BC: I LOVE YOU MRS. CAHILL

FC: History of Jamaican Music BY Joey S.

1: Reggae is Jamaica’s quintessential music and has its roots in folk music of the islands. Reggae is equally rooted in the hope instilled by the Rastafarian religion. The Jamaican music or as we know as Reggae history started from 1953-1973 twenty year span. Truly if u have to blame any type of music for starting Reggae up it would have to be Jazz. This type of music got song by slaves, workers, and very talented artist.

2: Edward Seaga who became the Prime Minister of Jamaica in 1958 and began to release records from local artist. Even though some of the songs weren't that great at all they were new and playable on a sound system.

3: And pretty much Reggae blew R&B out of the water like 1960 came around nobody listened to R&B anymore all Reggae. But this is just what Jamaica needed something new for them and now the whole world

4: Jamaican music types are Mento, Ska, Rock steady, Reggae, and Dancehall. Jamaican folk music is probley one of the earliest forms of Jamaican music. The 1950’s was the golden age for Mento music Mento music is a form of Folk with instruments such as acoustic guitar, banjo, hand drums and a rumba box.

5: when he was in a recording session. Witch started new sounds for Jamaican music with high and low notes the drums where taking from traditional Jamaican drums and together these instruments could create the Ska beat. There is another type of Jamaican music I would like to go over and that would be rock steady. Rock steady is said to be way slower then Ska music. Alton Elvis is the guy responsible for Rock steady music but Rock steady only lasted for a sort 2 years cause of the best music of all time to come out Reggae music. This music came out about from 1968 to now and days Reggae is know all over the world cause of Bob Marley and the Rastafarians. Theories about the word Reggae where it came from brings lots of confusion to the people of Jamaica. Also the group The Wailers helped Reggae become famous.
