ddf Air pressure is pulling of the air by gravity toward the earths surface. The air above pushes the air below to the surface of the earth.the higher the altitude goes the air pressure will decrease. When the temp. increases the particals move further away. Jet stream difference in temp, pressure, and density are found along the boundaries between wind zone. Those differences make fast, high altitude winds called Jet streams. These winds move from west to east, in the upper mid-latitude.
TYPES OF AIR MASSES A large body of air that takes on the characteristics of the area over which is formed. If the regions wet and cold then so will the air mass, if dry and hor rhen so will the air mass. There are 6 types of air masses. ARTIC-VERY COLD POLAR-COLD TROPICAL-WARM MARITIME-WET CONTAINTAL-DRY
TYPES OF FRONTS When two air masses with different characteristics collide a front is formed. There are 4 types of fronts. A cold front that is shown on a map with a line and blue triangles that point in the direction of the front. A warm front that is labled with red semicircles that also point in the direction the front is headed. Theres a stationary front the is labled by alternating red and blue segments, this is formed when two air masses meet and stall. Theres a occluded front that occurs when a cold air overtakes a warm front and is labled by purple line with both triangles and semicircles.
PRESSURE SYSTEMS When air rises, air pressure decreases. When air sinks, air pressure increases. Colliding air masses create an air pressure system. There are two main types of air pressure systems such as High and Low pressure. HIGH-PRESSURE SYSTEMS found in the northern hemisphere, cause high air pressure. | LOW-PRESSURE SYSTEMS Are found in the southern hemisphere andcause low pressure
GLOVAL WIND SYSTEMS There are 3 major types of wind system:the trade winds, prevailing westerlies, and polar easterlies
Types of thunderstorms Thunderstorms develop when a cumulus cloud grows into a towering cumuconimbus cloud. There are many types of thunderstorms. 1. air-mass caused by unequal heating of the earths surface, 2. sea-breezw forms in the summer in the coast region 3. mountain forms when air is lifted over a mountain 4.frontal forms as a result of an advancing cold front
TORNADOES A violent storm that causes major damage to property. SAFTY * if you are in a hose move to a predesignated shelter, such as a basement * stay away from windows * get out of cars * do not tru to outdistance a tornado in a car * of you are caught outside or in a car the find a ditch
Tropic Cyclones Some of the most deadlest storms in the world. They are large, rotating, low-pressure storms that form over water. It draws energy from the ocean and the more it gets the faster it goes. Stages 1) a tropical disturbance 2) a tropical depression 3) when the speed hits 65km/p then its a tropical storm 4) at 120km/p its know as a hurricane
HURRICANE SAFETY * TURN THE REFRIGERATOR TO THE MAX COLD SETTING AND OPEN OT ONLY WHEN NECESSARY * TURN OFF ALL UTILITES IF TOLD TO DO * UNPLUG SMALL APPLIANCES * TURN OFF PROPANE TANKS * FILL BATHTUBS AND LARGE CONTAMERS WITH WATER FOR SANITARY PURPOSES
STORM SURGES The strong winds of the hurricanes are a major factor in creating a surge near coastal areas. Are mounds of oceans water driven by hurricane-force winds that wash over land. The highest is 6m above sea level. Cause many floods and damage
