americans. He thought of the idea to kidnap airliners and crash them into major American buildings and kill many people.
Location Pearl Harbor Pearl Harbor was located on the southern coast of Oahu
Location 9/11 There were four airliners that were kidnapped and crashed into different places. Two were into the Twin Towers at the world trade center in New York City.
There were many people that died as results from these attacks, but they helped the US despite the consequences. As a result of Pearl Harbor, World War II ended much sooner then it would have if we got into the war later. For 9/11, there was a global war on terrorism launched. Even though these days will forever live in infamy, they will also live as two of the most important days in American history.
