FC: The Pearl by John Steinbeck

3: John Steinbeck was born in California in 1902. He grew up in a fertile agricultural valley near the Pacific Coast. He went to Stanford University in 1919, but he left without a degree. He supported himself for the next five years as a journalist in New York City.He worked on his first novel, Cup of Gold, during this time. He got married and moved to Pacific Grove. He continued writing books such as The Long Valley, The Grapes of Wrath, The Sea of Cortez, and The Pearl. He spent his last decades in New York City andSag Harbor with his third wife. He died in 1968, having won a Nobel Prize in 1962.

6: Kino. Husband of Juana, Father of Coyotito, Founder of the pearl
7: Juana. Mother to Coyotito and wife to Kino
8: Coyotito, Son of Kino and Juana.
9: Doctor. Rich man. Lives in the better part of La Paz.
10: Chapter one. In chapter one, we meet Kino, Juana, and Coyotito. Coyotito is Kino and Juana's baby. He gets stung by a scorpion. Kino and Juana take him to see the doctor but have no way to pay him. The doctor lies and says that he is not there.
11: Chapter two. After leaving the doctor, Kino, Juana, and Coyotito go out into the water in Kino's canoe. They are searching for a pearl to pay the doctor with. Kino jumps into the water and collects a lot of muscles. He opens them all and finds a pearl in one.
12: Chapter three. The news about the pearl spread quickly. Everyone wants it. Kino sees great things in the future with the pearl such as: getting married, buying a rifle and a harpoon, and getting Coyotito an education. The priest comes to see the pearl. Kino attacks something that is in his house. Juana realizes that the pearl is bringing nothing but evil.
13: Chapter four. Kino wants to sell the pearl. Juan Thomas, Kino's brother, tells Kino that he thinks he is being cheated by the pearl buyers. People offer Kino thousands of pesos, but he turns all of the offers down. Kino wants to sell the pearl in the capital city. Kino and Juana get attacked on the road. They both are hurt.
14: Chapter five. Juana takes the pearl in the night. She wanted to get rid of it. Kino wakes up and stops her. He is angry and punches and kick Juana. Kino gets attacked on his way back home and kills one of the men. They go back to their house to find it on fire. They leave town. Apollina, Juan Thomas's wife, thinks that Kino and Juana are dead.
15: Chapter six. They leave the city and go north. Kino now sees danger and death in the pearl but lies to Juana and says that he still sees the good things in it. They keep traveling and realize that there are trackers after them. They make fake trails to confuse the trackers. The sleep in a cave and the trackers are near. Kino goes out to kill them in the night but Coyotito yells out. The trackers think it is a coyote and they shoot in the direction of the scream. Coyotito is killed. Kino kills all of the trackers. Kino throws the plearl back into the sea.
