There is a great piece of architecture that hugs the Northern part of Ancient China called The Great wall. The Ancient Chinese Wall was built for many reasons like the Silk Road, war, protection, travel and agriculture. It was one of the safest places to travel because the guards would always be on the lookout for danger, threats or weapons; it was also a good place to travel for safety.
The Great Wall of China is 8851,8 km long. It's 9m high and 5,5m wide. It was used for protection from their northern country Mongolia because it would make sure that it would be separate from the rest of the country.
The Great Wall was sometimes called and compared as a sleeping dragon. From the top it would look like a serpentine shape sleeping on the top of the Chinese mountains. The Great Wall has been in the world for more than a 100 years and it will keep on living on ancient China’s mountains. It will separate everything from the rest when it holds a strong, intelligent, country and shows their independence from this mighty piece of architecture. The wall was used as a strategy of offense to make China look bigger on the northern border.
When there would be an attack in Ancient China the Chinese would have a code to communicate. Great Wall was the place where there would be the alerts. During the night they would use fire, during the day they would use smoke. A certain amount of smoke or fire meant different things. There would be different codes to tell how many soldiers were going to attack.
The Great Wall was built according to the principles of Feng shui. They would make sure the wall was not cutting between the veins because if a vein was cut then that would cause many terrible tragedies like floods, earthquakes, and terrible forest fires.
When building near a mountain they were able to explode rocks and use them during construction, they used that technique near desserts, rivers, and mountains. Towers were built using wood and handmade sun-baked bricks. The main reason they built the wall was because they wanted to protect China from invaders. They built it near agricultural villages, for safety, so that the aggressive “neighbors” would get scared and stay away from China. The wall also worked as a dividing line for the Ming during the Ming dynasty. Even though the wall was built years ago, the material was so solid that it could even last until today.
Meng Tien established supply lines, ways to get supplies to the wall. When the wall was being constructed in areas with no bamboo or wood available, supplies were needed. He kept southern supply routes open, but it was dangerous. Supply carts would move slowly and it was the perfect target for bandits and invaders to attack.
Some facts Wall was renovated and modernized several times. The Great Wall of China is the longest and the most popular wall in the world. The peasants who died working were buried inside the wall. There are 20 000 watchtowers. Many people think that it can be seen from the moon, but it is wrong.
