FC: Under My Skin Ashley Bryan

Hidden Flame I feed a flame within, which so torments me That it both pains my heart, and yet contains me 'Tis such a pleasing smart, and I so love it, That I'd rather die than once remove it. Yet he, for whom I grieve, shall never know it; My tounge does not betray, nor my eyes show it Not a sigh, nor a tear, my pain discloses, But they fall silently, like dew on roses. Thus, to prevent my Love from being cruel, My heart's the sacrifice, a 'tis the feul; And while I suffer this to give him quiet, My faith rewards my love, though he deny it. On his eyes will I gaze, and there delight me; While I conceal my love no frown can fright me. To be more happy I dare not aspire, Nor can I fall more low, mounting no higher. John Dryden

Can you? Can you see my thoughts? Can you see what I believe? If you look into my eyes, Can you see my pain? Can you look into my eyes? Do you see anything? Pain, Sadness, Madness? Can you see me? Can you see me at all, or do you just hear me, a voice in the wind? Can you see me? Can you see my pain? Can you hear me? Do I even exist at all? Ashley Bryan

School It starts with ABC's and 123's, naptime and recess. It moves on to Shortstories and Longdivision, lunchtime and recess. It moves on to Anthologies and Hyperbola's, bells and crowded hallways. It ends with one short walk across the stage, graduation and diplomas. Ashley Bryan

TWO We come out full of hopes we give it all we've got and still its not enough. Up there in the balcony there is someone pulling strings critizing our work. As the last note is played with good tone and defiance they pass their judgement. We get up and walk away they pull out their pens and condem us. The Battle is over our hopes are crushed but we will be back and we will win. ~Stanza

Glitter My mother gave me a ring she told me not to lose it. I wore it everywhere I went I wore it with pride. She told me not to lose it. People all around exclaimed over it everyone would stare. She told me not to lose it. I would hold my hand out in the sunlight just to see it glitter. She told me not to lose it. One day I looked down to see the glitter and saw only my skin. She told me not to lose it. I looked all around searched up and down. She told me not to lose it. Finally after I had looked everywhere I admitted I had lost the ring. She told me not to lose it. I told my mother that I had lost the ring she shook her head in disappointment. She told me not to lose it. Ten years later I moved to my new home I was packing boxes looking at old treasures She told me not to lose it. I found a box from years ago I lifted up the top and saw a familiar glitter. She told me not to lose it. The ring I had lost so long ago the one she told me not to lose I had finally found. ~Refrain

Found Poem When I was a young boy, I tried to kill my pain But bought only more. I created my paradise, Where the wind will whisper to me, Where the raindrops as they’re falling tell a story, A world that sends you reeling. I defeated them, My demons and all the non-believers I became the savior of the broken, the beaten, and the damned. They fight all the time I’m just a man, not a hero I lay dying Immobilized by my fears And soon to be blinded by tears Swallowed up in the sound of my screaming Falling apart, and all that I’m asking Is it a crime, am I overreacting Take away my pain And I’ll leave you a phantom It’ll be my tears you taste Or will you forget me? The Braids have been untied Ribbons fall away It ends here tonight Leave the consequence The world will end in fire and be destructed by ice.

Welcome to the Black Parade~ My Chemical Romance When I was a young boy, my Father took me into the city to see a marching band. He said "Son when you grow up will you be the savior of the broken, the beaten, and the damned?" He said "Will you defeat them, your demons and all the non-believers, the plans that they have made? Because one day I'll leave you a phantom to lead you in the summer, to join the black parade." When I was a young boy, my Father took me into the city to see a marching band. He said "Son when you grow up will you be the savior of the broken, the beaten, and the damned?" Sometimes I get the feeling she's watching over me. And other times I feel like I should go. When through it all, the rise and fall, the bodies' in the streets, and when you're gone we want you all to know. We'll Carry on, We'll Carry on, and though you said you dont believe me Your memory will carry on, we'll carry on, and thought my heart I can't contain it, the anthem won't explain it. A world that sends you reeling from decimated dreams. Your misery and hate will kill us all. So paint it black and take it back, lets shout it loud and clear. Do you fight it to the end?, we hear the call to carry on. We'll carry on, and though your dead and gone believe me Your memory will carry on. we'll carry on and though you're broken and defeated, your weary widow marches... ...on and on we carry through the fears. ooh oh ohhhh Disappointed faces of your peers. ooh oh ohhhh take a look at me, cause I could not care at all--- Do or die, you'll never make me. Because the world, will never take my (heart). You can try, you'll never break me. 8: Tourniquet~ Evanescence I tried to kill the pain But only bought more. I lay dying And I’m pouring crimson regret and betrayal I’m dying praying bleeding and screaming Am I too lost to be saved Am I too lost? My god my tourniquet Return to me salvation My god my tourniquet Return to me salvation Do you remember me Lost for so long Will you be on the other side Or will you forget me I’m dying praying bleeding and screaming Am I too lost to be saved Am I too lost? My god my tourniquet Return to me salvation My god my tourniquet Return to me salvation My wounds cry for the grave My soul cries for deliverance Will I be denied Christ Tourniquet My suicide.

Imaginary~ Evanescence I linger in the doorway Of alarm clock screaming Monsters calling my name Let me stay Where the wind will whisper to me Where the raindrops As their falling tell a story In my field of paper flowers And candy clouds of lullaby I lie inside myself for hours And watch my purple sky fly over me Don’t say I’m out of touch With this rampant chaos- your reality I know well what lies beyond my sleeping refuge The nightmare I built my own world to escape In my field of paper flowers And candy clouds of lullaby I lie inside for hours And watch my purple sky fly over me Swallowed up in the sound of my screaming Cannot cease for the fear of silent nights Oh how I long for the deep sleep dreaming The goddess of imaginary light.

Whisper~ Evanescence Catch me as I fall Say you’re here and it’s all over now Speaking to the atmosphere No one’s here and I fall into myself This truth drives me into madness I know I can stop the pain if I will it all away Don’t turn away Don’t give in to the pain Don’t try to hide Though they’re screaming your name Don’t close your eyes God knows what lies behind them Don’t turn out the light Never sleep never die I’m frightened by what I see But somehow I know that there’s much more to come Immobilized by my fear And soon to be blinded by tears I can stop the pain if I will it all away Don’t turn away Don’t give into the pain Don’t try to hide Though they’re screaming your name Don’t close you eyes Though they’re screaming your name Don’t turn out the light Never sleep never die Fallen angels at my feet Whispered voices Death before my eyes Lying next to me I fear She beckons me shall I give in Upon my end shall I begin Forsaking all I’ve for I rise to meet the end.

Lost On the threshold both my demons and salvation scream for me. But I slam the door I will allow nothing to break my defenses. I hear a knocking at the door but I do not answer, for I fear, I fear what's at the door I fear what it is and what it would mean to me. The knocking continues steady and persistant never stopping, I hear it, I hear what it wants I hear its steady call. The knocking stops and the key turns the door is pushed inside everything rushes in and I am lost. lost to its needs, lost to its demands lost to the thing I fear most. ~Ashley Bryan

Poker Poetry Time and reality whisper to a woman to reconcile with her past. Where the gloom of her romantic trap and ungraceful crash thrives. Sadly she imagines the bright bold devotion that should of been hers. The soft golden tangy scheme devised to make her quiver with unadulturated passion.

Fire and Ice Some say the world will end in Fire, Some say in Ice. From what I've tasted of desire I hold with those who favor fire. But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate To say that for destuction ice Is also great and would suffice Robert Frost

The Coming of Wisdom with Time Though leaves are many, the root is one; Through all the lying days of my youth I swayed my leaves and flowers in the sun; Now I may wither into the truth. ~Yeats

Yeats (1865-1939), was a native born Irishman but his family was one of those who supported the sweeping reform and change. But Yeats had an identity crisis he did not know where he belonged in the world; much of his confusion would find its way into his early poetry. He also lived in the time when Ireland was gaining its independence as a free state; his poetry reflected the feelings of the people. Yeats had been known as a rouge and had had many affaires; he was married and had children, his wife would look over these past escapades and remember him only with how he treated her and his family. Yeats won the Nobel Prize for literature and his book sales soared soon he had enough money to pay off both his and his fathers debts. He was considered a Symbolist poet; he would choose words and phrases so that they gave a specific meaning but could also suggest a deeper meaning.

Skin~ Alexz Johnson I drift away to a place Another kind of life Take away the pain I create my paradise Everything I’ve held Has hit the wall What used to be yours Isn’t yours at all Falling apart, and all that I’m asking Is a crime, am I overreacting Oh, he’s under my skin Just give me something to get rid of him I’ve got a reason now to bury this alive Another little white lie So what you had didn’t fit Among the pretty things But never fear, never fear I now know where you’ve been Braids have been un-tied Ribbons fall away | Leave the consequence My tears you’ll taste Falling apart and all that I question Is this a dream or is this my lesson Oh, he’s under my skin Just give me something to get rid of him I’ve got a reason now to bury this alive Another little white lie I don’t believe I’ll be alright I don’t believe I’ll be ok I don’t believe how you throw me away I do believe you didn’t try I do blame you for every lie When I look in your eyes, I don’t see mine Oh, he’s under my skin Just give me something to get rid of him I’ve got a reason now to bury this alive Another little white lie Oh, my permission to sin You might have started my reckoning I’ve got a reason now to bury him alive Another little white lie.

Alexzandra Spencer Johnson (1986-?) is a Canadian actress and singer/songwriter known for her roles in Final Destination 3 and So Weird, and for playing the lead role of Jude Harrison in the hit teen drama series Instant Star where her performances have twice been nominated for a Gemini Award (Canadian equivalent of an Emmy Award). She started singing lessons when she was 10 years old (including opera) and is said to have today a 4 octave range. She co-writes her songs with her brother Brendan, who writes and produces music. She is currently working on her solo album which she hopes to complete by the end of March 2008, and is looking forward to doing a live tour.

In the Poem “The Coming of Wisdom with Time” and the song “Skin” there is many similarities. In the poem Yeats is talking about time making a person wiser, he talks of his days as a child almost like spring and once summer comes the petals wilt, like in real life once a person grows up and gains this knowledge then there is no going back. He loses his youth and innocence. While in “Skin” she has lost her boyfriend and she’s expounding on her pain because this song was part of the teen drama series Instant Star. In the story the girl is cheating on her boyfriend and everyone finds out and shuns her. This song is about her loss and how it makes her feel. Both the poem and song are about loss whether its youthful innocence or love they still felt compelled to write these pieces to express that.

I chose “The Coming of Wisdom with Time” because I have always been a fan of Yeats and this poem has always spoken to me. Espcially with me having gone through that stage when you lose your childish innocence. I chose “Skin” because this is probably my all time favorite song; it’s even my song on Myspace! I love the lyrics and the feelings that this song gives me and I absolutely love the music to this, its like waves of pain and loss that are constantly hitting her.

Sleep The evening hangs beneath the moon A silver thread on darkened dune With closing eyes and resting head I know that sleep is coming soon Upon my pillow, safe in bed A thousand pictures fill my head I cannot sleep my minds a flight And yet my limbs seem made of lead If there are noises in the night A frightening shadow, flickering light Then I surrender unto sleep Where clouds of dreams give second sight What dreams may come both dark and deep Of flying wings and soaring leap As I surrender unto sleep Charles Anthony

In that last dance In that last dance of chances I shall partner you no more. I shall watch another turn you As you move across the floor. In that last dance of chances When I bid your life goodbye I will hope she treats you kindly. I will hope you learn to fly. In that last dance of chances When I know you'll not be mine I will let you go with longing And the hope that you'll be fine. In that last dance of chances We shall know each other's minds. We shall part with our regrets When the tie no longer binds. ~Fools Fate by Robin Hobb
