FC: Weather Throughout the Year | By Kelly
This book was created as a sample of what the children in my class would do for their project if they were assigned it. This would be similar to what I would expect from my most advanced students, and would be used as an example when telling the class about what I was expecting from this project. It's main focus is around the season and the weather in each season.
In the fall I have to wear jeans or pants because it is cool outside. I wear long sleeve shirts and a light jacket. I do not have to wear a coat yet, it is not that cold!
In the fall I come to school. The leaves fall off the trees and the weather gets cool. It is colorful outside and I get to play soccer.
In the fall we eat a lot of corn and other vegetables like potatoes because that is when they get ripe. We also eat turkey around thanksgiving and beets too. The food we eat in the fall is different because we eat what is ripe and good.
In the Fall there are a few holidays which include Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Veteran's Day.
In the winter I have to wear warm clothes. These clothes need to be made of something that will not let me get wet. I wear snow boots, my snow suit and my winter gloves.
In the winter the weather is cold and it snows a lot. I get to build snowmen and have to wear lots of clothes when I go outside. School is canceled sometimes.
In the winter because it is cold and snowy outside we eat a lot of warm foods. We eat soups, chili, and we drink a lot of hot cocoa and coffee too. Most everything we eat so we can get warm from being outside in the cold.
The holidays in winter include Christmas, New Year's Eve, and Valentine's Day.
When spring comes around I know school is almost out and its soon going to be summer. Soccer starts back up and the weather warms up again. It is a lot like fall but the opposite. It gets warmer the longer its here because summer is near.
In the spring trees begin to get leaves and flower begin to bloom and grow. Life comes back to Earth as all the animals come back out to play, and calves are born.
Since its nice outside we go out for picnic and enjoy the weather, if its not rainy or too windy. We also begin to use the grill again. I eat a lot of hot dogs and fruits like blueberries and strawberries. I also eat chips and sandwiches on our picnics.
In the spring there is one major holiday that I love, it's Easter! I get to go to Grandma's and hunt easter eggs the Easter Bunny brought there.
In the summer it is hot outside. I wear shorts and t-shirts. I wear my swimsuit too. I get to play outside a lot!
In the summer there is no school and we go on vacation to the beach.
The summer has one holiday the fourth of July! I like watching the fireworks!
Since it is normally hot and sunny outside in the summer we eat a lot of our meals outside. I love summer time because my favorite foods come out! I eat a lot of watermelon and cantaloupe! Since it's hot outside I also talk mom into letting me eat more ICE CREAM!!!
When it's really sunny and hot outside I like to go to the lake at Grandma's or to the pool. My friends and I go to the pool a lot with my family. Swimming cools you off from the sun.
This book was created as if it were done by one of my students, so I have created a lesson plan that is aligned to the Missouri Grade Level Expectations and to the Missouri Show-Me Performance Goals.
The lesson plan that goes along with this book and that is aligned to standards is available through my wiki page at the following url address http://jessicamartin928.pbworks.com/Weather-Throughout-the-Year-MixBook-Lesson-Plan
This project is a total out sixty points for which I have created a rubric. It is based on five categories which are activities for each season, clothing for the seasons, weather for the seasons, creativity, and title.
If you are interested in using this project in a classroom I have built a rubric that is available online at http://jessicamartin928.pbworks.com/Weather-Throughout-the-Year-MixBook-Rubric.
