FC: Ellinwood Eagles Cross Country 2009 - 2012

1: Lyles Lashley became the Ellinwood Eagles Cross Country coach in August. The current coach Jim McMullen suffered a brain aneurysm and was hospitalized. Lyles was asked to coach the team and thus began his High School Cross Country Coaching Career! | August 2009

2: 2009 Schedule Smoky Valley Hesston Stafford Larned Ness City Sterling MCAA League-Hesston 3A Regional-Cimarron | Girls Team: Becky Elsen, Hanna Maddy, Jenna Snell Becca Strecker, Michele Klepper, Paulina Montoya | Boys Team: Conner Birzer, Kyle Blakeslee, Colin Miller, Shawn Troyer, Tim Welch, Brett Lyman

3: Running is 90% Mental, the rest is physical!

5: Girls were Regional Champions at Meade. Jenna went on to win the girls 3A State Cross Country title at Wamego with a time of 15:38.19. 3A All State Cross Country Team---Jenna Snell | Girls were MCAA League Champions!

6: 2010

9: Regional Meet held at Meade. Boys placed 3rd for their first trip to the State meet at Wamego. Pedro-2, Kyle-13, Kale-20, Derek-31, Shawn-37. Girls were Regional Champions for their 2nd trip to the State meet. Jenna placed 1st with Brooke-7, Paulina-9, Michele-13, Becky-17.

10: 2010 2A State Cross Country | "This ain't no Country Club!" | 2A All State Cross Country Team Jenna, Paulina & Pedro

11: Girls were Runner Up to Ness City. Jenna placed 2nd with a time of 16:08.20 Paulina-17, Becky-21, Brooke-23, Michele-25 Boys placed 9th. Pedro was 7th with a time of 17:31.88

16: The Rim Rock Farm Classic is hosted by Lawrence High School & the University of Kansas on the beautiful Rim Rock Farm course designed by Bob Timmons, retired KU XC/Track & Field Coach.

17: There is perhaps no other course in the U.S. as specifically dedicated to the sport of cross country as the Rim Rock Farm course. The meet has grown every year and features the best high school cross country programs from the region.

30: Eagle Boys Capture 2A Title at Wamego Girls Take 2nd for Second Consecutive Yr | Eagle boys win first State title since 1967 with a 31-point victory over Stanton County.

37: The Eagles run to the championship began when Kyle Blakeslee lost a shoe around 200 meters into the race.

38: At the start of the season, the team decided to take on the term "Stotan" to represent their team. This word comes from the Urban Dictionary & is defined as: the most bad-ass person alive; a cross between a stoic & a spartan. | The term was used to describe Australian runner, Herb Elliot, a world record holder in the mile run who dominated his event in the 1960 Olympics. "We are stotans. We run every day, we never complain, and we give it all we got in every race."

40: The teams received a police & firetruck escort into town to the band shell on main street. There was a crowd of community members & students awaiting your arrival to congratulate you all.

47: Barton Lake - Great Bend | Ellinwood boys finished first with 50 pts, ahead of Garden City (68 pts) & Liberal (74 pts.) Other teams who competed at the meet were Great Bend, Hutch Trinity, Salina South, Holcomb & Hays.

51: Pedro won the meet with a personal best, 16:15.3, to remain unbeaten this season. Jenna medaled for her 4th straight year.

58: League Meet - Hoisington The Eagle boys won the MCAA league meet and posted Ellinwood's first ever perfect score. Pedro - 1, Morgan - 2, Kyle B - 3, Kyle O - 4, Derek - 5

59: For the first time in school history, Ellinwood cross country teams won the girls and boys league title on the same day.

61: Ten of the Eagles eleven runners claimed All-Mid-Central Activities Assn honors.

62: 'Regional Runaways' | For the second straight season, both the Ellinwood Eagle girls and boys teams won their regional championship. For the girls, it was their 4th consecutive regional crown.

68: Eagle Boys Capture 2nd Consecutive 2A Title Girls Take Runner-Up 3rd Straight Year

70: State champs again, ranked number one, wire to wire, that's the legacy of the 2012 EHS boys XC team. A season after coming from virtually nowhere to capture the first guys state banner

71: since the 1960s, Now the Eagles will sit on the 2A throne another year following a dominant season that saw them go 104--2, crowned by an 18-pt victory over second place Stanton Co. at the 2A State XC Champtionships.
