1: Meredith Fife 11/2/10 Mrs.Crew 5th hour

2: John Steinbeck John was born in Salinas, California, in 1902,he grew up only miles from the Pacific Ocean.He attended Standford University in 1919 where he was enrolled in literature and writing, but he left without a degree. He died in 1968, only 6 years after winning a Nobel Prize. Along with The Pearl, he wrote East of Eden, The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights, and countless others.

4: La Paz, Mexico. In 1548, Spanish settlers founded La Paz on Choqueyapu, an ancient Aymara village. Its original name was Nuestra Senora de La Paz (Our Lady of Peace) . La Paz was mainly a commercial city along the gold and silver route to the coast.

6: Kino is the the "husband" of Juana and the father of Coyotito. | Juana is the mother of Coyotito and the "wife" of Kino. Coyotito is there only son.

7: The Doctor was wealthy and fat. He thought of Kino's people as no better then animals.

8: Coyotito, Kino and Juana's young baby, is stung by a scorpion. As Kino and his "wife" go to | the doctor's house they meet his cruel ways. The doctor refuses them service. They leave with Kino's hand as a bloody reminder that they are treated unfairly. | Chapter One:

9: In search of pearls to pay for the services of the doctor, Kino finds an enormous clam. | Inside the clam is the "Pearl of the World". Kino and Juana plan to use this pearl to pay for medicine to treat Coyotito. | Chapter Two:

10: Chapter Three: | News travels fast of Kino's great pearl, but with the news brings greed and desire from the people around him. Unknown to to Kino and his family the people fantasize about the pearl. He suddenly became every man's enemy. The doctor pretends to treat the baby, but really only makes him sick. Kino is attacked during the night, and in his injured state Juana wishes to destroy the pearl.

11: Kino planned to sell his pearl, but was was met with the buyers tricks. They told him the pearl was worthless. | Kino threatens to go to the capital to sell his pearl, and he olans to leave soon. For a second time, Kino is attacked, and again Juana wills him to please destroy the pearl | Chapter Four:

12: Juana took the pearl while Kino slept, and she set off to throw it back to the sea. Kino followed her , and upon finding out what she was doing he beat her. He saw a figure, a man, and attacked. Kino killed the man. Kino and Juana come to find their home burned. They hit in Juan Tomas' house until they fled for the mountains. | Chapter 5:

13: Kino and his family are fleeing to the mountains. While covering their tracks they run into trackers. Kino, long with Juana and Coyotito fled for the caves. Kino set out to kill the man with the rifle when they heard the baby cry, During the fight Kino murdered the men and found his only child dead from a careless bullet. Upon their return home they threw the pearl back into the sea. | Chapter 6:
