S: Building the Bolz Shop 2008-2009

FC: Vicco von Voss Furniture Design and Timber Framing, LLC

1: Building the Bolz Shop 2008-2009 by Jacqui von Voss

3: Building a custom wood working shop was a life long dream come true for Vicco von Voss. He first opened the doors to his furniture building and design business, originally called Foxline in honor of his family's crest, in 1995 on Cannon Street in Chestertown, Md. From this modest rental space, Vicco honed his craftsmanship and personal style, which quickly led to his widespread reputation for producing unique and masterful hand made furniture. In early 2007, after learning of the possible sale of the building where his business was located, Vicco was inspired to manifest his ultimate vision of creating a timber frame workshop on his property on Island Creek in Centreville, MD. He would name it the Bolz Shop after his family's property in East Germany.

4: Preliminary design for the shop began in the autumn of 2007. Vicco conveyed his vision to Nicole Flisher, who then drafted the architectural plans. Templates of the each component of the timber frame were then drawn and cut to scale. In early 2008 Vicco began the process of collecting lumbar from various sources- namely local salvaged wood, as well as felled trees from his friend Whit Maroney's property in Pennsylvania. By Summer 2008, the saw mill was running at full capacity, producing the necessary materials to commence building in Fall 2008.
