It starts in the morning Enter the class of writing and reading What shall happen in these two periods of the day? Sit down and await the teacher’s instructions When given, you find it thrilling and challenging Instead of slacking, you get down to it The pencil creates your ideas on paper You penmanship is indeed one to be recognized The bell rings just as you finish Proud of the paper that you worked on Handing it to the teacher, she reviews over it That accursed red pen begins staining your paper That arrow piercing through you with each mark Your heart is thumping as you awkwardly wait for the returning grade Finally, after the long wait, she hands you the paper “You just have a few grammar problems” The page is filled with red marks Just how many is a few?

 Self-Respect Poem

Sometimes I dress nice, sometimes I don’t Sometimes I’ll care, sometimes I won’t Depends on the time, I might even show my morning crankiness It really just depends on how I’m feeling I’m not the average Jersey Shore And I ain’t legally blond But I learned to sleep and not care what you think Because I am who I am I’m not a person with a mask My worth is not determined by your own prejudice judgment No matter what your words won’t affect me I will always be me

Throw the casserole in the oven! Make it nice with greens Add the sauce. This is my mother’s kitchen “Olamide, get rid of that dead bug!” Mom shouts stepping over it. She hops to it And we get it done The casserole’s done They pull it out It smells delicious You’d also want to try some of this Olamide sets the table Keji places the food there They say their grace And enjoy the food It’s time to clean up And it’s up to the last child to do so She cleans up the plates And puts away the leftovers Then she turns to see it The dishes Some were green Some were brown Some still had food on it Some were licked clean Yes, it will be a fun time She thought as she picked up the sponge

 My Mother's Kitchen

It’s a hard-knock life for us Here at GSMST Where there is no fun and games There only is hard work It’s a hard-knock life! Now don’t get me wrong I love GSMST But we do go overboard with work Running from the towers to the west wing Organizing between friends and work Oh how we love GSMST The teachers are funny and amazing Like Mrs. Mullen or Mrs. Glenn Our teachers with the same name Our Mr. Garrison and Dr. Garrison Oh how we love GSMST Our administrator and principal Ms. Hawkins with her crazy socks Her fun personality And she does an amazing job That’s why we love her Dr. Matthews is the best He always keeps us on our toes So we can give Gwinnet some wonderful scores Oh how we love our GSMST Class of 2011 Class of 2012 Class of 2013 Class of 2014 They They were the best
