1: Introduction This scrapbook is about the topics in Billy Joel's song "We Didn't Start The Fire". I would like to dedicate my scrapbook to Billy Joel and everybody who helped with his song.
2: Peter Pan Peter Pan was released in 1953. It was directed by Clyde Geronimi and Wilfred Jackson The story is based on the play by J.M Barrie. Disney adapted the play for their version of the film. In the Disney version the story is about a girl who is taken by Peter Pan to a place called Neverland. In Neverland kids never grow up. The girl Wendy, Peter, and the Peter’s friends fight against captain hook and his pirates. In the end Wendy has to return to her home in London, England. This film is special because it was the final film that all nine members of Disney’s nine old men worked together on. Michael Jackson stated that peter Pan was his favorite movie ever. Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Mr. Smee, Wendy, and Tinker bell often make appearances in Disneyland attractions, parades, and ice shows. Peter Pan was the 13th Disney animated classic film.
3: Brooklyn dodgers 1955 was an epic year for Brooklyn baseball. Since 1949 New York had dominated baseball. They claimed every World Series title from 1949 to 1956. Except until 1955 Brooklyn hadn’t won one of them. It had been the New York Giants and the New York Yankees who dominated. The Brooklyn Dodgers had 98 wins and 55 losses in the regular season wich is an exceptional record in baseball. Another highlight of the Brooklyn dodger team is that they had Jackie Robinson. Jackie Robinson was the first black baseball player to play in the MLB (major league baseball). During the World Series the dodgers and Yankees played seven games (the World Series is the best of seven games). The Dodgers won the final game 1 to 0. This would be the only World Series title the dodgers would win in their Brooklyn location. Brooklyn would always remember this year because they finally beat their rivals from across the city.
4: James Dean James Dean was born February 8, 1931 in Indiana. James Dean was an accomplished actor with a tragically short career. When Dean was young he moved to California but after the death of his mother he moved back to Indiana to live with his aunt and uncle. After he completed high school he went to California to study to become an actor. He started out doing commercials. In particular he did a soda commercial that got him recognized. In 1951 and 1952 he played in a mixture of TV shows and movies. He was given advice to move to New York and he took it. After a few small jobs that got him d he got a bigger role in the movie East of Eden. He got nominated for an academy award for his performance. After this movie Dean landed many big roles in many major films like Rebel Without a Cause. In 1955 James Dean was driving to California when he crashed on the highway; he was killed instantly. James death made him live forever as a great actor.
5: Disneyland Disneyland was opened in Anaheim California on July 18, 1955. Walt Disney got the idea to do his park from visiting many fairs with merry-go-rounds and rides. All of the fairs he saw were only for one season. He had the idea to do the park in Anaheim (right outside of LA) where the temperatures were moderate all year. The opening day of the park did not go as planned. Disney set up an invitation only opening day but the tickets were easily counterfeited and it ended up that the park was highly over packed. The lines for rides were huge and parents ended up pushing their way through to put their child on a ride. The asphalt had just laid and it was a hot day so many women’s shoes sunk into the ground. The park got such bad reviews that Disney had the press come the next day to see the park. Everyone soon realized how great it was and wanted to come to Disneyland. After the success of Disneyland Disney began to work on Disneyworld in Orlando Florida, wich sadly he never got see finished.
6: Elvis Presley Elvis Presley was born January 8, 1935 in Mississippi. Elvis showed talent for music early on. With his first guitar he won a school talent show at the age of ten. In 1953 he got his first record deal with Sun Studios. In 1954 he had a few big songs but in. In 1954 he recorded his single That’s All Right. After his single Presley began to go on tour. In 1955 Elvis’s career shot up. He got a recording deal with RCA records. One thing in particular Elvis was known for was his style of dancing. Back in 1955 his dancing was extremely provocative. He also started to develop a fan base which would later explode. Also in 1955 Elvis recorded Heartbreak Hotel which would become a number one single. For the rest of Elvis’s life his career would have ups and downs. In 1977 Elvis Presley died of heart failure. It was brought on by drug abuse.
8: Davy crockett Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier was a Disney movie made in 1955. The movie was about the life of Davy Crockett, the Texan who fought for Texan independence. The movie is a combination of the TV stories of Davy Crockett. The stories are Davy Crockett Indian fighter, Davy Crockett Goes To Congress, and Davy Crockett at the Alamo. The movie begins with Davy fighting in the Creek Indian wars then Davy goes to explore the west and then he has to go to congress to defeat a corrupt politician. The final scenes are in the Alamo. The movie doesn’t actually say but we know that Davy Crockett did die in the Alamo. The film did well which led to a lot of merchandise sells. Davy’s “coonskin” caps became very popular among children. The actor who played Davy Crockett got such a good reputation from the film that he got a role in another movie about frontiersman Davy Crockett was a classic film in the 50’s.
10: Albert Einstein Albert Einstein was born on March 15, 1879. Einstein was revered as one of the best scientists who ever lived. He was made famous for his theoretical theories. Einstein was not always thought to be a genius. In his school creativity was not encouraged. Einstein was always asking questions and always wanted to know things. But in his school that was not a good thing. In fact, some of his teachers said Einstein wouldn’t do anything in life. Of course we know Einstein proved them very wrong. One of Einstein’s most known theories is the theory of general relativity. The theory was not accepted by all of the science community at first but it was soon accepted as fact. Einstein began to get many job offers and was speaking at many international conventions. Einstein was always on the road or consumed with his theories of evolution. This led to the end of Einstein’s marriage. Einstein moved to the U.S in 1933 due to the rise of the Nazis in Europe. In The United States Einstein helped with the development of the nuclear bomb which would end the war against Japan. Einstein remained in the states for the rest of+ his life. Einstein died in Princeton, New Jersey in April 1955.
