Speech To The Young By: Gwendolyn Brooks Say to them, say to the down-keepers, the sun slappers, the self- soilers, the harmony- hushers, "even if you are not ready for day it cannot always be night." You will be right. For that is the hard home-run. Live not for the battles won. LIve not for the-end-of-the-song. Live in the along. | In my life, I have been quiet and to the side at times. Afraid of failure, which now I know comes with everything in life. Needless to say that everyone should just take things in stride.Take chances, live in the moment, and inspire others with their actions. Because sometimes the risk pays off making everything fall into place. Album art by Arcade Fire, Funeral P | 2

Listen to the MUSTN'TS By:Shel Silverstein Listen to the MUSTN'TS, child Listen to the DON'S Listen to the SHOULDN'S The IMPOSSIBLES,the WONT'S Listen to the NEVER HAVES Then listen close to me Anything can happen child, ANYTHING can be. http://farm4.static.flickr.com | Little kids have so much imagination and creativity. I feel as though recently I am getting my dreams back. Thinking that no one and nothing can hold me back, that the impossible is now achievable. With so many people out there that want to share their dampened moods with all the rest of us, many things can be changed into a challenge. Although if many kids followed their dreams our world would be filled with a lot of doctors and astronauts. http://4.bp.blogspot.com | 3

The Round By: Stanly Kunitz Light splashed this morning on the shell-pink anemones swaying on their tall stems down blue-spiked veronica light flowed in rivulets over the humps of the honeybees; this morning I saw light kiss the silk of the roses in their second flowering, my late bloomers flushed with their brandy. A curious gladness shook me. So I have shut the doors of my house so I have trudged downstairs to my cell so I am sitting in semi-dark hunched over my desk with nothing for a view to tempt me but a bloated compost heap, steamy old stinkpile, under my window; and I pick my notebook up and i start to read aloud the still-wet words i scribbled on the blotted page: " Light splashed..." I can scarcely wait till tomorrow when a new life begins for me, as it does each day, as it does each day | Album art by Carolina Liar, Coming to Terms People make numerous mistakes in life. Seeing as how these are all made, it is a great comfort to know that tomorrow is a new day. That the sun will come out and bringing with it another chancre to act how people please. The earthy world also has so many temptations, which people need to learn how to block out. Because most distractions are gross, corrupt, and create bad outcomes. | 4

Running Song By: Marci Ridlon I am running, running, running. I am running just for fun. Through the grass and through the gravel running faster see me travel past the people staring, staring. they are thinking something's wrong. I'm not looking. I'm not caring. I'm just running hard and long. Now my feet are pounding pavement. Now my heart is pounding, too. I can feel the sidewalk searing through the bottom of my shoe. How the wind is whipping past me. How the trees are whizzing by, Rushing rivers run forever. Maybe I can if I try. | I am in track and cross country. This sport is obviously full of tortuous running. Although sometimes running is a great escape, like a book, letting your mind wander and your legs carry you to unknown places. Sometimes it is better to just be your own person. Not caring or noticing the stares or ridicule people thrash out. Album art by Five for Fighting, Chances | 5

A Little Song of LIfe By: Lizette Reese Glad that I live am I; that the sky is blue; Glad for the country lanes, And the fall of dew. After the sun the rain, After the rain the sun; This is the way of life, Till the work be done. All that we need to do, Be low or high, Is to see that we grow Nearer the sky. | Album art by Switchfoot, Hello Hurricane The sky is a wide expanse of blue. To me it is flawless and endless of possibilities. Therefore the closer I am to the sky, makes me that much closer to my dreams. And my dreams, well they defiantly reach to the sky. No matter how down or happy I am, giving up on my dreams is not an option. | 6

No Title By:Kate Greenaway School is over, Oh, what fun! Lessons finished, Play begun. Who'll run the fastest, You or I? Who'll laugh the loudest? Let us try. | I really like the way this poem is written. It is short and sweet, with nice transitions. Summer is the highlight of all school years, for young and older children. During this needed break little kids jump, play, and run around in joy. This poem brought back some childhood memories. http://www.magicnorm.com | 7

Your Guardian Angel (excerpt) By: Red Jumpsuit Apparatus When I see your smile tears run down my face I can't replace And now I am strong I have figured out How this world turn colds and it breaks though my soul And I know deep inside me I can be the one I will never let you fall I'll stand up with you forever I'll be there for you though it all Even if saving you sends me to heaven It's okay , It's okay, It's ok-a-e-a-e-ayyy. And seasons are changing And waves are crashing And stars are falling all for us Days grow longer and nights grow shorter I can show you I'll be the one | http://webcoist.com Few people touch our hearts enough to when it comes down to it we will throw down our lives and anything we have for them. I can think of a few people I would be willing to do this for. This except also reminds me of people trying to prove something or even themselves. Maybe that they are soul mates or simply care. I chose this though mostly because it is one of my favorite songs. http://fc04.deviantart.com | 8

Hope is the thing... By: Emily Dickerson Hope is the thing with feathers That perches in the soul, And sings the tune without the words, And never stops at all, And sweetest in the gale is heard; And sore must be the storm That could abash the little bird That kept so many warm. I've heard it in the chilest land, And on the strangest sea; Yet, never, in extremity, It asked a crumb of me. http://blogs.centrictv.com | Birds can fly and soar above the rest of the world. They are beautiful and sing joyous but at times annoying songs. Yet never do they ask anything of us, except for bird food, which we introduced them to. I can think of many friends that give me hope and joy, but they ask of nothing in return nor expect it. I can only hope I am seen as that to my close friends. http://dark.pozadia.org. | 9

My Honorary Little Sis By: Barbara Stone When i watch you strike your soccer ball up and down the field or When I watch you go crazy dancing like there is no tomorrow thin arms failing like spaghetti youir movements bold and undefined I say when I watch you growing up from chasing boys down neighborhood streets and biking all over town I stand up whenever you need me I stand up photo taken by: Mike Staubus | I have known Olivia Staubus for about nine years. This whole history we share has been full of laughs, sleepovers, and common bonds. I would protect her in any situation and want to keep her out of all harm. The original poem ,that we used to make this one, I like every much mostly for the format. I hope she has a great high school experience. Photo taken by: Marina Staubus | 10

I love Sugar on Pizza By: Barbara Stone Kiwi and tart snowcones are my favorite. I am never full. I actually find running fun. Winter is the worst season. I have grown to like some poetry. High School is not the best years of your life. Mountains and music are my passions. I fly fish and love it. I have no patience. Any remotely sad movie will have me crying. But with most seriously bad things I can not shed a tear. My dreams are huge. And I want to achieve all of them. I am absolutely awful at spelling and speeches. Photo taken by: Barbara Stone | I love random poems. Because it is everything you are randomly thinking during those moments of time. Looking back you can remember some of these occurrences that will jog your memory even more. My uncle showed me to put sugar on my pizza, but I also put it on most of tomato based products. I am trucking through life, and I am trying to make the most of it. http://seraphic.files.wordpress.com | 11
