S: Inca Collapse

BC: By Jocelyn Blackburn

FC: Inca Collapse

1: Hi, My name is Nayra, which means the ancient can be seen. I live in an Inca village at the foothills of the Andes Mountains. I was tending to the llamas when i saw a small army of weird men riding towards our village. I ran from the fields to my house. The men were just coming into our village as I arrived. They were white men that rode strange alien animals.

2: We fed these unusual men on the alien like animals and treated them as guests. My mother told me that I must go to Cuzco, the capital, and tell the emperor about the small army of men. I quickly packed some food and i was off.

3: Atahualpa, our new emperor, decided to welcome these, weird men. He would invite them to a party and decide if they were the rumored thunder god. The Emperor planed to kill and enslave these men. After all, there was only about 150 men. What could they possible do to defeat the mighty Inca?

4: The Spanish attacked this morning at their party. They wore solid hats and fought with shiny hard sticks. The worst weapon though was a machine that boomed and rang. The ground Rumbled for miles all around and the shrieks and blood filled the air. The Inca's were unarmed mostly, under Atahualpa's command.

5: I ran and hid in a pile of rumble from a collapsed wall. The Leader, Francisco Pizarro, captured Atahualpa. People were dying left and right. I was so scared. The creatures they rode on were trampling bodies, the machines shooting and booming, and those silver sticks slashing and gashing.

6: As soon as I coulI rushed back to my village. It was burnt and deserted. I was alone. I went on to other villages. I found my elder brother, Ikan, and his family. His son had a strange disease. The boy was sweaty hot and covered in bumps.

7: But that wasn't the only problem. Pizarro wanted 5 tons of gold in ransom. Every gold item big or small was given to be melted down into giant bars of gold. Pizarro promised Atahualpa's freedom in return.

8: Ikan's son died, along with thousands of others with the deadly disease. Atahualpa was murdered anyway. Ikan told me that i must go before I too got the disease. His wife and daughter both came down with it and same with every other villager, except those lucky few.

9: So I left. I traveled to all the villages I could think of. The people there were dead for the invaders or smallpox. I suddenly had an idea. Machu Picchu. It was hard to get there and very solitary, but it was worth a try. I traveled for four days, until... Machu Picchu.!

10: I must have been quite a sight when i walked into the village. I was bruised, cut up, tired, and dirty but finally I found it. Luckily I was excepted. The people knew nothing of what was happening to our empire. They thought that everything was resolved with the civil war ended and Atahualpa on the throne.

11: I am much older now and I tell the surviving Inca about the time the white men attacked. Machu Picchu was the only village to survive... the soldiers didn't find us. The enormous strong and mighty Inca empire was destroyed by only 150 white men. If only Narya meant the future can be seen. Then maybe The Inca could have stopped these men, before they destroyed us with their guns, germs, and steel.
