S: 2008 West Virginia Family Vacation
BC: Made for Mom with much love ~Josh and Mel | 2010
FC: 2008 West Virginia Family Vacation
Everyone was pretty excited about starting the family "Batation," but Jon had some fun before it even started! He met Dan Marino, former Dolphins' quarterback. | Ba-tation!!
 Twas but a humble shanty
It's what's on the inside that counts!
The cabin had 7 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms, a pool table, media room, hot tub, and anything else you might want.
It rained a bit while we were there, but the cabin was so nice, we had fun even when we were confined to the indoors. There were 15 of us total and plenty of room to spare. | The Whole Gang
World's best coffee mugs! | Amazing breakfasts | Getting away from it all...or not
The love of family is one
 of God's greatest blessings.
Fortunately, it was livened up by jokes and Rick's silly tidbits from the hiking pamphlet. | To say that our hike was a bit of a let down was an understatement. The trail was rather mundane.
Finding out the observation platform was nothing more than "a glorified tree stand" overlooking a grassy field, prompted the guys to get a little mischievous and switch the sign to the opposite direction! | In true poetic justice, we later got lost...in spite of having the great Jon Lewis as our guide. =)
 Hiking Trails
 Petting Zoo
 Smoke Hole Caverns
Vacation means taking time to do things you enjoy - having ice cream with the family, visiting local attractions and maybe even climbing a bizarre carving when you come upon it.
 Blackwater Falls
Not too far from the cabin was a waterfall known as Blackwater falls. This was no trickling stream! Thousands upon thousands of gallons of water raged over the waterfall with frightening power. We were all glad we went to see it...in SPITE of the 428 steps to get there and back!
The Seneca Rocks Trail had lots of great spots to explore. Skipping rocks was especially fun...right up until we found a gigantic spider!
It could be argued that this wasn't the safest hike out there, but come on, how much fun would it be if you stayed on the path the whole time? Mel had lots of fun planning an optical illusion, so she'd look like she was climbing up a rather steep cliff. Josh on the other hand, decided to literally climb up the steep cliff, and it was past the point where the sign said 15 people had died since 1971! Now that's crazy.
One day during the trip, the "kids" all went white water rafting. Not everyone was excited to go. In fact some were a bit afraid, but the river guides explained they could chart a course down the river that was less adventuresome or more adventuresome depending on what we wanted. | To accommodate differing preferences, we decided one raft would take a less dangerous route and the other a more risky route. The guides labeled our rafts accordingly. One was the Safe Raft, the other was the Carnage Raft! ...as it turned out, the names were rather appropriate | Carnage Raft | Safe Raft
1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | Can you guess who's who? | 1. Steve 2. Jon 3. Mel 4. Anna 5. Josh | At one point along the way, we were allowed to climb a boulder and jump off it into the river! Then, we swam back to the boat and went on our way.
Our Guide! | As you can see, life jackets were a must. Not only was this group known as the Carnage Raft, it was also known as "the Cheat River Swim Team."
Jon, saving the ship | Going....Going... | Gone!
Safe Raft: Rick Steve Janelle Anna
Carnage Raft: Grace Jon Mel Josh
 POOL P U Z Z L E S TOYS | INDOOR FUN
 LOUNGING C O L O R I N G JOKING | STORY TELLING
"A happy family is but an earlier heaven." -John Bowring
"To us, family means putting your arms around each other and being there." -Barbara Bush
Josh and Rick informed us this great Hosey talent is not "normal." | A true FOOTball game!
 Moments before collapse | JENGA!
"We do not remember days; | we remember moments." -Cesare Pavese
