 About BSF
 About Our Class
BSF and Me I learned about BSF more than ten years ago, but I have not been able to participate in it due to my poor English and frequent travel schedule. Last year when I heard that BSF was to start a Chinese discussion group, I was very excited and came to join the class right away. The very first time when I was in the class, I was immediately captivated by Priscilla's elegant demeanor on stage and her tone of voice. Although I still could not totally understand what was being said in English, her graceful bearing totally captured my attention. I admire her understanding and knowledge of the Scriptures. Her ability to control the atmosphere during the lecture and to facilitate interaction between instructor and students, and her self assertiveness, poise, and her | Julie Hsien
The Best Day of Our Lives | typical American sense of humor makes me feel that she is truly a teacher God-sent, , a sister in the Lord, and an angel! I'm very thankful for the fact that previously it was impossible for me to participate in such a Bible study class because of the language barrier but now because of the love of God, and the understanding from the Body of Christ, which has enabled us to be a part of BSF for which I feel extremely fortunate. I'm so sorry to learn that Priscilla is about to retire because of her mother's health situation. However, I do understand how stressful that could mean to her. It is our prayers that the Lord will sustain, heal, watch over and protect. God's richest blessings!
Liping Tan | BSF was one of the best things that has happened in my life. I know God a little bit more through studying His words, and I know myself a little bit better as well. Now I know who I am, where I come from, and where I'm going. BSF also helped me to find the best way to serve Jesus Christ, my Savior and my Lord--to share what I learned in BSF with sisters in my church. Look how happy we are! Our smiles will last for eternity.
Dear Priscilla, I thank God every time I sit down to listen your teaching. It’s the Christian life you have been living which you so bravely and honestly shared on the stage with us—the journey of joys and sorrows, victories and stumbles, laughs and tears—which led me to start connecting God’s words with my daily life. One of your life experiences I have put to practice is, “Don’t be your husband’s spiritual leader, so stop nagging him go to BSF. You can’t make him go unless God moves his heart to love His words and hunger for them.” Nagging is exactly what I had been doing since I went to BSF in the fall of 2006. It took me more than three years to stop nagging and begin praying. I ask God to open a way to make my husband (Shan) hungry and later I asked Shan if we may start family Bible reading so we could go through the whole Bible before our elder son, Peter, finished high school. This fall, with more than half Bible gone by, he began go to BSF. I guess Shan is starving. Hallelujah! I wasn't that sad when I heard you’re going to leave the teaching position earlier since we have the eternity to catch on. Up there, we won’t have to cook three times a day, won’t have to taking care of ether elderly parents or children, and there will be no language barrier between us. Isn’t that great? I can’t wait! Well, I’m learning to wait patiently down here right now. That’s another lesson I learned from you. Patience is not one of my virtues so I think I will need more time to refine it into my being down here on earth. The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; The Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. (Numbers 6:24-26)
Grumbling is a sin against God. God doesn’t care about your lip gloss; He cares about what is coming out from your mouth. It is your job to love your family, but it is God’s job to change your family. Mothering is the most important job you and I to do. Your job in home will last to eternity if you dedicated to the Lord. | Go to the throne, not the phone! When we start to pray, God starts to work. Don’t strive for happiness, but strive for holiness.
The Bible is a living word. Personal Bible study is never a waste, it is about knowing God. Don’t let the world keep you from reading the Bible! If you don’t do your BSF lesson, you may lose the spiritual blessing. Pray before your lesson. Don’t just look at the verse and write the answer. Let the Holy Spirit to manipulate your mind. | Please remember: GRACE=God’s Riches at Christ’s Expenses JOY=Jesus + Others + You | (All words are quoted from Priscilla's lecture)
BSF and Me Cynthia Young | As I look back on the years I spent in BSF, the following thoughts come to mind. I first started in the late 80's with Margo Luther as my discussion leader. Her warm and compassionate leadership gave me the encouragement to continue with the program. Last year I returned to study Isaiah. BSF has been an encouragement to study the Bible in a disciplined way with a group of Christian sisters. Throughout the years BSF has deepened my faith and strenthened the truth that God is in control and has a plan for my life, even though I may not understand some parts of that plan now. Living the Christian life is a journey of faith and obedience.
Priscilla, thank you for your leadership over the past many years. By your ministry in BSF, many women have been able to study God's word and spread this word to their families and friends. Now you are about to begin a very important ministry in your own family. May God strengthen you as you care for your mother. This will be a very precious time for your family From similar experiences, I know that you will never regret your decision to care for your mother. May God bless you and your family! | Cynthia Young (left) and Yao-Hsin Dawes (right)
Audrey Tsay | I always remember it was end of April in 2005. My husband, the two kids (one was 3 and the other one was just four months old) and I were staying home without any financial resources when we closed our business. In addition to financial stress, our family also faced many difficulties at the time. After three days fasting, somehow someone invited me to the intro day at BSF in May. I was just a Christian of a few years old. Although I came to the States for graduate study and lived here for 11 years by then, the lectures and the notes from BSF were not easy for me. However, it did not take long for me to start falling in love with the structured study of God’s Word on daily basis. In September 2005, my son came to the children program with me. With speech problems, my son surprised me by memorizing the verse right after the first day’s class. When we left BSF and walked to our car in the parking lot, he kept on repeating the verse Genesis 1:1 “God created heavens and the earth” and did it a few times during the week. That was a wow for me. Through the year of study in Genesis, my husband and I both learned that our God is our personal God, who called us out to be His witnesses and to bless our unbelieving families. (My husband joined Men’s Evening Group started in the same year when we were studying Genesis.) Every year at BSF I learn more about Bible and develop a deeper relationship with our Savior through the daily study questions. The questions of six days each week help me establish a habit of daily devotion. I enjoy every minute of being alone with
the Lord through His Word and through prayers. The Scripture, the notes and the lectures speak to me many times when I surrender myself before the Lord. The funny thing is that I always feel so carefree when I am willing to surrender myself and let God’s agenda to be my agenda. I like one of Priscilla’s favorite sayings: “Life is full of choices, and choices show the characters. The Holy Spirit worked through our teaching leader Priscilla to ask me if I make a good choice. Do I let God to be the Lord of my life? Going to BSF on Wednesday mornings is certainly an important part of my life. Many years have gone by, and the help and benefit from attending BSF draw everyone in my family closer to the Lord. My two kids go to Men’s Evening Class with my husband since they entered elementary school. In the years of study at BSF, the kids do not just gain a lot of knowledge about the Bible but also experience the power of life changing from the Holy Spirit and the power of prayers. They love BSF program so much that they would finish up their homework in a timely manner to be able to attend their classes at BSF on Monday nights. I believe now it is not just my wish but also theirs that they would be able to go through all the years at BSF and maybe come back to serve there as graduates. Priscilla always reminded us that BSF is a training institute. May the training our families receive at BSF equips us to serve Him at where He wants us to be. May the Lord continue to bless Priscilla for her faith serving at BSF and at her family. May the Lord's name be exalted and glorified.
Today I Marry My Best Friend | Dear Priscilla, I was so excited when Michelle brought the idea about making you a scratch book, I thank God for giving me this opportunity to share with you. I was in BSF for seven years, the study helped me build up my personal relationship with God, during the seven years, I saw Christ in many lives. The teaching, prayers, sharing, laughing, and tears made my life so full. To me, BSF is the place that my soul can fully rest in Lord. One day in your speech, you were talking about putting the time for Bible study, you said to us "Remember that the world will never let you have time for Bible study". What you said that day, really affected my daily life. Every morning what you said comes to my mind, Instead of doing dishes, laundries, emails, and phone calls, I sit in front of my Bible. | Qing Shue
for so many years, I have my morning time separated from the world, it is the peaceful time only for God and I. Being disciplined by God becomes a joyful part in my life. | Priscilla, thank you for your leadership in BSF. For years, there were so many lives transformed by God through you and the other BSF leaders, now you are leaving BSF, may your life glorify God where ever you are.
Qun Zhao | BSF and Me When I moved to Indianapolis two years ago, I heard about BFS for the very first time. Through the encouragement from some church sisters who love the Lord, I have started participating in BSF every Wednesday morning since December 2009. Besides the daily questions and group discussion, Priscilla's dynamic lectures that were both interesting and thought provoking. I thank God for using His servant to proclaim God's word and living truth with such boldness and enabling numerous people to be built up through those studies.
I myself also strongly feel the presence of God's grace through my participation in the translation of BSF's teaching materials into Chinese as well as volunteering in the children department. How thankful we are for Priscilla's utter dedication to BSF for almost thirty years. Whenever and wherever we are, may God's grace and precepts be with each one of us in our journey of spiritual growth, following Him each step of the way till the day we meet Him face to face. | Qun Zhao, back raw second from right, white and pink sweater
Chaoying Yang | 1. BSF provides my personal Bible study with discipline and a planned schedule, satisfying my hunger and thirst for the Word of God. 2. BSF enhances my understanding of God: His righteousness, His holiness, and His wisdom and love. God has become at once real, awesome, and intimate to me. 3. BSF deepens my understanding of myself, of man's tragic sinfulness, and of the helpless and hopeless condition we are in. We are so minute and insignificant, yet God's love is so great and unfathomable.
 4. BSF helps me to have witnessed God's works and deeds in other Christians' lives knowing that He is the true living God. God's Word is filled with power and the source of hope and strength in our lives. 5. BSF helps me build a personal relationship with God. I deeply appreciate all the coworkers serving BSF, and may God continue to bless this ministry.
A-Z Lessons | A wise person listens to godly advice. Bitter doesn’t make you feel better. Crisis reveals character. Doctrine is God’s teaching in the Bible. Eve affected all people. Focus on God’s word, not the world. Get out religion, go into relationship. Honestly looking for Christ’s return will affect the way you live. If you take Jesus as your Lord, your both feet are on the cross. Justification is the foundation of sanctification. Knowing God is the most important thing in life. Loving other is not an option, it is an obligation. Man’s chief aim is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.
Nothing about God has changed over time. One must receive God’s redemption to avoid God’s retribution. Praising God for His past help gives hope for the future. Quote from Miss Johnson: “We are all literate, but many are biblically illiterate.” Replace fear with faith. Stand to read God’s word brings strong sense of worship. Time spent with God produces life changes. Unity of God’s people and purity of worship protect us from spiritual contamination. Victory is possible after frequent failure because God is faithful. Worry is a lack of faith in God’s care. X was not found in our lesson notes. Your faith and obedience are required to experience Jesus’ perfect rest. Zeal for God comes from a deep, personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Leeman Kuo | Priscilla, I really appreciate your faithful teaching of God's Word in BSF that has helped me to have appointment with God everyday and read God's Word everyday. I still remember that you said we have to go to God first, not to the phone. So I learn that the prayer is the most import thing in my Christian life. May the Lord continue to bless you and your family!
Michelle Li | Growth in BSF I wrote this paragraph for one of my seminary papers last semester: “When I first became a Christian, I was so eager to study the Bible. However, for years I didn't have an overall understanding of the Bible until I came to BSF and began to systematically study it. Through the daily Bible readings, questions, and meditation, I was finally able to dig deep into the Scriptures, tasting its sweetness and delighting in it, much like a bee reaching into the heart of the flower to gather nectar. During my devotional time, I have encountered God, who talks with me face to face, which truly amazes me. In time of distress and difficulty, His words have comforted me; in times of weak faith, His words have given me encouragement; in times of confusion and lack of understanding, His words have opened me up; in times of rebellion and distraction, His words have brought me back onto the right track. Gradually over time, my life has been transformed." My professor gave the feedback, "BSF is a wonderful ministry - Give thanks to God!" Indeed, BSF is all about knowing God and having a personal relationship with Him, and I have much to give thanks for my nine years of study in this wonderful ministry. I am thankful for the solid doctrine that BSF has instilled in me, one that is rooted in the Bible, the Living Word of God, and in Jesus Christ, the only way to God. This intimate knowledge of what I believe has strengthened my Christian faith and helped me discern truth from falsehood in this age.
I am thankful for the spiritual nourishment that BSF provides and for the maturity and growth I’ve witnessed as a result. I am thankful for BSF’s commitment to raising up servant-leaders in God's kingdom and for the three years of leadership training I've received , learning to serve the Lord and others with a humble heart. BSF has taught me many biblical principles applicable to my Christian living. One of them is, “Our job is to point people to Christ.” Over the years, I have been equipped by BSF and empowered by the Holy Spirit to lead others, including my father and my son Nathan, to Jesus Christ. The Gospel is the power of God, and I truly believe that, having witnessed one life-changing story after another. Two years ago, a girl whom I had shared the Gospel with in China wrote me out of the blue. She said: “We met each other in the summer of 2005 in Shanghai. And you told me something about Jesus at that time and gave me a Bible. I am writing this letter to thank you for introducing Jesus to me and I am so delighted that I am now converted and can proudly call myself a Christian. I read the Bible and pray everyday and I find peace in my heart. My life has changed dramatically, and I am grateful to God for all those changes.” | More recently, my dearest friend was diagnosed with an inoperable breast cancer, news that broke my heart when I learned of it early this year. I asked the Holy Spirit to give me courage to bring up the topic of life and death with her. Besides telling her about Jesus who died for our sin but gave us eternal life, I also boldly asked for God’s mercy and healing upon her.
God is faithful, and He answered my persistent prayer before Him. He not only healed her by means of mercy and miracle, He also gave her a new life through Jesus Christ. She has now received Jesus Christ by faith and is living with peace, joy and eternal hope. At last, I am thankful for the special friendship and mentorship that I have with my beloved teaching leader Priscilla. Over the years, she has been my spiritual mother, personal mentor and close friend. Our hearts are tied in the love of Christ. We share our mutual joys, tears, burdens and sorrows. We have enjoyed and understood each other's sense of humor—my funny and silly sharing brought much laughter to her and other leaders, and I liked sitting next to her in the leadership circle. I have learned many life lessons such as being a submissive wife and a godly mother from her living teaching. Many times when I was having difficulty in my personal life or church ministry, she lifted me up with encouraging words and prayer. All those days and memories are so beautiful and unforgettable. Although Priscilla is retiring from BSF, she will never retire from serving the Lord. As she is moving onto a new journey in her life, may God continue to use her life to bless many others. May God bless her and her family abundantly. To God be glory both now and forever! (The testimony was edited by my lovely daughter Cherrica, and the tile was approved by my son Nathan.)
(From left, Dr. Chuck Musfeldt, Martha Sue Batt, Susie Rowan, Alice Riggin) | October 23, 2011 Dear Priscilla: Thank you so much for your faithful Bible teaching in our BSF class. I’ve truly enjoyed your lively teaching and benefited greatly from your clear, concise illustration of the Bible truth. I really appreciate your transparency in sharing your struggles and victories in your personal life, which often are my struggles as well. Although for years, I’ve heard so many great things about BSF from my sister and her husband. I’ve not taken advantage of this opportunity until after my retirement from a very demanding job at the end of 2008. It is my commitment to Lord that I’ll serve Him in mission fields in China after my retirement. He blessed me among countless amazing miracles, to see hundreds of people turning their lives to Jesus right in front of my eyes, and their thirst and eagerness for God’s Word. | Alice
Without appropriate nourishment, these new Christians can easily become casualty of Satan’s deceiving tricks and go astray. I seemed to hear the constant outcry of “Feed me! Feed me!” As I was earnestly searching for the appropriate material to meet the needs of these new Chinese Christians. I came to your BSF class in February, 2009. Immediately I recognized that this Bible study material and the four-fold approach is exactly what are needed in China. Although at the time, it seemed to be piles of impossible hurdles to overcome: the difficult task of translation into Chinese, little hope for the communist government to open doors to BSF, and potential criticism from well-intended fellow Christians for concerns of less than perfect adherence to Bible truth in translation. To meet the “Feed me!” outcry of those baby Chinese Christians seemed to be a far away dream. Priscilla, thank you so much for your unreserved support from the start, and encouragements along the way. I’d like to share with you the following paragraph from a recent letter sent out by Susan Rowan to all the supporters of the Chinese translation project:
“In addition, we’re very excited about the open doors God has given to BSF in the People’s Republic of China. This month we’re training new teaching leaders to open four new classes in China. Two of these classes will be conducted entirely in Mandarin for Chinese citizens in Beijing and will be held in Three Self churches. Please pray with us as the Word of God and the gospel of Jesus Christ is proclaimed in China through BSF classes.” It definitely has come a long way. This weekend I’m flying to Dallas Texas attending the Bible Ministry Exhibition of the Protestant Church in China, an event supported by both Dallas Theological Seminary and BSF International. Delegates of the Religious Council from many Chinese provinces will be there including the President of the Fujian Religious Council. I’m looking forward to discuss with him the opportunities for opening BSF training centers in Fujian. I had to try very hard not to pushing too hard and be real patient in waiting on God’s timing. But, Oh, dear Lord, how exciting! Nothing is accidental under the sovereign God, He has great plans. It is my privilege to get to know you and to learn from you. Now you’re taking a break from Bible teaching in BSF to care for your beloved mother. I trust this is also God’s blessing for your family. What a good example of living out God’s 5th Commandment for your children. Who else can do a better job caring for a mother than her own dear daughter? How blessed it is for a mother to have her own daughter caring for her as she approaches the last stage of her earthly journey! I will miss you very, very much. May God bless you and your family abundantly! Love, Alice
In BSF, we learned 1 person with God is majority. 2 C Correct doctrine is important because it affects the way you live. Corrupt doctrine leads spiritual blindness. 3 elements of saving faith: Content, Confession, Commitment. 4 R Repentance brings forgiveness. Repentance brings blessing. Repentance involves a change of thinking and a change of life. Repentance=Confession + Contrition + Conversion 5 things that God desires God desires reality, not ritual. God desires His people be holy. God desires obedience rather than sacrifice. God desires all people to hear the Gospel. God desires to bless righteous people.
"I think of our many years of shared BSF experiences, He causes me to smile." Priscilla Baker
Priscilla, you are a great missionary to us!
