1: Eastern Woodland Indians The Eastern Woodland Indians were settled villagers. The all traded with other tribes. They invented the bow and arrow, which helped them a lot with hunting. They made pottery and they were very skilled at it. These Indians came about 3,000 years ago. The geography of VA changed the way they lived. They hunted to add food to their feasts. They enjoyed turtle.

2: Virginia’s 3 Main Language Groups The three main language groups are the, Algonquian, Iroquoian and Siouan. Although many people call them these names, they are not the real names. Archeologists came up with these names to refer to. All of these languages are similar, but none were written. There were many language groups in Virginia. The Iroquoian group lived in two different places. | In Virginia or Commonwealth, still have 8 recognized tribes, and about 4,000 members. Monacans passed down things and lots of tribal members left at age 13 for better education. Lots of tribes didn’t know who their ancestors where due to the Racial Integrity act. Many tribes thought that they were not being accepted as modern day people and Indians. Another tradition is that the Rappahannock tribe does traditional dances. More tribes still repopulate Shad fish. Now who Indians are is clearer due to being given a strong voice in the government. Now we are recognizing Indians of people of not just the past, but the present and future

4: There were 14,000-21,000 Native Americans part of different tribes. These different tribes only had a small part of land. The Mattaponi land was given to them by the King and Queen of England. These tribes would use their land, and still do for their PowWows's. PopWow's are religious celebrations for the tribes. There is dances and venders. At the vender stands you can purchase Native American goods, such as headpieces and jewlery made out of organic objects. When the dances start, they start with drummers and singers to a beat. Then after that, the dances come out and do traditional dances.
