FC: The Pearl by John Steinbeck
1: Kayla Jenkins 10-27-09 2nd period Mrs. Crew
2: Setting This story takes place in the 1900's and a city called La Paz, Mexico. The city made of stone has bougainvillea growing in the gardens. The area where the brush houses is located there are many wild animals surrounding the houses.
4: Kino was protective and caring about his family. He was a poor Indian men.
5: Juana was a caring mother. She tried her hardest to keep her family together. She was courageous
6: Coyotito was a sick baby but also a strong fighter.
7: The doctor was very mischievous and deceitful. The doctor was also sneaky and wealthy.
8: Chapter One Summary In chapter one the characters are introduced. Coyotito is bitten by a scorpion and is infected with poison. They go visit the doctor and he is very rude to them.
9: Chapter Two Summary This chapter begins with Kino and Juana leaving the doct0r house. After being humiliated they travel back to the brush houses. Kino decide to go pearl hunting, and he discovers that he has found the pearl of the world. As soon as Kino finds the pearl he notices that Coyotito is beginning to heal.
10: Chapter Three Summary Word begins to spread quickly that Kino has found the pearl of the world. Some people are happy for him and some begin to plot against him. Kino begins to have visions on how the pearl can have an positive affect on his life. Therefore, Kino believes the pearl holds a great future for his family.
11: Chapter Four Summary In this chapter Kino, Juana, and the towns people are headed to the pearl buyers. The pearl buyers try to cheat Kino; so he decides that he will go to the capital. Also in this chapter Kino suffers his first attack. Nevertheless, Kino begin to realize the pearl is evil.
12: Chapter Five Summary In this chapter Kino awakes to discover that Juana has taken his pearl and plan on destroying it. While KIno is walking through the bush line he is attacked. Kino kills his attacker. During the time Kino is being attacked; his house is also being burned down. Kino soon discover that someone has placed a hole in his boat.
13: Later on that evening Kino and Juana decide to go to the mountains; before the town discover what Kino has done.
14: Chapter Six Summary In the beginning of this chapter Kino and his family are headed north to the mountains. Kino is being very skillful, and trying to cover their tracks. Little do Kino know; the trackers are right behind him.
15: Kino and his family spend their night in a cave. The trackers are camped out right below them. Kino later on that night kill two of the trackers. The third tracker mistaken Coyotito cry for a coyote cry, and he kills Coyotito. When Juana and kino returns to the town; they finally decided to throw the pearl back in the ocean.
16: Theme Of Story The theme of this story teaches a valuable lesson. It teaches that everything we think is good, actually is not good at all. Kino thought the pearl would change his life in a positive way, but instead it only made his lie worst. It is important to value what
17: you have in life or it might just slip away. This book has many morals to it. I believe its an great parable
18: Information about the Author. The author of this story is John Steinbeck. John Steinbeck was born in Salinas, California. He wrote many amazing books and short stories. His first short story was Cup of Gold, but Of Mice and Men was his first big success.
19: Steinbeck was best remembered for The Grapes of Wrath. In 1962 John won the Nobel-peace Prize. Sadly John died of a heart attack in New York on December 20, 1968
