FC: My Journey to America This book belongs to: Lexi Bonaparte By: Samantha Sullivan

From France to New York it took for ever but I will never forget it, Here is my story of how I immigrated to America.

Bonjour, My name is Lexi Bonaparte and I was six years old when I moved from France to America. Leaving my home, I cried because I had lived there since I was born. I was born in, Clinique Boneffon, a hospital in France that is huge.

I went on a giant ship with my mother and a lot of other people. It was really hard to pack because I was only allowed to bring one bag. When I was on the ship I could barely move, I think people will do anything to get to America though. Almost everybody on the ship slept on the bottom of the boat and went onto the deck of the ship in the morning just to get some fresh air. I stayed very close to my mom because she was the only one I could look to if I needed help. My dad already went to America and my sister, Alexis was not permitted to go until she was six, “ moms orders”, so she stayed back at France with my Gram. The boat trip took forever but it was not hard to know when we got close to America because everybody cheered, when we finally arrived.

But the boat trip was not the hard part, we had to get approved to go to America, so we would have to go to Ellis Island first. When we first arrived at Ellis Island, I was excited but not too excited because I knew I could still get sent back to France and live the life I lived before, which included a lot of work. I know I will have to work here but it might not be as bad, because we have freedom here in America, I was never free to do what I wanted in France. | Luggage | Statue of Liberty

I walked inside the building we had to wait in a very long line. The smell in the room didn't remind me of anything but the look of one room reminded me of my friend, Anastasie. We put our luggage in that room and walked to be inspected by the doctors on the second floor. While I was being checked out and my mom walked to the door, she made it! And then I got the news I was waiting for, so far I am allowed to go to America! I ran to catch up with my mom and we both walked together to be interviewed by the inspector. Our turn finally came to get interviewed and I was nervous. The inspector looked at the ships records to check our names, and ages. After that he made sure that we had a relative to stay with. Finally the inspector told us we could stay in America. | Anastasie

Then the day came that I could meet up with my dad, at the kissing post! Between my mom and me, I was the first one to spot my dad and I immediately ran up to him and hugged him, I think it was one of the best days of my life! Finally my family (my dad, my mom and I) went to retrieve our luggage and went to get ready to get on the boat that took us to New York City. When my family and I got off the boat my dad led us to the car, and said we are going to live in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania. After the three hour drive to Blue Bell I was thrilled because after everything I went through in Ellis Island I finally have a peaceful and quiet town to live in and feel happy every time I wake up in the morning. When my sister turns six, she will come to America with my gram and my family will finally be complete.

I, Lexi am on the left and my friend, Anastasie. We met up 10 years after the immigration to America and we are really good friends. I am 16 and she is 17. Relaxing is great. | ( I found this book recently and I was so excited to write in it. SO I am writing for my last time and this is about my life in America. My family is officially complete because my sister and gram came to America, When I was 9. WE smile every day even though we are sisters.
