1: WHAT? Where I'm from My mother's kitchen Mother to daughter Ode to GSMST Language Arts Sign - Thrice Fire & Ice - Robert Frost | PAGE 2 - 3 4 - 5 6 - 7 8 - 9 10 - 11 12 - 15 16 - 19 | TABLE OF CONTENTS

2: I am from a big family, Where everybody knows everything that is going on. I am from strongly held traditions, Rice and noodles, Udon and dry seaweed. Where there’s no such thing as “never too early” And all family members start school at age two. I am from an amenable family, Where doughnuts and ice cream are a given every day. Where nobody cares about education, And it’s only for those with potential. I am from a family with many surprises (good and bad). Where every month we find another person, With an illness slowly killing them, Or with the occasional scholarship to college. | Where

3: I’m from Adam and Eve, Strong religious beliefs and mixed cultures. Where we all gather and pray before a meal, And a sandwich and sushi can be seen at the same time on the table. Where I’m from, everybody knows what’s going on, Even if we don’t know the individual. This is a family where we meet people, People we didn’t even know we were related to. I’m from a family with love always in the air. No matter what, everybody cares for one another. A family that cherishes their memories and each other. That’s where I’m from. | I'm from

4: My mother's kitchen | In my mother’s kitchen, My mother is never present. Instead of being my mother’s territory, The kitchen is ruled by my grandmother. As I come home from school, I smell the yummy smell of Kimchee soup mixed with the smell of Freshly cooked rice.

5: I can see my grandmother’s form In front of the sink. Ewww, I smell a dead thing. I think it’s the crab. I look over my grandmother’s shoulder And what do I see?? She’s poking at a dead crab With the tip of her knife. I know I turned green As I looked at the crab guts Spilling out and oozing slowly Onto the metallic sink. Every day I come home to The delicious smells of My grandmother and her amazing cooking. MMMMM. I can’t wait to go home today!

6: All things grow better with love. | Dasom, stop it! Hanuel, stop it! Both of you stop! I don’t want to hear a peep From either of you! I am tired of you two fighting Day in day out! I can’t take anymore! You two are siblings! My only children. I don’t want you fighting When you’re all I have. This isn’t the kind of Family I wanted! Do you two not know the meaning of family? Family is family! | Umma means mom in Korean

7: We should love each other, And cherish one another! You know what family is? Father And Mother I Love You. If you love us both, Why can’t you love each other?? We both love you and Hate doing this. Don’t make us yell and scream. Cause it breaks our hearts To see you cry, Those salty tears streaking your face. Now, hush the both of you. Come here. Lie in umma’s arms. Umma will be here for you. Now and forever.

9: Oh when I first arrive in front of GSMST, I was so shocked to find that it was not as it should be. GSMST so fine, GSMST grand. GSMST’s all right! I actually wanna be here. By the time first semester ended I had many friends. They weren’t all really nerdy, Instead they were like me. GSMST so fine, GSMST grand. GSMST’s all right! I actually wanna be here. Now it is finally second semester, And I am not failing. Most my grades are A’s and B’s But some are really icky. GSMST so fine, GSMST grand. GSMST’S all right! I really really love it!

11: Sigh, It’s time for language arts. That’s my very first class of the day. Poetry is our main topic. That means mushy stuff. Ick! Oh class is over and here comes the rest of the day.

13: I realize the screaming pain Hearing it loud in my brain But I'm going to go straight ahead with the scar It's fine if you forget, it's fine if you can't feel it I've patched up the scrapes in my heart It's okay if I'm hurt, because I no longer feel the pain Even as I drag my feet along I can no longer see The self That made a sound and then collapsed If you just notice the sound of the wind It told me to follow these scars Before I'd be crushed by the weight of the world Can you remember it? The sky of tears... That pain has given you protection Because this pain will always protect you

14: More than the strength of being unhurt, the kindness that cannot hurt Its voice in some ways, seems sad Just like Unbuttoning a button Our hearts and bodies We’re separated Once again, catch your heart... It told me to follow these scars Before I'd be crushed by the weight of the world Can you remember it? The sky of tears... That pain has given you protection Because this pain will always protect you I found it That teary voice There's no mistake It's my own All of it was for this moment... I'm sure that from the beginning, you knew I was the only one who wouldn't leave you again I made you realize, this is a sign for you

19: Some say the world will end in fire, Some say in ice. From what I've tasted of desire I hold with those who favor fire. But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate To say that for destruction ice Is also great And would suffice.
