8: Now look at the small cartoon. The Gupta Empire began when a young warrior united the north. He took the name Chandragupta 1, and then set up the Gupta Dynasty. The Gupta Empire lasted from A.D. 320 to A.D. 535, though some Gupta rulers kept on ruling Magadha until A.D. 720.

9: Chandragupta 1

10: Before the decline of the empire, some other strong leaders (Chadgupta's son and grandson, Samudra Gupta and Chandra Gupta II) expanded the empire westward. After these the empire suffered invasions and declined.
