1: The book took place during World War II. On the island of Curacao, then because of World War II they get on a boat to Norfolk, Virginia but the ship was torpedoed and Phillip ends up on a raft with Timothy. Then for almost the rest of the book they live on the Cay. | The Setting
2: Phillip is a young boy about the age of eleven. Normal size, with brown hair and green or blue eyes. When the ship was torpedoed something hit him on the head and eventually made him blind.
3: Timothy is a old, black man with grayish hair. He doesn't have many friends and family. Just Phillip, everyone in his family has died. Timothy teaches Phillip everything he needs to know.
4: This book is mainly about a kid going to Norfolk, Virginia with his mom. The ship they were on was torpedoed and something hit the boy on the head. A old black man, Timothy, and a cat rescued him and put him on a raft. A little later, the boy becomes blind. Also, they then found a small cay and lived on that for about 3 or 4 months.
5: Timothy eventually died and Phillip was rescued by Navy men.
