FC: Suzie's Geography Adventure | By: Madalyn Story and Katie Wilmes

Suzie is a third grader at Woodland Elementary School in Evansville, Indiana.

Her class is going on a field trip to the River Park Center in Owensboro, Kentucky. They are coming to watch a play on the "5 Themes of Geography."

The first theme of geography is location. There are two kinds of location, relative and absolute. The absolute location is where two lines intersect, latitude and longitude. The absolute location of the river park center is 37 degrees, 46 minutes, 35.89 seconds North by 87 degrees, 6 minutes, 33.62 seconds West.

Relative location is what it is located by. The River Park Center is located south of the Ohio River, West of the Blue Bridge that you all crossed over on, and to the West of First Baptist Church.

The second theme of geography is place. Place is the physical and human characteristics of the place.

Some physical characteristics of the downtown Owensboro are the Ohio River, trees, marine animal life, and a humid continental climate. Human characteristics of this area are mainly Christianity and English speaking people.

The third theme of geography is human enviornment interaction. This includes how humans depend on the enviornment, change the enviornment, and adapt to the enviornment.

The enviornment provides basic needs such as food, shelter, and clothing to people. Humans change the enviornment by building houses and schools. Humans adapt to the enviorment by inventing things such as an air conditioner.

The fourth theme of geography is region. Region is how two places are similar or different. We use physical and human characteristics to determine this.

The River Park Center is located in the Ohio Valley Region and in the South.

The fifth and final theme of geography is movement. Movement is how places are connected through transportation, communication, and physical systems.

The River Park Center connected with Indiana through the Blue Bridge, telephone lines and internet. The Ohio River connects to many major waterways and states.

That play was created and preformed by the Theatre Workshop of Owensboro. We hope you enjoyed the play and have a great day on your way back to Evansville!
